Raydor Holy Sword War Journal
101. Shaking Royal Palace
The news that Raydol fulfilled his orders and slaughtered all the traitors of the Eight Eastern Houses was also delivered to the royal palace.
King Granard Zayne was silently listening to the Raydall victory report delivered by his soldiers, but eventually quietly agreed.
"... I see, did he win again?"
"Hah...."
The soldier who came to report lowered his head deep on his knees. The expression carries a deep colour of fear, desperately turning his face to the floor and turning away from Granard.
He was a soldier who dared to turn away from Granard's face, but the reason was obvious.
The burn-like bruises stuck to Granard's face as he sat on the throne and slapped him with his fingers. The bruises, which cover about a quarter of the face, run from the nose and lips through the neck to the left chest.
The blue-purple bruises, which corrode the country's apex, suddenly appeared a few months ago. The cause is the Curse of the 'Promise' by Raydol.
A few months ago, a spy sent to the town of Wolffin to fit Raydol ran off and assaulted the king's brother's life without his permission.
Although the assassination was unsuccessful, the curse was triggered when the King's men threatened Raydol's life, triggering a curse mark on Grannard's left chest, engraving a dark bruise on the King's skin.
The bruises from the left chest to the face inflict burning pain on Granard day and night.
And every time the pain ran, Grannard recruited hatred for his brother.
The soldier finishes the report in a pale tone with his eyes down from the king, who is expressing an apparent mood from pain and hatred.
"Thank you, you may step back."
"Ha... excuse me."
Relax your shoulders in relief, and the soldiers leave the room between their looks and their gaze.
Grannard raised his fist loudly to see the soldier disappear beyond the door.
"Damn it, Raidor!
Dan, slap his fist against the armrest of the throne.
The chair seated by the successive Kings of Zain makes an ominous noise, but does not hesitate to raise his voice.
"Falsify me everywhere! You despise me, my king and brother, and get drunk in the victory! My brother, who's boiling back and forth!
After the bruises caused by the curse were engraved, the fire of constant hatred was raging in Granard's heart.
In the first place, the spy who triggered the curse aimed to discredit Raidor by setting the town of Wolfine on fire and blaming it. It was an arbitrary plot to assassinate Raydol and triggered a spell to defeat him. It is a shape that has completely dug a grave.
Schemer, drowning in a cure - as if heaven were feeling destined to make Raidor king, greasing Grannard's wrath.
It is Prime Minister Rockwood Marcel, who is still close to him, who watches such an angry king bitterly.
"... however, Your Majesty. Looking at the results alone is not only bad. Thanks to Lord Raydol's victory, we can regain control of the eastern border region."
Rockwood chooses words not to irritate the King, whilst gently following.
The majority of the eight eastern family territories seized by the Empire have returned to the Kingdom of Zain. Although the Empire destroyed Earl Arbeil and Viscount Ilcas territories were still in the hands of the enemy, negotiations for their return were proceeding in parallel with harmony.
"Originally, the eastern border region was not seen from the center, so if we can use this as an opportunity to send people who are convenient for us as lords, shouldn't we take advantage of it?
The border region of the Kingdom of Zain was ruled by a loyal and trustworthy lord from the very beginning of the kingdom.
However, in a long history, the local aristocracy away from the center became obsessed with their own gains and losses, and their loyalty to the royal family diminished.
In fact, only two houses remained loyal to the royal family until the end of this invasion. Three-quarters of the eight eastern houses are turned upside down.
"Sending in trustworthy people will give Her Majesty even more power. Let's think about it, shall we use His Majesty Raydol to strengthen your influence?"
"... hmm. I wouldn't complain if he was dead in battle!
Although the Prime Minister's follow-ups slowed him down slightly, Grannard still strokes the bruises on his face with his left hand with malice.
Rockwood shakes his head with a reluctant face as he breathes relief at the calming king.
(... Your Majesty may not be able to do it anymore. Whether it can no longer play a role as the country's main pillar)
Prime Minister Rockwood Marcel is a selfless loyalist.
However, the loyalty was not necessarily directed to King Granard, but to the kingdom of Zain. For Rockwood, the King is the pillar that supports the nation and is only a state-run gear.
Rockwood's presence on Granard's side was only because he thought that his brother, who had supported the government since his predecessor's time, was more worthy of being king than his younger, immature brother.
(But... things have changed. Lord Raydol, who was sent to the perimeter and lost everything, is now trying to get everything...!
Raydol demonstrated his strength as holder of the Holy Sword in the battle against the Empire and gained honor.
Through his activities as an adventurer, he scooped people and gained popular support.
And with this Oriental expedition, I gained my own army, and followed the survivors of the eight eastern houses as close relatives.
(And... some of the nobles and officials in the royal palace are already on Lord Raydol's side. I don't know how much you're reaching for my throat, but it's only a matter of time before the balance flips over.)
Rockwood doesn't know exactly how many people are on Raidor's side.
However, at least some of the top ministers, including the Attorney General, had been spotted turning around on Leidor's side.
Apart from being chosen by the Holy Sword, his little brother, the Prince, has gained more influence before he takes his place in Granard.
Whatever dilemma we're going through, whatever strategy we're going through, it's going to grow as if we're feeding it.
(I see... is this the hero of our time?)
Rockwood is convinced with distant eyes somewhere.
Raidor, who has been in power for a short period of time as if she had been loved by the Goddess of Destiny, is certainly the hero of his time.
Alternatively, it may be more appropriate for future generations of historians to see it as a mischievous disturbance to the country.
(If you think so, it might have been a strange idea to send your daughter to Her Highness. Whatever form my Marcel family will serve the next king)
It was a faint feeling that Mertina Marcel, captured by Leidor as a prisoner of war, was involved in the breakdown inside the court.
If Mertina supports Raidor as the next king, even if Grannard loses his legs and Rockwood sinks with him, it is a satisfactory outcome as a loyal prime minister.
The political battle that will arise between our brothers - if Granard triumphs there, Rockwood triumphs, and if Raidor triumphs, Mertina triumphs over the king. Whichever victory was won, the loyalty of the Marcels was immortal.
(I sacrificed my daughter once for the sake of my country. This time I have to be prepared to be sacrificed.)
"Rockwood, what are you going to do next? Don't let that brother grow any longer!
"That's right....."
Grannard shouts in disdain to the Prime Minister, who fears for the future of the kingdom.
Rockwood interrupted his thinking and now has the best hand he can think of.
