Chapter 449 - 389: Simple Trial (Part 2)
No one wanted to die.
The group rested outside Orinburg, with Flora Bloom’s team resting on the Juggernaut. Ten people were left on guard. Although Vert had a better vantage point from the sky, you could never be too careful.
Soon, day broke.
But in truth, aside from Flora Bloom’s original team, no one had slept well—not Sepherdine’s people who had been integrated into her group, nor the team members of Quinn, Seth Warren, and Shawn Hale.
This was especially true for the fifty ordinary people, whose anxiety had left them with dark circles under their eyes.
The airport was the closest landmark to Orinburg’s gates and a vital hub for air transport. Because of this, Flora Bloom believed it was the first place they needed to secure.
The six-hundred-person team, with Flora Bloom’s Juggernaut at the lead, rolled down the main airport road like a tank.
For some unknown reason, the last time they were at Orinburg Airport, the zombies in the terminal had been completely unwilling to come out.
But now, the horde of zombies nearly filled the entire runway.
The bird droppings on the ground were even more dried out than during their last visit, and there were no new ones. This suggested that no birds had come to Orinburg since that day.
Flora Bloom suspected that on the day of the Golden Crow’s fiery rebirth, the great gathering of birds in the sky had summoned every last bird from a hundred-mile radius.
Still, the absence of birds was a good thing. At least the skies were temporarily safe, which would allow their team to clear the airport more quickly.
The Juggernaut had smashed a hole in the airport’s perimeter wall during their last visit, and the large group now entered through this gap.
The Juggernaut went first, its massive body acting like a moving wall that plowed straight into the zombie horde.
Neal Wallace, Five, Yan Yan, and Sonny Porter stood with Flora Bloom on the J’uggernaut’s back, unleashing a torrent of wind and fire on the front ranks of the zombies.
In an instant, the front line of First and Second Level zombies was reduced to charred corpses, collapsing to the ground, motionless.
’Why didn’t I bring the three monkey brothers with me?’ Flora Bloom was now filled with regret. ’They could be on the front lines cracking skulls and digging out Crystal Cores for me.’
Crystal Cores were exactly what her team lacked right now.
’She wanted everything that could enhance their superpowers!’
However, as soon as the front line of zombies fell, the horde behind them surged forward to fill the gap.
The control and fire-power teams were perfectly safe on the Juggernaut’s back. They effortlessly eliminated the small waves of zombies that approached.
Just then, the Locke siblings jumped down from the Juggernaut.
"Annelise! You two!"
"Flora, don’t worry. We don’t have ranged superpowers, and real combat is the only way to improve our strength. Besides, we’re practically immune to the zombie virus. We’ll be fine."
Before the apocalypse, Orinburg Airport saw a daily passenger flow of about ten to twenty thousand people.
Combined with the airport staff—pilots, flight attendants, and so on—every single one of them had become a zombie after the apocalypse, with no exceptions.
A horde of ten to twenty thousand zombies was no longer an astronomical number for Flora Bloom and her people. They had already faced hordes of over ten thousand twice. So, after this initial skirmish, it was time to test the other superpower users.
Flora Bloom had the Juggernaut charge into the zombie horde with her and her core team, deliberately breaking up the horde and letting them stream past toward the superpower users cowering behind them.
Though they had grown soft after a long period of peace in Morhaven, most of the superpower users still reacted quickly and joined the fray.
Fire Element and Wind Element superpowers flew everywhere. It was a spectacular sight, but very few actually struck a zombie’s vital spots.
Flora Bloom hadn’t expected this. ’The apocalypse has been going on for months,’ she thought. ’How are the combat methods of these superpower users—all at least Second Level—still so crude?’
And so, these people unleashed their superpowers on the horde. After one barrage, they finally managed to take down the zombies in front of them. However, they had also depleted more than half of their own spiritual power.
Flora Bloom led several dozen people down from the Juggernaut and began cracking open the skulls of the dead zombies to dig out their Crystal Cores.
When the superpower users who had depleted most of their spiritual power saw Flora Bloom’s group doing this, they feared their share would be stolen and scrambled to start digging for Crystal Cores themselves.
’We’re all superpower users,’ Flora Bloom thought, ’but I know that given my position, very few of them will listen if I point out their combat flaws.’
Just then, a white light flashed repeatedly around Saul Sterling’s body. After a brief exchange with Lex Cross and a few others, Lex Cross led a team and charged straight for the terminal building, where a horde of over a thousand zombies still remained.
