Chapter 377 - 375: The Female Supporting Character from the Book Became the Second Sister
Charlie Grant clutched his head.
He was completely bewildered.
’What’s wrong with my brother-in-law? Why is he talking about the "previous Javier Sinclair"? Isn’t he my brother-in-law? Don’t tell me I have two of them?’ A closer look confirmed that this was, indeed, his brother-in-law.
His gaze shifted to his sister, hoping for an explanation.
Celeste Grant gave a dry laugh.
’How do I even explain this?’
She decided to tell them the truth. "It’s like this. The last time the Cultivation World was invaded by an Outer Realms Race, an immense power erupted from within him. His body couldn’t handle the strain, so his previous one... disintegrated. You can think of it as him returning in a new body. For some reason, he lost all his memories of this world, which is why he doesn’t remember you. But rest assured, he is definitely your son-in-law."
They knew he was their son-in-law. After all, no one could fake that commanding presence or the clingy way he acted around their daughter.
Hearing her explanation, they finally understood the whole story.
His body disintegrated!
’Her child.’
Mr. and Mrs. Grant imagined how much he must have suffered, and their hearts ached so much they started crying. Mrs. Grant looked at Javier Sinclair, her voice choked with sobs. She reached out and grabbed his arm. "My poor child. You must have endured so much. For your body to disintegrate... how painful that must have been."
Mrs. Grant wiped away a tear.
"You’ve suffered."
She placed her daughter and son-in-law’s hands together. Mrs. Grant then said, "As long as you’ve returned safely, that’s all that matters. It’s okay if you don’t remember. We’ll still be a family. You and Celeste must stay together. You’ve been through so much, and it’s truly a blessing that you can be with each other."
Javier Sinclair nodded slightly.
"Yes, I will."
Seeing her cry...
Javier Sinclair was a bit flustered. In the Upper Realm, he had always been all alone, with no family to speak of. Suddenly having so many relatives was something he wasn’t quite used to yet.
"Mother-in-law, please don’t cry. I’m really okay."
"He was him, and I am me. The previous one wasn’t me."
’I didn’t really suffer.’
’Even if someone suffered, it was the other Javier Sinclair.’
’His body even disintegrated.’
’How tragic.’
’But he was a little glad. If his ’predecessor’ hadn’t died, it wouldn’t have been his turn. The previous Javier Sinclair was probably just a wisp of his Primordial Spirit. If that’s the case, he was actually quite grateful. The guy found him a wife in the Lower Realm. Thanks to his predecessor’s selfless contribution, he was able to get the girl and even got a great son out of the deal for free.’
Mr. and Mrs. Grant looked at them and said, "Alright, let’s not just stand here. Let’s go home."
Charlie Grant walked up to them and gestured for them to enter. "Sister, Brother-in-law, let’s go inside."
Celeste Grant nodded with a smile. "Alright, let’s go home." As she said this, her eyes scanned the area. Not seeing the supporting female character from the book, she couldn’t help but ask, "By the way, where’s little sister Mandy?" She hadn’t had a chance to talk to her since last time.
Hearing this, Mrs. Grant replied, "Your sister went out to train. She’ll be thrilled to know you’re back; she was just talking about you. I’ll contact her right now and ask her to come home."
At these words, Charlie Grant, who was standing to the side, spoke up. "Dad, Mom, Sister, you all go in first. I’ll call Second Sister and tell her to come back." As he spoke, Charlie Grant held out his hand, a mobile phone appearing in it. It was a phone produced by the Bloodfiend Den, already a trusted, established brand. The one in his hand, however, was the latest 6.0 version in a glossy black color.
Charlie Grant stood at the entrance, using his phone to call his second sister.
The call connected quickly.
It was a video call.
Manuel Grant’s face appeared on the phone’s screen—a face completely different from Celeste Grant’s.
"Little brother, what’s up?"
She seemed to be on a city street somewhere, though it was unclear where.
"Second Sister, where are you? Aren’t you coming back yet?"
The moment he spoke, she smiled at him, and her voice came through the phone. "Miss me, little brother? I won’t be back for a few more days. I made plans with some sisters from the Bloodfiend Den yesterday to go to the Demonic Beast Mountains today to hunt Demonic Beasts. Your second sister here only has a late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivation. I need to work harder, and quickly. The lowest in our family is Golden Core. What excuse do I have not to try my best?"
After her body was reconstructed, Manuel Grant had an Ice Spirit Root, just like Charlie Grant. This was consistent with her portrayal in the book. Now that she had a new lease on life, without the troublemaker Jocelyn Grant bothering her, she was very diligent in her cultivation.
Charlie Grant looked at her and said, "Second Sister, are you sure you’re not coming back? Our big sister and brother-in-law are home right now. Big Sis was just asking about you."
"Huh... Really?" Hearing this, her head shot right up to the screen. Manuel Grant stared at him with wide eyes, the joy on her face and in her gaze impossible to hide. "Little brother, are you serious? Sister’s back? You’re not tricking me, are you?"
Seeing her disbelief, Charlie Grant scratched his head and chuckled. "You know I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m really not kidding. Hurry back. Big Sis is really here. Look, this is the Magic Treasure our brother-in-law gave me, the Green Moon Ruler."
As he spoke, he held the three-foot-long green ruler up to the camera for her to see.
She spoke up.
"Brother-in-law truly lives up to his title as the Demon God; he only gives out the best things. Little brother, since our sister and brother-in-law are treating you so well, you have to remember their kindness. Don’t you dare be ungrateful."
Back when Celeste Grant was wiping the floor with the female lead, Manuel had been ecstatic. That’s why she held so much respect for her sister Celeste, and even more gratitude. Her brother-in-law had also given her a chance at a new life. Now, she could feel the sun on her skin again and be with her parents. It felt so good to have a life full of hope.
Charlie Grant nodded. "I know, Second Sister. I’m not that kind of person."
Convinced that Celeste Grant was truly back, Manuel Grant nodded happily on the other end of the line. "Wait for me! I’m coming back right now! I’ll be there right away."
Charlie Grant laughed. "Second Sister, didn’t you say you were teaming up with your friends to hunt Demonic Beasts?"
"Haha, that’s not important." Manuel Grant waved her hand dismissively. "I can hunt Demonic Beasts anytime. Now that Big Sis is back, I have to come see her. A family has to stick together, right?"
Charlie Grant rubbed his head. "Okay, then hurry back, Second Sister. Our little nephew is here, too. He’s gotten so handsome, and he’s grown taller. He’s half a head taller than me now."
Hearing this, Manuel Grant’s expression grew thoughtful.
"Oh, right. I should prepare a gift. I’ll go check out an auction house in a bit."
"Mhm..."
"I’m hanging up for now."
"Okay."
Meanwhile, Celeste Grant went back home with Mr. and Mrs. Grant.
That evening, Mrs. Grant cooked dinner herself, with Celeste helping out.
Even Javier Sinclair and her son personally prepared the fish.
Together, they made a lavish dinner.
Manuel Grant rushed back, arriving late that night.
"Dad, Mom, I’m back!"
"I heard my little nephew is back? Where is he? Let me see."
