Chapter 441 - 439: A Dead Ex-Husband Should Stay Dead
In that case, it made perfect sense that someone with his abilities would leave behind a mysterious power to protect the villagers. After all, Javier Sinclair’s true form was the Demon God himself.
And it was fine for the villagers here to worship him.
’A Demon God is still a God, after all!’
Just then, Madam Forrest, standing beside her, took some incense, knelt before the statue, and began to pray. "Please, God, keep my family safe. Please help my daughter marry into a good family this year. And please, bless our sow with a smooth delivery of her piglets."
Madam Forrest’s face was a picture of piety as she spoke.
Celeste Grant couldn’t help but stifle a cough.
’Blessing a sow with a smooth delivery?’
She glanced up at the statue, her expression hard to put into words.
’Is it possible...’
’...that your God doesn’t handle sow births or marriages?’
Celeste Grant accepted the incense from the village chief, who said, "Young lady Celeste, although you’re not from our village, the fact that you could come here means you’re fated to be with us. Now that you’re here, you’re one of us. You should pay your respects, too. The God will protect you. The God we worship in our village is a true God. Being able to make it in time for this shows you have a strong connection to this village, young lady Celeste."
Anyone with a wicked heart would be unworthy of worshipping their God.
Celeste Grant nodded slightly.
"Thank you, Chief."
She glanced at the statue.
’He really is a true God.’
’The statue is incredibly well-made. Even the Demon God himself would have to admit it’s a striking resemblance. That just goes to show how well they’ve maintained it.’
Celeste Grant was now certain: the being this statue depicted was, without a doubt, her child’s father. ’Don’t think I won’t recognize you just because you’re a statue, Archfiend.’
After her ascension, she had arrived in this remote land, never expecting to find traces of Javier Sinclair everywhere. She had come to a place Javier Sinclair had once visited.
The Priest, assuming she was about to kneel, saw her large belly and interjected, "You’re pregnant. It’s fine to just stand and bow. The God won’t blame you for being careful not to harm the pregnancy."
"Alright."
’Perfect.’
’I can’t just kneel to my own child’s father, can I? Back in the Cultivation World, he promised he’d hurry back to my side. And what happens? I’m about to give birth, and there’s still no sign of him. He should count himself lucky I’m not the one making *him* kneel on a washboard.’
She held the incense and bowed.
But in her heart, she was pleading, ’Archfiend, if you can really sense me, give me a sign. If you don’t show up soon, you’re going to miss our daughter’s birth.’
After paying her respects to the God, she placed the incense in the censer and followed Madam Forrest outside. As she left the shrine, she glanced back at the statue one last time.
The entire village participated in the ritual.
The men beat gongs and drums while the women sang and danced.
The morning was dedicated to the ritual.
In the evening, the whole village gathered around a bonfire, drinking lamb soup, eating roasted meat, and sipping home-brewed spirits. Laughter and cheerful chatter filled the air long into the night.
Amidst the lively atmosphere, Celeste Grant rose and stepped away from the crowd.
Her gaze fell upon the shrine in the center of the village, which had not been closed for the night. Candles flickered within, and seeing the statue, she couldn’t resist walking toward it.
When she reached the entrance, she looked at the village’s god statue.
She held out her hand.
The Ancient Mirror materialized in her palm.
Celeste Grant held the Ancient Mirror in one hand, gently brushing its edge with the other. The next moment, runes on the mirror lit up. She had expected this time to be no different from before, but to her surprise, an image flickered to life on its surface.
The scene in the Ancient Mirror appeared to be a place for cultivation. The image moved, and finally, she saw Javier Sinclair in meditation. Demonic Qi swirled around him, and his body was wreathed in flames.
Seeing him.
Celeste Grant’s eyes lit up.
"You... I can finally see you."
However, he didn’t seem to be awake. Celeste Grant said no more, afraid she might disturb him.
Celeste Grant looked around, found a stone block near the shrine, and sat down, waiting for him to wake up. ’If the Ancient Mirror can see him, it must mean Javier Sinclair will awaken from his slumber soon.’
She waited quietly, her gaze fixed on his face.
She gently caressed her belly. "Baby, we’ve found Daddy."
「Meanwhile, on the other side of the Ancient Mirror.」
Javier Sinclair, deep in meditation, frowned slightly.
Two figures had appeared within his Sea of the Primordial Spirit. One was the Javier Sinclair who had become Celeste Grant’s Taoist Companion in the Cultivation World; the other was the Javier Sinclair who had lived for tens of thousands of years in the Demonic Domain. And now, they were fighting over a wife, neither willing to yield.
"Aren’t you already dead? What are you doing showing up again? A dead ex should have the decency to stay dead. Celeste is mine now. She’ll only ever love me from now on. She can live perfectly well with me, even without you."
The other man sneered. "Hah. Since when did my wife become yours while I was asleep? Even if we’re going by first-come, first-served, *I’m* the one who became Taoist Companions with Celeste. What’s it got to do with you?"
"Who says she’s yours just because you met her first? I only know that I take what I want. An ex is just an ex. Even if you come back to life, I can put you right back in your grave. As long as I’m around, Celeste will eventually forget all about you."
"You think that’s possible? The mother of my child loves *me* the most. Don’t go thinking Celeste likes you. You’re nothing but my substitute. A mere replacement, and you dare act so arrogant in front of the real thing?"
"Hah! You just happen to look a bit like me. What makes you think *I’m* the substitute? A dead ex has no business showing up again. Don’t think you’re so special just because you and Celeste have a son. As if that’s something I couldn’t do. Besides, Celeste is pregnant with *my* child now. My daughter will definitely be beautiful when she’s born."
Hearing this.
The ex-husband’s face darkened, and he sneered, "Your daughter? That’s *my* daughter. What the hell does she have to do with you?"
"What do you mean? Celeste is carrying my very own daughter. Unlike you, who can only father sons. From now on, I’ll be a man with a daughter, too."
"Damn you... Just die!"
Within the Sea of the Primordial Spirit, the two figures began brawling again at the first sign of disagreement.
One threw a palm strike, the other shot back a kick.
They even started grappling, rolling around on the ground. Any dignity befitting the supreme lord of the Demonic Sects was utterly nonexistent. After yet another stalemate, the two sat back-to-back.
"What exactly do you want?"
"I should be asking you that."
"Hah! Don’t even think about trying to take Celeste from me, ’Mr. Ex-Husband.’ Even if you are my Primordial Spirit, I will never hand her over to you."
"Like I need you to ’hand her over.’ And what’s this about me being *your* Primordial Spirit? Don’t flatter yourself. Get it straight—you’re the wisp of Primordial Spirit that *I* split off."
"Impossible."
Just as the two were about to start fighting again...
...they both seemed to sense something. They exchanged a look and glanced up toward the heavens.
