Chapter 448 - 389: A Simple Trial
Aside from the Defense Team, Flora Bloom formed another team by assigning twenty of the fifty people to it. This team included Fire Element users Neal Wallace, Yan Yan, and Sonny Porter; Wind Element user Five; and the Beast Type siblings, Annelise Locke and Jack Locke. Neal Wallace was appointed captain.
Flora Bloom also distributed weapons enhanced by a Gold Ability User to these twenty individuals, telling them to get familiar with their new gear and figure out how to maximize its potential.
After all, ordinary people couldn’t handle weapons with the same skill and precision as superpower users. Plus, they had no combat experience whatsoever.
Next was the Maneuver Team, with Lex Cross himself as the leader. Its members consisted of all the special forces soldiers except for Five, Nolan Jennings, and Saul Sterling. Their primary responsibility was to find the leader zombie within the horde and eliminate it.
The Control Team was composed of Plant-type users Cynthia Grant, Lucille Underwood, and Milo Lynch; Nolan Jennings; Ice Element user Tianna Bloom; and Spiritual Ability user Caleb. Flora Bloom also stuffed the remaining thirty ordinary people into this group. Each was equipped with a gun, and Lex Cross and a few others had held a crash course overnight to teach them how to shoot.
Upon arriving outside Orinburg, Isla Preston and the two Middle Level zombies had already entered the city to carry out the special mission Flora Bloom had assigned them.
That left Flora Bloom and Saul Sterling as the overall commanders for this battle.
Saul Sterling’s deductive ability, needless to say, was key to battlefield strategy. He could inform everyone of the zombies’ distribution and locations in advance, allowing them to prepare. His coordination with Lex Cross’s Maneuver Team was especially critical.
Flora Bloom, on the other hand, had the most freedom of anyone. You could say she was the most idle, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But if you were to call her useless, you’d be mistaken. In truth, her role was second in importance only to Shauna Wallace.
Flora Bloom had placed Shauna Wallace, a Healing System user, in the Defense Team with Ethan Monroe to treat anyone who got injured.
However, Shauna Wallace’s superpower had a limited range; her spiritual power restricted her to healing specific individuals within a twenty-meter radius. Flora Bloom, on the other hand, was responsible for protecting every single person who might get injured on the periphery, ensuring they received treatment at critical moments.
This wasn’t a role just anyone could handle. It was only because her spiritual power was immense, her defensive power was formidable, her offense was powerful, and she even had a bug-like ability to "vanish in the face of danger."
Flora Bloom, along with Cynthia Grant, Jade, and a few others, distributed the food and water. Each person received a portion of one meat dish, two vegetable dishes, and a piece of fruit, with unlimited rice.
Although it didn’t seem like much per person, for six hundred people, the amount of food took up a huge amount of space. This made everyone outside of Flora Bloom’s team extremely envious.
’If only we had someone with a Space Ability on our team, too!’
If Jade weren’t Flora Bloom’s mother, everyone present probably would have been unable to resist poaching her for their own teams on the spot.
Moreover, Flora Bloom’s team possessed such an abundance of supplies. Staples like rice were far more precious than meat in present-day Morhaven. And fruits, which were practically unseen in the apocalypse, seemed to be a commonplace item for Flora Bloom.
As they watched the food appear item by item from Jade’s hands, some among the six hundred people began to harbor devious thoughts.
But when they looked at the silhouette of the behemoth lying across the entrance of Orinburg, the thoughts that had just been stirred up were instantly extinguished.
No wonder a base leader like Sepherdine had entrusted his people to Flora Bloom’s command. With such strength and reserves, Sepherdine clearly placed immense trust in her.
’If it were us, we’d be willing too!’
After dinner, following a discussion, everyone decided to enter Orinburg at dawn and clear it out, zone by zone.
Among the six hundred people, the superpower users in Flora Bloom’s team had the highest levels, so it was unanimously decided that her team would take the lead while the others provided support.
How could Flora Bloom not know what they were thinking? With a bulldozer like the behemoth in the front line, they would only need to pick off the stragglers from behind.
"I have no objections."
Just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, the joyful smiles on their faces were shattered by Flora Bloom’s next words.
"In that case, for our cleanup plan, let’s distribute the zombie Crystal Cores based on contribution. Whoever makes the kill gets the core. I assume no one has a problem with that?"
Everyone on Flora Bloom’s team now had an immense desire to raise their Superpower Levels. Previously, their attitude toward strength had been casual—they’d level up if the opportunity arose, but as long as they could win their fights, it was good enough.
But now, after learning about the future of the Earth, an unparalleled will to survive had ignited in everyone’s heart.
