Chapter 126: Confrontation
Jacob sat on top of a distant hill overlooking the estate of Wutherhorn, he liked to come here from time to time after Light had shown him the place.
It was a vantage point from which he could see how far the estate stretched out. The houses, the farms, the bars, the work places. Everything was on display from here.
He had set a clone to cultivate for him in Kalgin and he had now broken through to the Void Sovereign realm, even more easily than he expected.
His mind raced, he reminisced about his discussion with Allicent, who said that all weak people deserved to die, he did not agree with her. In his mind not all weak people deserved to be unalived, except the ones who had committed atrocious crimes like murder.
He knew there was no changing her mind about the matter and he wondered if there was a way to restrain her, he didn’t linger on the thought for long as his fast mind quickly jumped to another. He now thought about his upcoming duel with Heimdall.
From his assessment, Heimdall possessed power, power that was unmatched even by the sons of the Primarch, based on his omniscience, he already knew what this power was, and he doubted that he could fully affect it. But he would do whatever possible.
His mind raced over a plethora of things, but his thought process was immediately halted when he felt a strange presence around him, a presence he had felt multiple times since he came to the Wutherhorn estate.
Now that he was alone, it was finally time to address this thing.
Morbius lingered in the shadows as he watched Jacob keenly, he had managed to hide himself as perfectly as he could in the pathway between the upper world and Helmand.
It was called The Door, a place only accessible by the Gods, the Demon King and his minions, but since the Demon King himself could not pass through The Door as he pleased, he had his number one ranked minion in Morbius do it.
Morbius watched, unaware of anything as perception was significantly reduced in The Door, he could not tell that a shadow had creeped up behind him.
The shadow of Jirin instantly grabbed his neck and raised him above the ground. The shadow was able to touch him because it was made of the power of Void, which was a core element in the creation of The Door, and it therefore could affect Morbius through it.
"Arghhh!" Morbius grunted as Jirin held him up in the air by his neck, and held his hands outwards with its other hands. Morbius was completely helpless as he seemingly floated in the air. He kicked as hard as he could but his feet only passed through the shadow, every attack he hopelessly fired seemed to not even faze the shadow that held him up in the air. Jacob’s shadows were intangible, in the way that they could physically affect things, but almost all non-void/shadow based attacks against them were useless.
The demon general recognized this shadow as Jirin, twin brother to Jaran, two of his loyal subordinates. His eyes widened at the realization and he called out to Jirin multiple times to let him go but there was no response whatsoever.
Morbius had already given up before Jacob finally spoke up, he still sat at the edge of the mountain, looking at the massive land that the Wutherhorn Primarch had dominion over. "You’ve been following me for quite some time now, watching me. Tell me, what is it that your master wants?"
"I-I really don’t know, I am but a servant, it’s always difficult to tell what my master is thinking!" Morbius answered, straining to breathe and talk. He had been in a similar situation with when the demon king had almost killed him, but this was child’s play compared to what he felt then.
Jacob finally turned to face him for the first time, abandoning the beautiful view and facing the demon squarely. "I believe you, but I do not wish to be watched anymore..." He started.
He looked down at his hand and made his index finger and thumb open and close, touching each other, and creating tiny sparks of blue lightning.
His aura suddenly increased to a point where Morbius felt as though he would suffocate completely. "...I could kill you right here and now and it would be of no consequence—but I choose not to—go back to your master and tell him that I’m not interested in whatever game he’s playing. The next time I catch you lurking around would be the last time."
Jacob threatened Morbius without batting his eyes. The whole time, the only thing this demon could think was who was this mere mortal, and why we as he so powerful. He would definitely report to the Demon King immediately, but he also didn’t want to lose his life, the next time he would go even a mile near Jacob would either be with an army, or with the demon king himself.
He swore this in his heart as Jirin dropped him on the floor, he looked up tiredly and thought of a million ways to attack, but the young man’s aura was just too overwhelming. Even though he was in anything but a battle stance, Morbius know that if he attacked the boy right there and then, he would not live to tell the story.
Jacob watched him silently with disdain, he despised ugly things, especially ugly demons, and this was by far the ugliest demon he had ever laid his eyes upon.
He wished that Morbius would try something but seeing as this demon cowered in fear and retreated slowly back into tbe pocket space from which it had been pulled from, he knew it was smart.
Morbius had finally crossed the threshold called The Door, away from Jacob’s gaze and overpowering aura, he clutched his chest and breathed heavily, sweat fell freely from his forehead.
He had only ever felt this weak in the presence of the demon king, he had no idea why a regular human would have that kind of power, it wasn’t normal, it wasn’t anything that he had seen in his six hundred years of living.
"I must tell him... I must tell him—as long as that human lives, then my master would never be free." Morbius muttered to himself as he willed his legs to move in the direction that led back to Helmand.
