Chapter 467 - 465: He’s Really Not Flirting With Me
Celeste Grant smiled.
She chuckled. "Of course. We’re Taoist Companions." She glanced up at him and lowered her voice. "You’re the father of my two children. Naturally, I’m on your side."
Joy bloomed in Javier Sinclair’s heart as he wrapped an arm around her. His gaze shifted from the woman in his embrace to the child she cradled.
He reached out to gently stroke his daughter’s head, an irrepressible smile spreading across his face. Cradling both mother and daughter, Javier Sinclair murmured, "I never used to believe in fate, but now I do."
"Our meeting was arranged by fate."
"Mm, you’re right, my lady."
As they spoke, they met each other’s eyes and smiled. No more words were needed; they understood each other completely.
The fireworks continued to burst brilliantly in the sky, illuminating their figures.
Javier Sinclair looked up at the sky.
Recalling the Golden Crow’s aura he’d sensed moments ago, he couldn’t help but add, "It’s strange. I didn’t just sense the Golden Crow’s aura... there was also a trace of a familiar, repulsive feeling."
Celeste Grant arched an eyebrow. "What are you mumbling about? A repulsive, familiar feeling? Do you recognize it?"
"It’s just an inexplicable aversion. Perhaps I was mistaken," Javier Sinclair said. ’Of course, as the Demon God, my senses are never wrong,’ he thought. ’It’s just... when did I develop an aversion to the Golden Crow?’
Hearing this, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but laugh. "The Three-legged Golden Crow belongs to the Celestria of Empyria, and you’re from the Demon Realm. Maybe it’s just that Celestials and Fiends can’t stand each other."
"Perhaps," Javier Sinclair murmured. "But..." He shook his head slightly and said gently, "It doesn’t matter. Let’s not talk about it on such a happy occasion. What kind of fireworks would you like to see next, my lady? I’ll make them for you."
"How about a little fish?"
"A little fish? I’ll make you a big one."
"Alright!"
Their voices weren’t loud, somewhat muffled by the magical fireworks exploding overhead, but the display that night was truly beautiful.
Another half month passed in the blink of an eye after the full moon banquet.
During that time, Celeste Grant’s life was rather peaceful.
Her daughter was still too young to be away from her. Plus, since Celeste had held her so much, the baby had grown familiar with her scent and was starting to recognize her.
Before her one-month celebration, it had been fine—she would just eat and sleep. But afterward, things changed. Whenever she was awake, she demanded to be held. She’d cry the moment she was put in her little bed, and wouldn’t let anyone else hold her either. Even if she wasn’t being held, Celeste had to stay right by her side to keep her quiet. The only exception was her father; the baby was just as well-behaved when he held her.
Celeste Grant knew that one-to-two-month-old babies acted this way because their parents spoiled them. Get a child used to being held, and this is what happens. If you don’t pick them up when they cry from the start, and instead let them get used to sleeping on their own after a full meal, they’ll stay well-behaved.
After giving birth, she had been breastfeeding the baby herself. Of course, when her own milk wasn’t enough, she would supplement with Spiritual Beast Milk.
A few days prior, the plaque on her and Javier Sinclair’s residence had been changed. It was now officially named Cloud Abyss Hall, just like their home in the Bloodfiend Den back in the Lower Realm.
「The evening sun was setting.」
In the room, Celeste Grant was sitting by the window, her robes unfastened to nurse her daughter. She sat on a soft couch, cradling the baby, who was not yet two months old.
SUCKLE, SUCKLE.
’Whoever has the milk is the mother,’ she thought. ’There’s real truth to that saying.’
She looked down at her daughter suckling contentedly, an irrepressible smile on her face. The baby’s eyes were open, and she would occasionally look up at her mother, sometimes even pausing her meal. Then she would smile, looking utterly adorable.
She reached up and gently stroked her head.
"Eat up, little bun. What are you smiling at?"
"My sweet girl, how can you be this cute?"
"Mommy gives you a kiss."
She bent down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
She stroked her hair.
SUCKLE, SUCKLE.
Once the baby was full, she fastened her robes. With a casual wave of her hand, she cast a Cleaning Technique, feeling clean and refreshed.
Her daughter, now full, rested quietly in her arms. She stared with wide, unblinking eyes, then let out a hiccup, a little trickle of milk at the corner of her mouth.
Celeste Grant chuckled.
"Looks like someone ate too much."
She picked up a soft cloth and gently wiped the corner of the baby’s mouth.
"You’ve had your fill, now it’s time to sleep."
She gently patted her back, murmuring her name.
"Elise."
"Elise Sinclair."
"Mommy’s little Elise."
"Such a good girl."
She cooed softly to her daughter, and soon, the baby’s eyes slowly closed as she drifted off to sleep. Once she was sure her daughter was asleep, Celeste Grant rose as quietly as she could and laid her in the small bed nearby.
Her movements were feather-light.
But just as she laid her down, the sleeping baby’s eyes fluttered open a crack. Seeing this, Celeste Grant froze. She gently patted the baby with her other hand. Perhaps sensing her mother’s presence, the little one closed her eyes again.
’Phew~’
She let out a soft sigh of relief and carefully drew her hand back.
She pulled a small blanket over her daughter.
’Raising a child really isn’t easy,’ she mused. ’Sometimes it feels like you’re a thief.’
Celeste Grant turned, and just as she was about to sit back down on the couch, Javier Sinclair walked in.
"Claire—"
The moment he spoke, Celeste Grant put a finger to her lips and shushed him.
She pointed to their daughter in the small bed and whispered, "The baby’s asleep. Keep your voice down."
Javier Sinclair’s gaze shifted to the small bed, his eyes filling with affection.
"Mm."
He nodded slightly.
He tiptoed to the side of the bed.
Resting a hand on the edge of the little bed, he bent down slightly to gaze at his sleeping daughter. He reached out to gently adjust her small blanket, then softly stroked her hair with his finger.
’My daughter’s features are so delicate,’ he thought.
At that moment, Javier Sinclair’s heart swelled with immense pride.
’Look at this beautiful little girl. She’s mine. All mine.’
He subconsciously reached out to pick her up.
But Celeste Grant’s hand stopped him.
"Don’t you dare. If you wake her up, you’ll have me to answer to."
Javier Sinclair gave a sheepish laugh.
"I won’t, I won’t."
’Too bad.’
’I’ll just have to wait until she wakes up to hold her.’
He straightened up and, with a light raise of his hand, placed a Barrier around his daughter’s bed. The Barrier enveloped the little bed, ensuring their conversation outside it wouldn’t disturb the baby’s sleep.
"Sleep well, Daddy’s little Princess," he murmured. With that, he turned and walked over to Celeste Grant’s side.
Celeste Grant was sitting on the soft couch by the window, pouring herself a cup of water.
He went over and sat down beside her. Celeste Grant glanced at him and shifted over to make a little room.
Javier Sinclair turned to face her.
Noticing his gaze, she arched an eyebrow and looked down at the cup in her hand. "You want some?"
Javier Sinclair waved his hand.
"No, thanks."
He wore a mysterious expression.
"My lady, guess what I brought for you."
She wasn’t going to guess.
So Celeste Grant held out her hand.
"Hand it over. What is it?"
Javier Sinclair glanced at her. Meeting her curious gaze, he reached out and gave his fingers a gentle wave in front of her.
