Chapter 394 - 392: This Kingdom of Skulls is All Yours
Looking at the skulls.
Celeste Grant’s expression lit up.
Really.
She felt like there was nowhere to step. From a distance, they were skulls; up close, they were still piles of skulls. There were several right at her feet. Two of them stared straight at her, with will-o’-the-wisps floating above their heads.
The grim, terrifying atmosphere made it look just like a mass grave. Anyone fainthearted who stumbled in here would probably be scared to death. If you added some scary music, this could be the set of a horror movie. The Archfiend’s aesthetic sense hadn’t changed a bit.
"Aren’t they beautiful?" Just then, Javier Sinclair had come to stand beside her.
He raised a hand slightly, pointed at the piled-up skulls, and said, "If you like them, Celeste, they’re all yours. I carved every one of these skulls by hand when I had nothing better to do. I even placed various Rune Arrays on top of them—some for offense, some for defense. If you activate the Array and throw one during a fight, you’ll get some unexpected results."
’Adding all sorts of Rune Arrays to a carved skull... is that something a normal person would do? Oh, right. He’s a Demon Cultivator. This is definitely something Javier Sinclair would do.’
"What kind of unexpected results?" Celeste Grant paused, looking up at him out of curiosity. ’It’s probably not what I’m thinking, right?’ she wondered.
Javier Sinclair gave a sinister smile, his gaze shifting to Celeste Grant’s face. "Oh, it’s nothing much," he said. "Your opponent just gets blown sky-high with a BANG, turning into a brilliant firework as their Divine Soul is obliterated."
"..." Celeste Grant was silent.
Listening to his nonchalant tone.
’His mental state is just great!’
’The father of my child is really good at making fireworks.’
Before she could say anything.
She heard Javier Sinclair continue, "The skulls don’t have any special requirements. You just need to inject your Cultivation to activate the Array. The more Cultivation you pour in, the more powerful the explosion will be."
Hearing this, Celeste Grant muttered, "Now that’s some good stuff! I never thought you could make a skull so fancy." With that, she gave him a thumbs-up and said, "Archfiend, you’re amazing. This is great."
’These aren’t skulls; they’re the Cultivation version of hand grenades! You can throw them anywhere and they’ll explode! An essential item for every home, perfect for fighting, brawling, and turning the tables when outnumbered.’
’When you don’t need them, these skulls he carved are collectibles, good for decoration. When you do need them, they become deadly weapons. It’s truly killing two birds with one stone.’
As she finished speaking, a pile of skulls in the distance collapsed with a CRASH, and a few of them rolled down. Several tumbled right to her feet.
Celeste Grant glanced down, bent over slightly, and casually picked one up to examine it. "This craftsmanship, this carving... it’s incredible. The slash marks on the bone are so lifelike. Anyone who didn’t know better would think this was a real dead person’s head."
Everyone has their strange hobbies. Celeste Grant could understand Javier Sinclair’s fondness for skulls.
Unlike a real skull, this one made of Spirit Wood gave off a faint, pleasant fragrance, a very fresh scent. Aside from looking a bit eerie, it would actually be quite nice as a home decoration.
Back when she first met Javier Sinclair, she’d been creeped out whenever he talked about cracking skulls. Seeing the skeletons scattered all over the Bloodfiend Den and the skulls hanging on display had made her skin crawl. Now, however, she wouldn’t feel a shred of fear, not even if they were real skulls, let alone fake ones.
Now, Celeste Grant was used to seeing such things. The feeling of her skin crawling had been replaced by an appreciation for art. The saying "habit becomes second nature" was really true.
’Her Archfiend’s carving skills are good enough to be declared an intangible cultural heritage.’
She flicked a finger against the cranium, glanced at Javier Sinclair, and said, "This aura... it must be from Spirit Wood that’s several thousand years old, right? Husband, you’re too extravagant."
Hearing this.
"No," Javier Sinclair said, glancing at the skull in her hand. "It’s ten-thousand-year-old Water Cloud Wood."
Ten-thousand-year-old Spirit Wood.
That was a top-tier refining material, and he’d used it to make skulls... so many of them, at that. Even though she knew he had a soft spot for these skulls, her jaw almost hit the floor.
Celeste Grant turned around so they were face to face. She looked up at him, then pointed at the piles of skulls on the ground. "I think my eyes are going blind. All this Ten-thousand-year-old Spirit Wood, and you used it just to carve skulls! That’s like using a guillotine to kill an ant. Father of my child, don’t you think that’s a little extravagant? A little wasteful?"
’This is all good material for refining top-grade treasures and Immortal Grade Magical Artifacts. If any Artifact Refiners saw this, they’d surely weep in anguish.’
Javier Sinclair placed a hand gently on her head and said nonchalantly, "You’re mistaken. These skulls were just made from the scraps of the Spirit Wood. I used the good materials to make furniture for you."
As he spoke, he gently lifted her chin and teased, "And you can close your jaw now. It’s just some Ten-thousand-year-old Spirit Wood. We have a lot of it in the Demonic Domain. If it blocks the sunlight, I just have people chop it down for firewood."
"Oh my god!"
Celeste Grant couldn’t help but exclaim.
"Blocks the sunlight!!!"
"Chop it down for firewood."
She repeated the two phrases, her eyes wide.
"You, you, you! Old Fiend Sinclair, do you hear yourself right now? People would kill you with their glares if they heard you say that!"
Javier Sinclair: "It’s the truth." ’Plenty of people want to kill me. But do they dare?’
Celeste Grant tilted her head slightly to look at him. "Is this what they call a humble-brag? Still, it feels pretty good to think about." She smiled and looped her arm through his. "Looks like I need to raise my goals."
Javier Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "You have goals? Let’s hear them."
"Of course I do! Why wouldn’t I?" Celeste Grant said. "My old goal was to become the richest woman in the Cultivation World, and I’ve already achieved that. But this is just the beginning. Next, I’m going to the Upper Realm to get bigger and better, and become the richest woman in Valerium."
’Being the richest woman in the Cultivation World can’t satisfy my appetite anymore! Mwahahaha!’
Hearing this.
Standing beside her, Javier Sinclair paused for a moment, then chuckled. "As expected of my wife. What a fine ambition." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Do whatever you want. I will always support you."
Valerium.
’Just you wait.’
Her gaze turned resolute at the thought.
"When we get to the Upper Realm, we’ll be partners in crime—pfft... I mean, a husband and wife united in purpose."
"Mm."
Looking at the piles of skulls on the ground again, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but laugh. "There are so many! Husband, I’m truly impressed."
Javier Sinclair watched her laugh.
He blushed.
