Chapter 443 - 441: You Stand Still, Let Your Husband Take Over
Upon hearing this, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "You’ve got some nerve. Didn’t you say you’d come find me as soon as you’d handled things? How long has it been? I haven’t seen a trace of you."
As she spoke, she aimed the view of the mirror at her large, pregnant belly.
She gently caressed her stomach and looked up at him. "Look at me," she said. "The baby will be born any day now. If you don’t come soon, you’re going to miss our daughter’s birth."
Her words landed clearly in Javier Sinclair’s ears.
His gaze fell on Celeste Grant’s round belly, and he froze for a moment. He reached out a hand, touching her stomach through the void. He could already feel the baby moving inside her. "The baby’s moving." Even though this wasn’t his first time becoming a father, the sensation made his hand pause, and an irrepressible smile touched his lips.
Before, touching Celeste Grant from such a distance would have been difficult, but it wasn’t anymore. Now that he possessed the Demon God’s memories after the Primordial Spirit Fusion, he could do so with a single thought.
He gently caressed her belly, and his heart softened as he felt the baby stir. "That’s my daughter."
Seeing his dazed expression, Celeste Grant chuckled. "She’s *our* daughter."
"Yes," he murmured, "a beautiful little girl." Javier’s voice was filled with undisguised joy. He had always wanted a daughter, specifically a daughter with her. Now, his wish had come true. "My love, we have a daughter."
As the Demon God, he had already seen the child in Celeste Grant’s womb in visions of the future. She was a beautiful little girl who looked just like her mother.
He lifted his gaze to Celeste Grant’s face.
Javier Sinclair called out to her.
"Celeste."
She smiled back at him, murmuring, "My love, I’m here. I’ve always been here."
A tender warmth flowed between them.
He gently caressed her cheek. "It must have been difficult for you while I was away," he said softly. He paused, a blush creeping up his face as he averted his gaze. "And... I missed you. A lot."
’It wasn’t a wicked Demon she had to fear, but the Archfiend speaking to her with such tenderness.’ It made her want to hug him right then and there.
At that thought, Celeste Grant smiled. "I know. I missed you too, my love. And it’s not just me—our daughter missed you too." She gave him a look. "Now, don’t just stand there gawking. Hurry up and come find me. I’m in a remote corner of the Immortal Domain." She then added with a sly smile, "Speaking of which, care to guess where I am? Let’s see if you can pinpoint my location. The Immortal Domain is a long way from your Demonic Domain; can you even sense me?"
’He’d promised when he left. Promised he would be back soon. But she’d gotten pregnant, and he still hadn’t returned. Now, all this time had passed, and she was about to give birth. He’d nearly missed it.’
The thought of Celeste having to ascend to the Upper Realm alone while pregnant... He could only imagine what she had been through. Javier’s heart clenched. ’I’m a terrible husband,’ he thought, filled with self-reproach.
Despite his inner turmoil, his expression was gentle as he spoke to her.
"Alright, let me see." With a single thought, Javier Sinclair found her. After sensing her location, he raised an eyebrow. "This place..." He paused. "I feel like I’ve been here before."
Javier Sinclair was indeed powerful, able to locate her with a single thought. Celeste Grant gave him a thumbs-up. "Impressive. You found me so quickly."
Sitting on a stone stool, Celeste Grant aimed the Mysterious Ancient Mirror toward the village. "Take a look. Does this place look familiar to you?"
He nodded slowly.
"Yes. I believe I have."
Celeste Grant smiled.
"It’s not a belief. You really have."
"The village is very lively tonight. Look, over there they’re singing, dancing, drinking, and feasting. They’re holding a sacrificial ritual today. The villagers killed chickens and sheep as offerings to their God... which is you."
"What?"
Javier Sinclair’s eyebrows shot up.
"A God?"
Celeste Grant nodded.
"You’ve definitely been to this village before, though you might have forgotten. But the people here have remembered you for generations. They even built a statue of you and have been worshipping it ever since. They say you’re a God. Oh, and today, Madam Forrest lit incense and prayed for you to bless her sow with a healthy litter of piglets, and to help her daughter find a good husband."
At that...
Javier Sinclair froze.
"Blessing a sow with piglets... Me?"
"Heh."
’He felt the need to clarify a few things.’
’First of all, as the supreme ruler of the Demonic Domain, he wasn’t that idle. And on a grander scale, he was the Demon God, responsible for guarding the Demon Realm and maintaining its Barrier. He really couldn’t care less about some villager’s sow giving birth.’
Celeste Grant let out a soft laugh and nodded.
"Mmm-hmm, you."
"The moment I saw the statue today, I knew the God they worship was you. They said that three hundred years ago, they were attacked by a beast tide, and you descended from the heavens to save them."
Hearing this...
Javier Sinclair spoke up. "Now that you mention it, I do remember something like that!"
’He’d been searching for something and was just passing through when he saved them on a whim. Afterward, he’d fallen into a deep slumber due to his Cultivation, and the villagers had taken him in. They even fed him all sorts of medicinal soups, though he hadn’t needed them. Well, no harm done. And they truly did their best to care for me.’
’The villagers were truly simple folk. Even for someone like him, so accustomed to bloodshed, it was hard not to feel a shred of pity. He’d given them some means to protect themselves.’
’He just never expected them to erect a statue and worship him for generations. A Demon God had no need for their offerings.’
「In the village where Celeste Grant was.」
She was still sitting on the stone stool not far from the ancestral hall, talking to Javier Sinclair through the Ancient Mirror.
She waved a dismissive hand.
"Enough talk. Just hurry up and get here."
"You’re the God of honor at today’s festival. You should at least show up in person for a meal and, you know, work a miracle or two."
Seeing her smile, he nodded.
"You’re right, my love. I suppose I should at least rise from the dead for the occasion."
Just as he said that, someone approached from nearby.
"Miss Grant, who are you talking to?"
Celeste Grant glanced at the newcomer and pointed to the glowing Ancient Mirror in her hand, where a figure was visible. "I’m talking to my husband. He’ll be here soon."
Lily Paxton, who had just reached her side, stared with wide eyes at the object in her hand. She pointed, her voice stuttering, "Wh-whoa... what is that? Miss Grant, there’s a person in your mirror!"
Just then, Javier Sinclair’s voice came from the mirror. "Who’s this?"
Celeste Grant smiled faintly. "Madam Forrest’s daughter."
’There was a person in the mirror, and he could talk.’
AHH!
The shock sent Lily Paxton stumbling back, and she nearly fell. Celeste Grant quickly stood up and steadied her by the arm.
