Chapter 113: Mother–Daughter Battle, Part One (Power Stone Milestone Extra - 1/2)
The video continued playing.
The instant the referee brought down his flag, Tiana and Cynthia threw their Poké Balls simultaneously.
The two balls traced arcs through the air before bursting open in flashes of red light.
Tyranitar raised its head and roared.
The entire battlefield was immediately swallowed by a raging cloud of yellow sand.
The sand descended like an enormous golden curtain, drastically reducing visibility and forcing the spectators to narrow their eyes.
Under Sandstorm, Pokémon that were not Rock, Ground, or Steel types would suffer damage at the end of every turn. The limited visibility would also reduce the accuracy of their moves.
Tiana’s strategy was clear: use the weather to wear down her opponent while making it harder for their attacks to land.
However...
Cynthia’s Garchomp landed on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Once it steadied itself, it bent its knees slightly and lowered its center of gravity, its eyes locking onto Tyranitar.
"As expected, she opened with Garchomp."
Tiana bit her lower lip.
"Then we’ll strike first. Stone Edge!"
Tyranitar slammed both fists into the ground.
The battlefield instantly split apart, and dozens of sharp stone pillars erupted from the cracks, converging upon Garchomp from every direction.
"Garchomp, cut through all of them with Dragon Claw."
Emerald Dragon-type energy surrounded both of Garchomp’s claws.
It rapidly twisted and darted between the stone pillars, its claws flashing through the air.
In less than two seconds, every stone pillar had been reduced to rubble.
Garchomp stood unharmed in the middle of the shattered rocks.
"Earthquake."
Cynthia’s voice remained perfectly calm.
Garchomp stomped heavily on the ground, causing the entire stadium to shake violently.
The earth beneath Tyranitar suddenly split apart.
A powerful shock wave struck it from directly below, making its enormous body stagger as a muffled growl escaped its throat.
The attack was super effective, dealing double damage.
Although Tyranitar had endured the blow, its left knee was trembling slightly.
Tiana bit her lip.
As expected, defeating her mother would not be easy.
"Come back, Tyranitar!"
Tiana raised its Poké Ball.
A flash of red light appeared, and Tyranitar was recalled.
Cynthia remained completely unmoved.

[Alder]: Every move is the optimal response forced out by the opponent, yet each response also forces the opponent to make their next move. Hehe... I can’t remember the last time I participated in a battle this thrilling.
[Lucian]: Cynthia’s battle style has always been renowned for its balance and versatility. Furthermore, Tiana is her daughter. She understands Tiana’s habits in battle better than anyone.
[Bertha]: The reverse is also true. Tiana’s understanding of Cynthia is practically engraved into her bones. Until this battle reaches its conclusion, no one can predict the outcome.
The video continued playing.
Tiana took a deep breath, removed a second Poké Ball from her waist, and threw it with all her strength.
"I’m counting on you, Salamence!"
Salamence spread its blood-red wings and released a deafening roar, its crimson eyes locking onto Garchomp.
"Salamence, use Flamethrower!"
Salamence raised its head and unleashed a scorching pillar of fire from its throat, sending it surging toward Garchomp.
"Garchomp, use Dig."
Garchomp plunged headfirst into the ground.
The flames swept over the surface and struck nothing.
"Salamence, take to the air!"
Salamence beat its wings and soared upward.
The next instant, Garchomp burst from the ground where Salamence had been standing, its Dragon Claw reaching toward the airborne Pokémon.
"Flamethrower!"
A second pillar of fire poured down from above.
Unable to change direction in midair, Garchomp could only cross its claws and endure the attack.
The flames exploded.
The blast pushed Garchomp backward several steps, and smoke continued rising from its claws when it landed.
Tiana clenched her fist.
"Use Flamethrower again!"
"Dig."
Cynthia’s voice remained steady.
Garchomp burrowed underground once more.
With the Sandstorm still raging, it became even more difficult for Tiana to determine Garchomp’s position.
Tiana tightened her fist.
"Salamence, use Dragon Dance!"
Salamence twisted through the air, beginning to dance to a strange and ancient rhythm.
"Stone Edge."
Cynthia gave it no opportunity to continue strengthening itself.
Garchomp burst out of the ground as more than a dozen stone pillars erupted directly beneath Salamence and shot toward the sky.
"Dodge!" Tiana shouted.
Still in the middle of its dance, Salamence twisted sideways.
The stone pillars narrowly scraped past the edges of its wings.
"Rock Slide."
Garchomp raised its head again.
Dozens of rocks appeared overhead and came crashing down.
"Destroy them all with Dragon Claw!"
Green Dragon-type energy enveloped both of Salamence’s claws.
It swung them in rapid succession, shattering the falling rocks one after another.
"Flamethrower!"
Tiana seized the brief opening after Garchomp completed its attack.
Salamence opened its mouth, pouring flames down upon the battlefield once more.
Garchomp had no time to evade and was forced to take the attack head-on.
The flames exploded, and the force of the blast pushed it backward several steps.
Garchomp shook the soot from its head and lowered its body once more.
There was no frustration in its dark-red eyes—only an even fiercer desire to battle.
Tiana watched the wounded Garchomp, her own body trembling slightly, but she still refused to give it an opportunity to recover.
"Salamence, use Dragon Rush!"
Salamence beat its wings and rose high into the air.
It twisted its body in midflight as deep-blue Dragon-type energy spread from its chest and enveloped its entire form, transforming it into a blazing meteor that hurtled toward Garchomp.
"Protect."
A pale-green barrier unfolded before Garchomp.
Dragon Rush crashed into it.
The barrier shook violently as rings of shock waves erupted across its surface.
The recoil from Protect threw Salamence backward. It flipped once through the air before regaining its balance.
"Now, Dragon Claw!" Cynthia commanded sharply.
Garchomp moved the instant the protective barrier disappeared.
It was almost too fast to follow.
A dark-blue afterimage flashed across the battlefield as emerald Dragon-type energy surrounded its right claw.
The attack struck Salamence directly in the chest.
Salamence was sent flying backward and crashed heavily into the protective wall at the edge of the battlefield with a dull impact.
"Salamence!"
Concern entered Tiana’s voice.
Salamence slid down the wall, shook its head, and pushed itself upright with its forelegs.
Cynthia watched Salamence rise before raising her Poké Ball.
"Come back, Garchomp."
She recalled Garchomp and immediately threw a second Poké Ball.
A flash of red light appeared.
The Pokémon landed on the battlefield without making a single unnecessary sound.
Its slender body shimmered with a pearlescent rainbow beneath the spotlights, while its fanlike tail fins gently unfolded.
Milotic raised its head toward Salamence in the air and released a soft, lingering cry from deep within its throat.
Tiana quickly regained her focus.
"Salamence, use Dragon Pulse!"
Salamence opened its mouth and launched a wave of violet energy toward Milotic.
"Mirror Coat."
The corner of Cynthia’s mouth curved slightly upward.
A mirrorlike sheen spread across Milotic’s body.
Dragon Pulse struck the reflective barrier and was returned in its entirety.
Tiana’s pupils contracted sharply.
"Salamence, use Protect!"
A pale-green barrier hurriedly unfolded in front of Salamence.
The reflected Dragon Pulse slammed into it and erupted into a ring of force.
Tiana bit her lower lip.
Mirror Coat meant that all of Salamence’s special attacks had effectively been sealed away. It would have to confront Milotic using physical attacks.
Furthermore, Milotic could use Recover to restore its stamina.
A battle of attrition like this would place Salamence at a disadvantage.
Tiana raised her Poké Ball.
"Come back, Salamence!"
Red light flashed, and Salamence returned to its ball.

[Aaron]: When Tiana recalled Tyranitar earlier, I thought she was being overly cautious. But after Salamence entered, she immediately executed two excellent rounds of offense and defense. This child’s control over the overall pace of battle has already surpassed anything that can simply be called "talent."
[Raihan]: The Sandstorm is still raging, though. Milotic will take damage at the end of every turn. Cynthia may have sent Milotic out to fight a battle of attrition, but the Sandstorm is wearing it down as well.
[Leon]: However, Milotic has both Mirror Coat and Recover. That moveset was designed for prolonged battles from the very beginning.
