Chapter 170: Hall Of Skills
Jacob spent a lot of time combing through the infinite shelves in the Library of Life. Thankfully no time passed on the outside so he had ample time to explore.
Every worded command took him to a different section of the Library.
"Cultivation."
The ground shifted againand he found himself standing before a new set of books, neatly lined up on the shiny shelf.
"Artifacts."
Once again, the ground shifted. He was convinced that there was no piece of information that was not available in the Library. Not a single one.
After combing though he decided he wanted to search through the other floors. There was a staircase that led upstairs.
He wanted to know what secrets the other floors held.
"Stairs." He said out loud, a command that immediately caused him to warp directly in front of the spirally staircase. He had not noticed before, but the rails of this staircase were coated entirely in gold.
The stairs themselves were made of the same clear, polished marble as the ground.
Jacob took a deep breath and walked upstairs slowly, the building was completely silent, to the point that if it wasn’t for the sound of his voice, he would have thought that he was deaf.
When he got upstairs, he found that the second floor was identical to the ground floor. There were no differences whatsoever. The walls, the shelves, the counter, the floors; they were all the same.
But something about it still felt different. Jacob walked towards the counter, every stride was graceful and calculated.
There was another piece of paper on the counter, he picked it up and read it in his mind: Welcome to the second floor of the Library of Life. You have left the Hall of Knowledge and Ascended to the Hall of Skills. Every bookshelf contains skill tomes, from any era, in any universe!
To make navigation effortless, the Host only needs to issue a command specifying the type of book they seek. The Library will instantly respond by teleporting the Host directly to the appropriate section, eliminating the need to search through countless shelves.
It was a longer note, but it was still very simple to understand, the first floor was the Hall of Knowledge, and this was the Hall of Skills. Jacob looked back at the staircase and found that the stairs still went up. Which was understandable considering how big the building looked from the outside.
Jacob looked towards the library shelves, there seemed to be no end in sight. Just like the first hall, the rows of books seemed endless.
He could still use the same command that he used before on this floor, so he decided to try it.
"Swordsmanship." He said out loud. He was immediately warped, tbe ground shifting until he stood in front of an array of books that displayed different sword arts and techniques. They were infinite.
He stayed on that row for as long as he inhumanly possible, gobbling up so much information on sword arts, copying techniques and adding them to his arsenal.
He smiled as he worked through the pages endlessly, he had nothing but time. But the books never seemed to end, the more he read, the more they appeared, eventually he decided to try a different category. The skills he had gained alone were enough to defeat any single swordsmaster in history, if he was being honest
’The description of the library in the system was so vague considering what I’ve found here.’ He mused inwardly.
As a result of Infinite Comprehension, Jacob could not only master these sword techniques, but also understand them deeply. He felt as though every word out down on the pages were of his own design.
"Alchemy." The library shuffled again, as though it had come to life. He found himself standing before another array of books.
Even though he did not have much need for alchemy as it was a natural cheat that accompanied his existence. He still found himself drawn to books on this subject.
Based on the knowledge and understanding gained from these books. He was able to perfectly brew something called the Elixir Of Life. A potion that will instantly revive any living thing within thirty minutes of death.
He was also able to develop some buff potions, body tempering medicines explosive bombs, and a plethora of other things. All safely tucked within this storage space.
Not a blink passed by in the real world but Jacob spent weeks in the Library of Life. He neither felt hungry.
The only thing he was hungry for was knowledge, knowledge of the things he did not know. Knowledge of the things he was still to know. Jacob tried his best to not leave any stone unturned. But it was an infinite library, which meant that there was no end. Much as he tried to consume.
He studied several other skills for long hours at a time. Skills that included Archery, magic, spearmanship, beast taming, smithing... even music and painting.
There were so many to choose from. He had gotten so lost diving into this sea of books, he almost forgot there was a whole other floor to explore.
By the time he was done with these skills, he was sure about being the number one soldier in the entire world. He could beat anyone in a sword fight, most mages would not be able to withstand him. He had never attempted to tame a beast before, but he was certain that he could take even the most ferocious of them all.
There were still two more floors ti explore. So Jacob started towards the third floor, he had enough time to visit the Library of Life even after this, so there was no rush to gobble up every single piece of information in one go.
Even though he had infinite comprehension and total recall, he still feared overloading his brain, a natural instinct given he was human as well.
After a moment of pondering, he took a deep breath and walked up the stairs.
