Chapter 421: Back From the Dead
The news of Aether’s awakening had been... confusing, to say the least. Even for Silas.
Pacing around in his room, Silas thought of how the boy could still be alive.
When Sena had first arrived, he was checked to see if he was alive, and every specialist had said he was most definitely dead, gone. No way of him surviving. It had been both bad news and good news. After all, even if he had wanted him to be alive so he could train him, his dying wasn’t the worst thing, even if it was one less Vessel. At least he didn’t have to worry about the Abyss.
Plus, it wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary; a lot of Vessels die quickly.
He sighed, sitting in his chair. ’When it comes to the past, there had been many Vessels, the first being the strongest, before humans were even allowed to grow stronger through stories. The Codex wasn’t always so free, during the war that is. After the Abyss had died, the first generation was born, with the Infinite Library finally coming.
Many think it’s as old as time, but it isn’t. It’s just older than anything we know. After all, only a few know anything about the war between the Gods.’
The first Vessels were considered special, beyond special, but they weren’t the only ones; there were some interesting generations. None matched the first, but it wasn’t like they had been weak.
But that, again, was in the old generation; no one from that era is alive. Just, they only knew about this from hints and mysterious drawings, text, and more from the Wonderland. For example, the war between the Gods and Demons, they barely had any information about that. Hardly able to unmask anything about it.
What they knew was that the Demons were the creation of the Fallen, used to help the world, before something corrupted them, a being that no one knows about. After that, they were created to kill the Gods. Many think the Fallen had been the ones who had done it. But he had taken part in the war, and not on their side. So who was the true villain?
They had no idea.
Beyond that point, there had been Vessels, emerging once in a while from death to help the world. But they never lasted; they never had that great a strength.
Even he had met some; after all, he was a Breaker... he was old, really old, and still had a lot more to live. Still, he wasn’t the oldest, not even close; there were many old Awakened who had lived long. That includes Avius; after all, he had trained him. He had been his teacher; that was how old he was. True, he had aged because he was only a Bearer, but it was his choice not to ascend.
He too thought this generation of Vessels was... special. Or rather, what he was trying to say was that they might grow on par with the strongest there have been. ’Meaning something is bound to happen... which only makes Winter so much more important.’
Lilith, Sena, Cain, Iris.
And now Aether.
All have shown great strength for their age, and he wasn’t going to start on potential. They were stronger than any Vessels of their era had been.
And with Aether coming back from the dead... it really did seem like fate wasn’t planning on letting them die like the others any time soon.
Still, coming from the dead, he wasn’t sure if there had been any cases of something like this happening. But at the same time, he couldn’t say for sure; after all, no one knew the full strengths of the Vessels of the old generation. They didn’t haven’t found that much information about them to figure that out. And there was no one alive from that era, since humans didn’t use to be as strong as they are now.
But at the same time. If there was a Vessel that was ever going to have the Ability to come back from death. It would be the Abyss...
...
...
...
Getting back on his feet, Aether stretched his body. It felt... brand new, like nothing had just happened to him. It was whole, no hole in his chest. He wasn’t sure how, if it had been the people that had taken care of him... or something else, but he was... intact.
...’ Did I... really get a new Ability?’ With everything that had happened, it was hard for him to think rationally; even if it was obvious, he didn’t know which parts of his time before his awakening had been real, and what had been illusions.
Abyssal Abilities — [Shadow Speech][Mask of the Fool][Abyssal Matter][Gravewalker]
His cheeks reddened a bit, staring at it... he had really done it. He had finally gotten a new Ability, his second, when it came to the one rewarded from sync rising.
’So that means... what I experienced before was some kind of trial, as I had with Shadow speech... but then what kind of Ability is this going to be...’
[Gravewalker] - The Forgotten has been alive for more time than the world has been alive, and yet, it has died more than anything in the world. And yet, it always found a way to come back from the death. You have inherited a portion of its immortality, only being able to be killed if either your heart, brain, or any important vital organs are destroyed. If your death is caused by any other means, you shall rise, not fully die, but rather be put in a state of resurrection lasting five minutes. If death comes to you in those minutes, no matter the way you die, you will fail your resurrection and fully die, but if you get through it. You will come back from the dead.

Aether’s eyes widened as he stared at the description of the Ability, completely speechless.
He opened his mouth, trying to say something. But before he could, the door opened as Sena burst in.
