Chapter 185: Limited System Storage
By the time that Kalli had made the loop around the compound, the System was unhappy with her again.
{System Points Cap Reached} Please purchase improvements immediately, excess points will only be stored for 24 hours.
With all the extra heroes here, Kalli had forgotten how fast the points would add up from an Epic Grade completion quest. And they were likely going to get more than one today, which meant that she was going to have to completely empty her points reserve upgrading the city.
And then do it again, or she would be over limit.
She could build more of the same buildings, creating a matched residential area. That would take up around 32,000 points per building. But that wasn’t going to help them defend the city.
The other option would be to start adding {Air Defence Battery} emplacements on the rooftops, which would burn points, but also add heavy load to the power grid.
With the capacitor in place, they should be able to fire up to ten of the guns fairly steadily.
However, that would only have a limited level of effectiveness, and the guns caused massive damage to the surrounding landscape. They were hoping to develop this area in the future, so she didn’t really want to blast it into a cratered hellscape if she could avoid it.
But what other options did she have?
There were already too many enemies surrounding the city, and she didn’t have any resources that would help her rebuild the countryside.
So, the options were essentially to destroy everything in range, or to put everyone’s lives at risk.
If there were fewer enemies, they could send out mobile teams with vehicles. But during a wave like this, it simply wasn’t safe to try to deploy anything outside the gates.
Except maybe Esmeralda’s undead force.
Kalli could see that they had almost all been replaced at this point. The only original was the Crocolisk that she was currently riding, and the rest were all zombies from the most recent waves.
That was the right attitude to have, Kalli thought. The monsters were getting more powerful every wave, so it was best to upgrade to the best quality undead that she could obtain and control.
Zombie Ogres were much more impressive than her original skeletons, quite intimidating. They might also be useful for heavy labour once the battle was over, but that was up to Esmeralda.
Kalli examined the map that the Professor had given her, and saw that there was a request for a recreation facility in the middle of the buildings.
That would be a good one to try next.
Kalli didn’t know how much detail she could put into the buildings, as it only specified them as broad categories. It did let her set the interior themes of the apartments to some extent, though.
Within the design theme that she chose for the building, anyhow.
Kalli put a note on the screen, telling the runners that she went to build a rec centre, and equipped her Flight Suit.
From above, she could get a better idea of what the area needed, and when she set the footprint for a commercial building four stories tall and four of what the System considered standard units in size, she found the options to furnish it.
One of them was "Multi Use Sports Facility" at 5,000 points.
Another was "Enhanced Multi Use Recreation Facility" at 20,000 points.
The answer was obvious.
{Enhanced Multi Use Recreation Facility Under Construction}
The building erected itself out of nothing, like the previous buildings had. But this time she got to watch it firsthand, and that was so much more fun.
The building was as large as a standard sports stadium, but Kalli could see that inside, it was much different. There was a large sports field, or open area, inside. But the majority was split into smaller sections.
There was a pool, sauna, water park, grav ball courts, a running track, and a set of vendor stalls set up to make fast food, complete with basic kitchens.
She still had a lot of points, though.
So, Kalli began adding more buildings according to the plan that the Professor had made.
Once she had a total of ten erected, she got a message from the System.
{Excess Points Depleted}
And then a second message.
{Improve Underground Infrastructure?} 2000 Points.
Kalli paid the points and assumed that something had changed, as she couldn’t see any difference in the before and after. Once she was back on her computer in the Hall of Heroes, she should be able to see the city’s plans, but not from her flight suit.
Now, Marimgar was starting to look like a real city on one side of the Academy walls, but Kalli still had too many points left, so she built another six buildings extending toward the east side of the Academy.
Now, she was nearly out of points, under a hundred thousand left.
But instead of making more buildings, she decided that it was time to add some more military upgrades to the city. Four more {Air Defence Battery} emplacements were added on top of residential buildings, and then another surge capacitor was added to the power plant to deal with the added heavy weapons batteries.
{High Voltage Surge Capacitor} Maximum flow rate 400 megawatts. Storage: 1 megawatt hour
{Cost} 10,000 Points
That burned a lot of points, but now the guns wouldn’t cause power surges even if they happened to all pull the trigger at the same time.
Then, she decided that there was one more thing that needed to be added.
The roof of the rec centre was covered in solar panels, and Kalli searched through her building options until she found the additional structure that she needed.
A {Power Storage Unit} for the solar could hold 1 megawatt hour per point.
It was insanely, ridiculously cheap. So, she paid for a thousand points worth. That was a whole hour worth of output from their main reactor, or enough storage that it would take them weeks to fill it using solar, even with perfect sunlight.
But it would fill, and they could use the extra to keep the city running if something happened to the reactor, or if they had to go overboard with energy weapons.
