Chapter 160: Luck… Or Not
The halls of the castle were dark as Joe Joe tip toed through them, the air was damp and the walls smelled of burning rock.
He dodged everytime a demon soldier walked by but was uncertain of how long he would be able to continue to do so.
He finally reached the end of the hall and stood in front of two large twin doors. After seeing there was no one there, he put his ears to the door, constantly searching behind him.
He was surprised at how a place as large as this could seem so empty.
There was a door to the right, and another to the left. But it was also uncertain where those led to.
As a spy, he would certainly possess a skill, but that also consumed a sufficient amount of Qi, and would ultimately lead to him being detected.
He shuffled his feet as quietly as possible and near dived into the room on the left.
Thankfully it was filled with only artifacts and sculptures that weren’t arranged in any particular order.
Infact, they looked as though they were supposed to be that way, scattered. Some were even broken. There room looked something similar to a rage room. A place where the demon king could come and just take his anger out in inanimate objects.
As Joe Joe crouched behind the door, the footsteps grew louder, he put his ear to the door, but he could not see much. He couldn’t see that it was Morbius walking down the dimly lit hallway.
Morbius’ steps were uncertain but he could not ignore a summons from his master.
Joe Joe heard a knock on the large twin doors through the room he stood in.
The doors opened and whoever it was standing in the hallway walked into the room.
Suddenly, he could hear voices, but they were muffled, one of them was louder than the other, but as much as he strained his ears, he could not hear what they spoke of.
He had to come out of that room and put his ear to the door to hear properly.
The reason there were no servants moving around the castle and it seemed very empty was that the Demon King killed his own subordinates for sport.
Something that Xani had neglected to inform Joe Joe about.
There was also the worry that the demon king already knew he was already in Helmand or the castle.
The hallways were still empty when Joe Joe stepped out, closing the door behind him as quietly as possible.
The demon king was very powerful, even the slightest use of his techniques would be detected instantly, and from the voices he heard through the door, he had gotten lucky and picked the correct path.

"Morbius! I have finally done it." The demon king said triumphantly as his voice bounced off the walls. "My creation is complete!"
"I am glad master, now we can take on the elder covenant and show those good for nothings that no one can stop you." Morbius replied, his voice also mirroring the triumphant tone.
"Patience Morbius, first we must test my creation. Destro here is a revolutionary device, one that will shake the world above. If only that boy does not get in my way."
The giant, grotesque monster stepped out, to his physical attributes there were no changes, but it was obvious with how the monster was moving that tweaks had been made.
"There is is!" The demon king spoke again.
There were tubes with blue sap flowing through them passed through different points of Destro’s body, the monster’s eyes were closed. When it opened them, its eyeballs were completely black.
"You have outdone yourself master, the covenant won’t know what hit them for sure." Morbius said as he inched closer to the tall hunk of a creature, inspecting it slowly with his eyes, marvelling at the sheer structure and engineering.
The demon king was more than just an entity, he was also an avid researcher and a voracious reader, traits that had helped his expand his knowledge on the sciences, and machinery.
Which was why he experimented on anything he could lay his hands on, like the humans that Joe Joe saw in that room.

Joe Joe listened as both parties spoke back and forth within the room, he could not believe all the information he was getting.
From the different topics they spoke about, the voices were unmistakable, that was the demon king, and whoever was in the room with him must have been who he sent to collect the essence of the world tree. The demon general, Morbius.
They spoke extensively on the plan to use the sap from the world tree, fused with the Demon king’s essence to dominate the above world after unsealing him from Helmand.
Joe Joe smiled as he could it believe how easy it was that he was able to gather all this information,
He might not have to spend two weeks in Helmand after all, he had finally gotten what he came for, with almost no effort whatsoever.
He thought to pass by the dungeons when he was leaving to see if Ruen was still alive, he would try to save the man at any cost. If he was still alive, then he would have a more decent life on the above world than being left to rot in the dungeons, his flesh decaying until he ultimately turned to ash and bones.
Just as Joe Joe was about to tip toe away, he heard a sentence that made him freeze in his tracks.
"But there is an impending matter than we need to take care of right now." The demon king said. Joe Joe wondered what the matter was, his curiousity ultimately got the better of him.
The moment he turned his back to listen further, the large twin doors swung open so hard, the breeze almost flung him backwards.
He was suddenly exposed to the Demon King’s chamber, coming face to face with two larger, grotesque demons. One way bigger and uglier than the other.
