Chapter 446 - 444: He Regained His Memory
His voice was soft, yet gentle.
A smile touched Celeste Grant’s lips.
"Javier Sinclair, welcome back."
As she spoke, she reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning lightly into his embrace. No words were needed between them; a simple hug was enough to convey everything in their hearts.
Javier Sinclair dipped his head, resting it gently against hers as he stroked her hair. He lowered his voice and murmured, "Celeste, I missed you."
The corners of her lips curved into a smile. "I missed you, too."
They held each other in silence, savoring the warm, peaceful moment. After a while, he finally lifted his head, his gaze falling upon Celeste Grant’s face.
His fingers gently caressed her cheek as he murmured, "I’m sorry. You’ve suffered while I was away."
Celeste Grant shook her head. "I’m fine, and so is our baby."
Hearing her mention the child, Javier Sinclair’s gaze drifted down to her large, swollen belly. One hand remained around her waist, while the other reached out to rest gently on her stomach. Her belly was quite large now, feeling round even through her clothes.
He released her waist and bent his knees, kneeling before Celeste Grant. Now, Javier Sinclair gently wrapped his arms around her, pressing his cheek against her belly.
Celeste Grant blinked, then looked down and chuckled. "What are you doing?"
Javier Sinclair glanced up and whispered, "I’m hugging our daughter. And asking if she’s been a good girl and listening to you."
Hearing this, Celeste Grant placed a hand on his head, stroking his smooth hair. She burst out laughing. "Haha, if she could understand you now, that would be ridiculous."
At her words, Javier Sinclair’s lips curved into a faint smile, but he didn’t speak. Perhaps feeling his embrace, the baby in Celeste Grant’s belly gave a little kick.
"She moved."
"Our daughter must know I’m here."
Celeste Grant rolled her eyes at him, unable to suppress her laughter. "Mhm, sure, whatever you say." ’They say pregnancy makes you an idiot for three years, but I think the father-to-be is the real blockhead right now.’
As she spoke, her gaze swept over the villagers in the distance, who were still kneeling. The hand Celeste Grant had on Javier Sinclair’s head paused for a moment before sliding down to his shoulder.
She patted his shoulder lightly. "Lord God, your loyal fans—oh, I mean, your loyal followers are still kneeling. You should probably have them stand up."
’Those villagers?’ At her words, Javier Sinclair turned his head slightly to look at them in the distance. They currently regarded him as a descended God.
He released Celeste Grant’s waist and stood up.
Javier Sinclair’s gaze swept over the people of the village before finally settling back on Celeste Grant. During this time, the mother of his child had ascended from the Lower Realm and arrived here by chance. It was clear the villagers had treated her extremely well and taken good care of her.
With this in mind, he spoke. "My wife came here some time ago. I am grateful for your care."
The God was thanking them.
’H-How could we possibly be worthy?’
’No, no, we’ve done nothing! On the contrary, our village has only survived because of the God’s continuous favor.’ Overcome with gratitude, they bowed low.
"We are humbled! We have done nothing at all!"
"For a God to descend upon our village is our glory, the honor of three lifetimes!"
"Yes, it is our honor."
Javier Sinclair glanced at them and said flatly, "I am not the God you speak of. Saving this village back then was a casual act. I do not require your worship." As the supreme Umbral Sovereign of the Demonic Domain, the Demon God of the Demon Realm, he had no intention of muscling in on the gods’ territory.
’He doesn’t need their worship?’ Hearing this, the kneeling villagers grew fearful and anxious, thinking they must have done something to offend the God, and now He was going to abandon them.
"Kheris has only survived for generations thanks to Your divine protection! If we have unintentionally done something to offend you, Lord God, we beg for your forgiveness!" They pressed their palms together and immediately began to bow again.
Javier Sinclair: "..."
Seeing this scene, Celeste Grant felt a strange sense of familiarity. The villagers’ current devotion reminded her of the Demon Cultivators in the Lower Realm who had been so fiercely loyal to them.
Celeste Grant smiled, took Javier Sinclair’s hand, and stepped forward.
"As you can see, this is my husband."
Javier Sinclair waved his hand gently.
An invisible force lifted the villagers, bringing them to their feet.
Celeste Grant glanced at Javier Sinclair, cleared her throat, and began to speak. "Hello, everyone from Kheris. Some time ago, I arrived here alone, with no friends or family. But all of you have treated me with such sincerity. You made me feel like I wasn’t alone here, so thank you. Speaking of which, it was only during today’s village ritual that I realized the God you worship is my husband."
Facing their earnest and curious faces, Celeste Grant gave a faint smile and continued, "However, I need to clarify something. My husband is not a God in the way you understand it. Of course, we are not mortals either. We are Cultivators, right?" She gestured for him to speak.
Javier Sinclair agreed he should say a few words. He had no desire to be a God; if word got out, it would tarnish the dignity of the Demonic Domain.
With this in mind, he nodded slightly. His thin lips parted as he spoke. "I am the Umbral Sovereign of the Demonic Domain. Do you know what the Demonic Domain is? It is the rival power to the entire Immortal Domain. The Cultivators of the Immortal Domain call me a Demon. Since ancient times, Celestials and Fiends have been eternal enemies. Therefore, you have no need to worship me."
’Celestials and Fiends are eternal enemies?’
’A Demon?’
’Who?’
’Their God?’
The villagers’ gazes fell on Javier Sinclair. His face was as beautiful as a Celestial God’s; it was nearly impossible to connect him with the word "Demon."
Javier Sinclair’s tone was calm.
His words came as a shock. The villagers felt as if their minds had been forcibly stuffed with new information that day, completely shattering their worldview.
They had always worshipped and made offerings to their God, and for generations, the villagers had received his blessings. Now, they were suddenly told that Celestials and Fiends were eternal enemies, and the God they worshipped belonged to the enemy faction—the Demonic Path.
’So the God they worship is... evil?’
’No, no! Nonsense!’ The moment the thought surfaced, one of them slapped himself across the face. ’Bullshit! Our God is definitely good! Even if the King of Heaven himself came down and said otherwise, our God is on the side of good!’
’If we were wrong... no, no, the God can’t be wrong. If there’s any mistake, it must be slander. Yes, that’s it! The Cultivators in the Immortal Domain must be jealous of our God’s power, so they’re trying to defame him.’
’Thinking this way...’
...everything suddenly clicked into place.
’That’s it.’
The village’s High Priest, the one who chanted the blessings every year, looked as if he’d had a great epiphany. "I see, so that’s how it is. Our God is the Umbral Sovereign of the Demonic Domain."
