Chapter 125: The Girl In The Dungeon
In a dark room situated beneath the Wutherhorn manor, a distant clanging sound could be heard, along with faint snores from a guard.
A young girl sat in the darkness, shielded by a row of iron bars, the only illumination in the room came from a small rectangular hole in the wall directly above the girl’s wooden bed.
This was the dungeon of the Wutherhorn estate, the girl had short white hair and dark red eyes, she sat in complete silence as she rocked herself to sleep.
"...baby don’t cry, go to sleep now... baby don’t cry—go to sleep now." She murmured as she rocked herself back and forth, the words that came out of her mouth belonged to fond memories of her mother, memories that were long locked away.
She could hear the leaves rustling outside, the soft breeze poured into the room slowly and her hair fluttered along with it.
She had extremely good hearing, which is why she wasn’t surprised when a strange man suddenly appeared in her room. He was a very tall man, taller than most men. He possessed extremely whitish hair that flowed all the way down to his shoulders, and bluish gold eyes that made him look like an extraterrestrial creature.
She wasn’t scared, infact, it worried the young man that she now had a wide grin spread across her face after seeing him.
"Big brother!" She near screamed, pouncing on Jacob as though she’d known him for years.
"What the—! Little girl I think you have me mistaken!" Jacob felt awkward about this very young girl hugging him tightly in this manner, he looked around frantically in hopes that someone didn’t see them.
The girl laughed, she laughed so much and fell to the ground rolling around and holding her belly. "It’s okay, haha, I just say that to everyone I like." She said after gathering herself, looking at Jacob.
"Everyone you like? What do you like about me?" Jacob had a confused expression on his face, tbe girl appeared to be laid back in a manner that baffled him.
"I can tell you’re very very strong." She said as she shifted her foot from side to side and twirled her hair, if he didn’t know any better...
"Can you stop doing that, you’re making me uncomfortable." He said, moving away slightly, he didn’t want to give such a young girl the wrong impression.
"What?! I’ll have you know I’m older than I look!" Allicent said matter-of-factly. She wouldn’t let Jacob insinuate that she was a child any further.
"Well it’s obvious that you’re a vampire? so I suppose that’s true—it still doesn’t change anything." Jacob crossed his hands and turned his head away, using the small gestures to let her know his mind was made up.
Their voices echoed through the walls so loudly, Jacob wondered how the guard was still asleep.
He turned his head slightly to meet the sight of the guard with his head on the table, a robust man with a balding head, and a large stomach.
If the man wasn’t snoring, Jacob might have thought he was dead.
"Oh! Don’t you worry about him, I put him in a trance. He won’t bother us." Allicent said as she picked her nose, rubbing the mucus on her dress again, for royalty she was very much uncultured.
"A trance?"
"Yes. A trance dummy, it’s an ability only nobles of the Vampire race possess, we can command humans and weaker countries to do whatever we ask of them." She explained. "I’ve tried to do it to you multiple times already, but it didn’t work, which is why I like you."
Jacob nodded his head slowly. "Interesting, things like that don’t work on me."
"Good, then I’m right about you—tell me, why have you come to visit me?"
"Well I notice you smiled and waved at me any chance you got, so I wanted to know about that, I know it’s not just because I’m handsome." Jacob said pridefully.
"A powerful man that knows his worth, I find that very attractive." She said twirling her hair and biting her lip, both acts that made Jacob even more uncomfortable. "Well it’s like I said, I can see the flow of Qi in most creatures, but when I looked at yours... you’re the only one I have ever seen that has an endless flow—it’s literally boundless."
She had her head lowered to match the words she was spewing, she had truly never seen anything like it, but instead of fear, she felt familiarism. All her life she’d felt like she was stronger than anyone else, now she had met someone with infinite power, she wanted to be close to him at all costs.
"Well I’m glad you noticed it, but I would love for you to keep your mouth shut about it. Otherwise you wouldn’t like the consequences." Jacob threatened lightly.
"Oh heavens. You just made me wet!"
"What!?"
"Hearing you threaten me like that, it’s driving me mad with anticipation, don’t tease me big brother." Allicent said.
Her words hit Jacob like a hammer in his head, he wondered if this was how she always was, saying unhinged and uncouth things like this, no wonder she ran away from home.
"Allicent, you’re crazy." He said, his lips curling into a nervous smile.
She looked at him for a while and burst into laughter again, rolling on the floor for what seemed like the millionth time, considering the state of her dress. "I’m just joking silly! You should see the look on your face!" She said laughingly.
Jacob, however, did not find it amo using at all, but decided to change the subject.
"So why did you kill that guy during the tournament, surely you could’ve found another way to deal with him." Jacob inquired a more serious expression was written on his face now.
Allicent suddenly went quiet, as though she was pondering on the correct answer to give. She paced around the small dark room in silence until she finally settled beside Jacob and looked up him.
"He was boring me. I don’t like when people bore me—his attacks were easy and predictable, I just wanted to punish him for being weak." She explained, her eyes never straying from Jacobs’s gaze.
"Punish him for being weak? That’s not up to you though. The weak can become strong, and you’re not the Queen of the World."
"If I don’t do it, then nobody will. They will never learn if you’re soft with them." Allicent said.
Jacob was already starting to sense that there was a deep trauma here, so he decided to press no further.
"Listen, I’m willing to put a word in and get you out of here, but you have to work with me."
""I will not work with you, and I am comfortable here. I do love that you visit me though, please come and visit me more often." She beckoned, Jacob could feel the loneliness in her tone, but maybe this was one of her tricks. When it came to people like this, Jacob didn’t have a single iota if trust for them.
He had met so many of them in his past life, people who say one thing but mean another, his trust barrier was completely broken. All that was left was skepticism for most things.
"I do not need a favor from the man who put me in this place, I will make my own way when the time comes." Allicent concluded and walked towards the small hole on the wall, she wasn’t tall enough that she could see outside the hole, but she could feel the light bounce off her pale face.
She was beautiful, in a way that Jacob admired, from afar, she looked nothing like a monster, but her mind did not align with his and he had already put her in a category that made him feel absolutely nothing towards her.
Jacob had come to offer a lending hand and to get to know more than he already did about the girl, but she refused his help. All that was left was getting to actually know about each other.
For the few hours he was there, he got to know more about Allicent, where she was from, what happened to her parents.
He learned that she was part of one of the most powerful families where she came from. It was a place called Crestfall Country, she knew about six different languages and could take the shape of a select few animals.
Her talents were very unique as he hadn’t seen them anywhere else. She could control and manipulate blood, an ability that he was already aware of.
She had run away from her home because of the same reason she killed her opponent on the battle ground, boredom. She said boredom made her feel like metal was scraping against her brain, so she left in search of conquests, but all she found were more boring battles and people.
Until she set her eyes on him.
