Chapter 104: With a Position Comes Responsibility (Power Stone Milestone Extra - 1/2)
The video continued playing.
Tiana stood inside her room at the Pokémon Center. The League announcement was still playing repeatedly on the television, but she could no longer hear a single word.
"...Daddy is there."
She grabbed the Poké Ball from the table, turned around, and rushed toward the door.
"Salamence, come out!"
Salamence was still yawning when it emerged from its Poké Ball. However, the moment it sensed something unusual in Tiana’s voice, it immediately lowered its head without hesitation and allowed her to climb onto its back.
"Go to Mount Coronet. Hurry!"
Salamence spread its blood-red wings and left a dark-crimson trail through the night sky as it flew north.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Dawn]: Tiana is going there right now?! Mount Coronet is currently a restricted area!
[Gary]: To her, a restricted area is probably little more than a notification. Remember what happened at the League headquarters? She didn’t care about the League’s restrictions then either.
[Iris]: Besides, Tiana saw her father at Mount Coronet. There’s no possible way she wouldn’t go.
[Cynthia]: I would go too.
[Diantha]: Genetics truly can be terrifying.
[Professor Carolina]: When family is involved, there’s no room left for hesitation. She really is exactly like Cynthia in that regard.
[Cynthia]: ...
The video continued playing.
At the outer boundary of Mount Coronet’s League-controlled zone—
A security cordon had already been established around the temporary restricted area.
Several League employees and police officers were stationed beside the barricades when they suddenly heard something tearing through the air above them.
One of the employees instinctively reached for the Poké Ball at his waist.
"Who’s there?!"
The next instant, Salamence plunged from the clouds and stopped abruptly in midair less than two meters from the security cordon.
"The Mount Coronet area has been designated as a temporary restricted zone."
Officer Jenny held down her hat and prepared to follow procedure by stopping the unexpected visitor. However, she then saw a black-haired girl with mismatched eyes jump down from Salamence’s back.
The wind had left Tiana’s hair in complete disarray, but her gaze remained exceptionally determined.
"Officer Jenny, my daddy is inside."
"Your father?"
Officer Jenny froze before examining Tiana more carefully.
A golden streak within her black hair and those mismatched eyes...
Wasn’t she the girl whom the League had instructed them to treat with special attention?
"Are you Tiana?"
"Yes."
Tiana nodded.
"My mommy is Cynthia, and my daddy is Asher."
Officer Jenny took out her radio and quietly exchanged several words with someone.
After ending the call, she turned toward the officers beside her.
"Move aside."
The nearby officer froze.
"Ma’am, but what’s inside—"
"I said let her through."
Everyone stepped aside and opened a path.
Tiana climbed onto Salamence’s back again, and Salamence spread its wings before flying toward the mountain’s summit.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Flint]: A League-restricted zone, yet they let her through immediately. She receives more special treatment than we Elite Four do.
[Lucian]: That’s understandable. Didn’t a previous video reveal Tiana’s file? Her clearance level within the League system is indeed higher than ours.
[Aaron]: So there was a reason she could swagger around the League headquarters however she pleased as a child.
The video continued playing.
As they drew closer, Mount Coronet’s silhouette became increasingly clear beneath the night sky.
Some unknown force had torn apart the clouds above the summit, creating an enormous vortex. Interwoven blue and pink light spilled from its center.
Something indescribable brushed lightly across the surface of Tiana’s skin, as though time itself were breathing.
The closer they came to Mount Coronet’s central region, the more obvious the signs of temporal distortion became.
On a tree beside the path, a leaf changed from green to withered yellow at a visibly accelerated rate before returning to fresh green once more.
The transformation repeated endlessly like a damaged recording trapped in a loop.
Tiana looked down at the flickering scenes below, and her pupils suddenly contracted.
She could feel something—extremely faint, but undeniably present.
It wasn’t a sound.
It wasn’t an image.
It was a pull.
It felt like two extraordinarily thin threads.
One was as cold as a current running through the depths of the ocean, while the other was as warm as magma beneath the earth’s crust.
Both extended from the center of the vortex, passed through layer after layer of space-time turbulence, and connected precisely to the center of her chest.
Tiana pressed a hand against her chest, her breathing stopping for a fraction of a second.
Ripples simultaneously appeared within her mismatched eyes.
The gold in her left eye grew brighter, while the purple in her right eye deepened.
Dialga.
Palkia.
They were calling her.
Not through sound, but through the passage of time and the folding of space.
Every temporal loop and every shift in spatial coordinates was an attempt to break through some kind of barrier and send a signal to the outside world.
"Salamence, head in that direction."
Salamence landed on a protruding platform of stone.
Tiana slid from its back and gently touched the side of its neck.
"Thank you. Rest here for a while."
She then raised her head and looked toward the center of the vortex.
The intertwined blue and pink light reflected as countless tiny sparks within her eyes.
The pulling sensation became even stronger.
Dialga and Palkia were there, within the deepest part of the vortex, restrained by something.
Tiana took a deep breath and prepared to step forward.
A hand came down on her shoulder from behind.
"Tiana."
Tiana stopped before turning around.
Asher stood behind her.
His black hair was slightly messier than usual, but his golden eyes remained calm.
Tiana first examined him from head to toe. After confirming that there were no obvious injuries on his body, she reached out and tightly gripped his sleeve.
"Daddy, why didn’t you tell me?"
"Tell you what?"
"This."
Tiana pointed toward the space-time rift in the sky.
"You already knew it would become like this, didn’t you? You’re here all alone. What would happen if something went wrong?"
"Tiana, Daddy isn’t alone. Dragonite is watching from above. If there’s any danger, it will immediately carry me away."
Dragonite poked its head out from the air above them and called down toward her.
Tiana didn’t release his sleeve.
"That still isn’t acceptable."
"You little troublemaker."
Asher shook his head. His voice was filled with helplessness, but the corner of his mouth curved slightly upward.
"You haven’t even been traveling for a few months, and you already want to start controlling your old man?"
Tiana shook her head.
"Daddy, there’s something I want to tell you."
"Hmm?"
"You and Mommy have always protected me and protected this world."
Tiana’s voice was quiet.
"But no one ever considers that you and Mommy might encounter danger too."
"If both of you are in danger—if that space-time rift is going to swallow this world—I can’t stand behind you and simply watch."
Asher paused before reaching out and gently rubbing her head.
"When you hold an important position, you must fulfill its duties and shoulder its responsibilities. Your mother and I both hold important positions within the League."
"You’re still only a child. Matters like this should be left to the adults."
"But I’m not an ordinary child."
Tiana raised her head. Her golden and purple eyes glowed faintly.
"I’ve known that ever since the day I was born."
Asher looked into Tiana’s eyes and remained silent for a moment.
He knew that every word she had spoken was correct.
She wasn’t an ordinary child.
She never had been.
But he was her father.
"The time hasn’t come yet."
Asher rested his hand on Tiana’s shoulder.
"If you enter now, the space-time turbulence will tear you apart. But..."
He paused, and the corner of his mouth rose slightly.
"When the proper time comes, you will be the only person capable of resolving this crisis."
Tiana’s mismatched eyes lit up.
"Really?"
"Really."
Asher ruffled her hair.
"When have I ever lied to you?"
"The Kricketune Man."
Asher’s smile froze on his face.
"...Can we stop bringing that up?"
"Okay."
[Regular-Seat Chat Group]
"When Tiana said, ’You and Mommy can get hurt too,’ I immediately burst into tears! This child is only ten years old!"
"’No one ever considers that Mom and Dad might get hurt too.’ That is the most emotionally devastating line in this entire series so far."
"Asher’s expression after hearing that... He probably never imagined his daughter would ever say something like that to him."
[VIP Chat Group]
[Elesa]: "I’ve known since the day I was born that I’m not an ordinary child." So Tiana has always understood her own destiny. She isn’t passively accepting it—she is actively choosing to shoulder it.
[Lorelei]: That degree of self-awareness in a ten-year-old is an unnatural level of maturity. However, considering the environment in which she was raised, it isn’t entirely incomprehensible.
[Norman]: Parents protecting their children is instinct. A child wanting to protect her parents is a form of maturity far beyond her age.
[Steven]: @Asher, aren’t you going to come out and say something about this?
[Wallace]: What? Is he still playing dead?!
[Daisy]: @Misty, where is my brother-in-law?
[Misty]: Uh... He still hasn’t woken up.
[Iris]: ??? I’m crying my eyes out, yet he’s actually asleep?!
[Brock]: And he’s still sleeping. That truly is impressive!
[Leon]: What an incredible performance. Every step has exceeded my expectations!
[Bianca]: (╥﹏╥) We’re all so moved, but he’s actually sleeping?
[Diantha]: Sob... My dear best friend is actually going to fall in love with that kind of man someday...
[Cynthia]: ...
...
TL: Don’t worry about them, Diantha—let’s talk about us instead~
