Chapter 163: Musings of Dead Men
Joe Joe kept on rambling, given though he was a man with no worries, he was still a man with regrets.
The giant monster walked into the spotlight as Morbius took a few steps backwards into the darkness. It was enough that he had been stripped of his guiding force. But he would have to face this creature with nothing but his bare strength.
Each step was thunderous, sending shockwaves thoughout the entire space.
Joe Joe struggled to stand to his feet, the creature he saw before him looked even more grotesque and hideous than the other.
He squeezed his face as the monster approached him.
With one deft swing of its right hand, Joe Joe was suddenly caught between a rock and a hard place. He tried his best to block and ultimately parry but he was sent crashing against the wall, meters out from where her originally stood.
He spat out a chunk of blood, which stained his body as he struggled to keep his eyes open, his body had gone limp. His breath was ragged and his hand was broken.
That was the amount of raw strength that Destro possessed, the demonic experiment was not even using any technique or Qi, this was all just raw power.
Destro roared, forcing a triumphant smile to flash across the face of Morbius. Who was watching eagerly.
Destro reached the crater that Joe Joe’s body had dug in the wall in no time. He picked the smaller man up by his neck and and suspended him in the air, Joe Joe used his one good hand to try and pry himself from the grip, but it was too strong.
The chains had even shattered due to the impact of the hit. Destro roared in Joe Joe’s face, covering his face with droplets of rancid saliva, then he threw the man to the wall again.
The impact dug an even deeper hole, the man gasped in pain and loss of breath.
"Gaaaahhh!!" Joe Joe screamed, more of his ribs had been completely shattered in his insides, with some even poking out of his body.
But Destro was not finished. The large monster took a few steps back and ran at the man with full speed. Joe Joe could see the hunk of meat coming towards him at full blast.
He tried his hardest to move his body but he was unsuccessful.
BOOM!
The demon rammed a shoulder against Joe Joe’s bare body, causing the man to scream out even further in pain. Joe Joe was smothered against the wall in the most unimaginably painful way.
There was a laugh that could be heard suddenly coming from the top of the structure.
The demon king was laughing triumphantly at tbe exploits of his creation. Joe Joe could not even look up to ascertain where the laugh was coming from, but he knew the voice all too well.
BOOM!
Destro crashed a shoulder into his body again, the life was suddenly draining from his eyes as his body was being destroyed in real time. Joe Joe could no longer form coherent thoughts, his full weight was getting squashed against the concrete like he was nothing.
’Death comes for all of us, I have lived a full life and I have seen what it is to be loved, to love. To live and to die...’ his thoughts were suddenly cut off as the monster slammed into him for the last time.
Destro grunted as he picked up the chunk of meat little by little and started shoving it down his throat, in the most barbaric manner. He ate what was left of Joe Joe’s flesh, absorbing the man’s muscle mass and life essence.
"Yes! It works, get ready Morbius, we attack the world tree soon!" The Demon King’s words echoes throughout the dungeons, and then vanished, leaving Morbius there with Destro.
But Destro instinctively knew what to do, when the monster was done devouring Joe Joe’s remains, it turned around and started walking away, its destination was ultimately the Demon King’s chamber.
Morbius laughed as he walked pass the huge crater that was left in Joe Joe’s wake, a large hole that was dug in the walls.
He snickered as he moved past, walking past the dungeon cells, he stopped when he arrived at Ruen’s cell. The man still laid there, breathing heavily with his back laid against the damp wall.
He was looking like he would is any moment. Morbius just sneered at him and walked away. As much as humans hated demons, demons also hated humans.
But it was never a fair fight as most humans were strong cultivators and the Demon King was ultimately sealed in Helmand, with no escape.
The silence was loud as Ruen lay there, the sound of clanging and dripping water surrounded the dungeon.
He could even hear the sound of his own breathing as he laid there, life slipping away from him slowly.
"I-I told... him." Ruen muttered to himself with dry lips. "B-But he... wouldn’t l-listen."
He felt a chill breeze sweep past him as he looked at the skeleton of his dead comrade.
The skeleton had already begun to decay and turn into dust as it lay beside him.
’My time has finally come. I can finally go to rest my friend, I will join you in the afterlife.’ Ruen’s thoughts took over as his mouth and breath were too weak to even utter any words.
He closed his eyes as a tear rolled down his cheek, he could slowly feel life slip away and death encroach in his personal territory.
He lay there for a few moments until he took his final breath, there was never any hoped for him, no savior, no support. Just his memories.
The jailers never cleaned out the cells, the bodies of dead prisoners was just left there to waste and eventually decay, turning into dust.
Neither Alaric, nor most members of the Elder Covenant knew about what had happened here today, but they would know soon.
Morbius walked through the halls with a grin on his face, that was another win for the deomon race and now the final step was about to be taken.
There was no one who could stop them from carrying out their plan.
