Chapter 164: Qin Wenhao Comes to Pick Up His Wife
Fu Mingxue nodded and immediately rode off on her bicycle.
She didn’t have the time or the obligation to explain her personal problems to him.
As she reached the factory gates, she spotted a figure waiting outside.
’He looked awfully familiar.’ "—Qin Wenhao?"
Qin Wenhao answered, "It’s me."
Fu Mingxue hurriedly hit the brakes. "What are you doing here?"
She immediately realized she’d asked a pointless question. "Are you here to pick me up?"
Qin Wenhao nodded. "Yes."
He was on leave for a few days.
’Since she was working the night shift, of course he had to come and pick her up.’
’Fu Mingxue had been about to say he didn’t need to come, that she could get home on her own.’
’But he’d already come all this way. Saying that now would just seem ungrateful.’
She got off her bicycle and asked casually, "Did you walk here?"
"Yes." Qin Wenhao naturally took the bicycle from her. He swung one leg over the frame and, bracing himself with his other foot on the ground, gestured for her to get on the back.
Fu Mingxue quickly climbed on.
Once Qin Wenhao saw she was settled, he pushed off with one foot, and the bicycle shot forward a good distance.
Just as they were riding away, Xu Ming happened to be coming out and saw the whole thing.
’He had thought Fu Mingxue was just bluffing earlier. He never expected she was actually married, or that her husband would come pick her up after her shift.’
Swallowing his disappointment, he headed toward the dorms—
──
Fu Mingxue sat on the rear rack, not saying a word.
’In truth, she didn’t know what to say.’
’Though, sitting on the back of the bike, she figured she’d rather be pedaling herself.’
’At least if she were pedaling herself, her butt wouldn’t have to suffer.’
Just then, Qin Wenhao spoke up. "I’m going into town tomorrow. Is there anything you need?"
Fu Mingxue jumped, startled by his sudden voice.
"—No, I don’t need anything right now."
Then she remembered something. "Has the package we sent from Beijing City arrived?"
"That’s right. I’m going to pick up the package tomorrow. If there’s anything else you want to buy, I can get it for you then."
"Just getting the package is fine. I don’t have anything I need to buy."
"All right, then." Qin Wenhao didn’t press the issue.
’Anyway, if he saw something worth buying tomorrow, he would just get it.’
He then tried to find another topic of conversation.
’But he really had no experience interacting with women and had no idea what to ask.’
After wracking his brain for a while, he finally managed to squeeze out a question: "—So, is work going well?"
"It’s fine." Whether her work was going well or not wasn’t something she could elaborate on.
Those two words immediately killed the conversation.
Qin Wenhao: ...?
Fortunately, the journey wasn’t too long.
They arrived soon after.
Fu Mingxue quickly got off the bike.
The door was unlocked, so she pushed it open and went inside.
This time, her mother-in-law didn’t make a sound.
Qin Wenhao, who had followed her in while pushing the bicycle, said, "I told Mom not to get up. How about some dumplings tonight?"
"There’s no need, I’m not hungry." Fu Mingxue had eaten a lot that evening, so she wasn’t very hungry at the moment.
She went to take a shower first.
Unexpectedly, just as she came out and was about to head back to her room, she saw Qin Wenhao approaching with a bowl of freshly cooked dumplings.
"Have some," he said. "Mom made these earlier tonight. You should try them."
Fu Mingxue hadn’t wanted to eat, but now, seeing the steaming hot dumplings, she felt her appetite return.
"I can’t eat all this. Get a bowl and I’ll share some with you—"
"No need. Just leave whatever you don’t finish," Qin Wenhao said casually.
’He didn’t think eating his wife’s leftovers was any big deal.’
’After all, they had become a real husband and wife just last night.’
