Reluctantly, Kalli went outside the walls and picked a nice spot behind the shopping centre to place the {Small Reactor Power Plant}.

The building looked unassuming, a simply synthetic concrete dome with a chain link safety fence around it.

But when Kalli saw what it had made, she was in shock.

That wasn’t a mana-powered unit like the generator. That was a stabilized antimatter reactor. It would run for a thousand years without being refuelled, and power most of a hive city’s lower district.

The reactor was considered "Small" at one Gigawatt of constant maximum output. But that was only small when you were measuring the usage of a hive city where hover cars had battery packs holding a megawatt hour of electricity, and the buildings used electromagnetic levitation rails for heavy transports.

Even if they had saved half of Marimgar, and upgraded it to this standard, that reactor would be enough to fully power the survivors, with some headroom for heavy industry.

For now, they could cook in every suite, run the lights, computers, climate control, and anything else that they needed, or had available.

Their upgrades this time really were large.

Out of curiosity, Kalli returned to the hall of heroes, and found that it was completely unchanged. Everything in there was exactly as she left it, so the upgrade from level 0 to level 1 was nothing more than bringing the technology of this world up to the standard of her own world.

Really, the changes weren’t that large.

Most of what they had was already possible in this world, it simply wasn’t mainstream or mass-produced.

Now, it was.

Kalli quickly scrolled through the listings, and found that none of the top-end stuff had changed. But the lower end medieval weaponry and basic supplies had all been upgraded to use advanced alloys, increasing its armour values and damage.

A 1 point monomolecular edged sword could do as much damage as a laser rifle, a 25 Percent increase on all the cheapest items.

The real differences were in the household goods section.

Advanced thermal clothing, automated cookers, temperature regulating blankets, floor cleaning drones. All the basic necessities of comfortable living were now available.

But before buying any of it, she needed to see what the rooms in the new towers looked like.

While her world had a lot of technology, not everyone had luxurious living conditions. Her own apartment was under 30 square metres, barely large enough for a bed and a table. There was no need for all the fancy technology, she didn’t have room to use it anyhow.

The best she could do was a frying pan on a hot plate and a rice cooker.

Not that she ate at home much, her job paid her very well, and she could afford to eat at restaurants. What she couldn’t afford was to have local authorities looking into her cash flow.

Not with the generous cash bonuses she received after being called for emergency server protection and maintenance events at the company.

With the new power plant placed, Kalli sent out a message to the people of Marimgar using the Academy’s app.

{Attention all residents. The new power plant is placed. Electrical supply is sufficient for all current needs. Please feel comfortable testing the amenities of your buildings.}

Then, she headed for the dorm building to pick herself a new room.

Only to find that it had been done for her.

At the entrance, the familiar stairway was gone, replaced with a large spiral staircase that led up to a mezzanine level, and a door at the top labelled with her name. It had been surrounded by balloons, as if today was her birthday, and the heroes who had gathered in the lobby on the main floor were waiting with eager expressions for her to step inside.

Why they thought that the spot right at the top of the stairs was her most desired location was a mystery, but Kalli was willing to go with it, since they’d already decorated the place.

"Alright, let’s see what this new building looks like," she called out to the spectators.

The group followed her up the stairs, and Kalli swung open the door to the sort of luxury suite that would have made even her old boss jealous.

High-end furniture decorated the rooms, a butler robot stood in the corner, looking like a white cylinder when its appendages and tools were retracted, and the floors were some sort of polished stone that she couldn’t identify.

The suite was only one bedroom, but the common area was huge, and the total area had to be over a hundred square metres.

Far larger than her old dorm room had been.

"Why do I get the feeling that I’ve gotten the dorm supervisor’s room?" Kalli asked idly as she examined the pure opulence of her new residence.

"That’s not a bad guess as to what the suite was intended to be.

It might even be correct.

The reason that you’re here is that we didn’t have another person to put in it, and it would have caused fights if we picked one of the team leaders.

So, we gave it to you."

Kalli laughed. "And what about the other buildings?"

"The other buildings have a three bedroom guest suite in this location. There are four of them on this floor, but for some reason, this unit is only a single bedroom."

Could it be because that was where her room was, and she hadn’t actually intended to move?

It wouldn’t be the strangest thing that the System had done.

Then Kalli noticed a small detail that she thought everyone else had likely overlooked as well.

The screens on the walls weren’t televisions. They were system linked touchscreens, and the one in the living room was currently displaying her system status as a home screen.

Once she started to link additional functions through her devices, they would have full access to the Academy’s mainframe and the message boards directly from their apartments.

You could now leave messages for others to find when they got home, and browse the Library’s prodigious collection of digital media.
