Chapter 520: So It Was All a Misunderstanding, Part 1
Then Annabelle Linton was knocked to the ground. Vivian Yates and that male student showed up, feigning concern. Annabelle insisted she was fine and tried to keep walking.
Vivian Yates suddenly shoved the person next to her, who then bumped into Annabelle Linton and knocked her over. Annabelle badly sprained her ankle, and her clothes were dirty.
Then, one of the girls with them told Annabelle Linton to give the gift to Vivian Yates, so she could help deliver it to me.
Annabelle had intended to wait a few days and deliver it herself. But then, a few girls, who Vivian Yates had arranged to be there beforehand, started chirping away, pressuring Annabelle and calling her a hypocrite. When Vivian added a few crocodile tears to the act, Annabelle finally gave her the Phantom. Afterward, that same male student took her to the hospital.
Vivian Yates and her friends were laughing all the way to the party. Vivian presented the Phantom to me, claiming it was her gift. I was surprised, but for some reason, I didn’t feel happy at all.
I felt that strange unhappiness for the rest of the banquet. When it ended, I saw the same student who had knocked Annabelle Linton down at the entrance, trying to force a kiss on her while talking about some promise.
I was furious. I kicked the guy to the ground and started to walk away without a word. Annabelle Linton rushed forward to explain, but I shoved her to the ground, yelling, "You’re disgusting! Don’t touch me!"
Annabelle Linton cried for a long, long time...
Meanwhile, Vivian Yates stood in a corner, exchanging smirks and knowing glances with the student who had knocked Annabelle Linton down.
And just like that, I hurt Annabelle Linton. The Phantom she had bought for me was now credited to Vivian Yates.]
Reading this, Annabelle Linton covered her mouth, her face filled with disbelief. ’Yes, that’s how it was. That’s exactly how it happened!’
’Vivian Yates hired people to trick me into giving her the Phantom!’
Her hands trembled slightly as she turned to the next page.
[A flash of white light erased everything before my eyes, and I found myself in a different scene.
The setting was my kidnapping when I was nineteen. I have no memory of it in real life, but the dream laid out the entire process in perfect clarity.
I had been kidnapped. Annabelle Linton, disguised as a food delivery person, untied my bonds. I grabbed her hand and we sprinted away, with a whole group of people chasing us from behind.
Annabelle was exhausted and couldn’t run anymore. Gasping for breath, she told me to go on without her. She said she had a plan with Vivian Yates; Vivian was going to call the police, so she’d be fine.
Just as she said that, the kidnappers caught up and opened fire without a word. Annabelle shoved me out of the way, taking all the bullets herself. I was unharmed. If it wasn’t for her, I’m certain I would have been killed.
Then, police sirens sounded, and all the kidnappers fled. I carried Annabelle Linton and ran until I ran into Vivian Yates. Vivian asked me what happened to Annabelle. I told her she’d been shot and that we had to save her.
We got on an ambulance, and the paramedics started treating Annabelle. I stood by her side, begging her not to die, promising that I would marry her if she survived.
But just then, Vivian Yates said, "I’m sorry," and then, unbelievably, she stuck me with a syringe.
I lost consciousness. From the sidelines, Vivian Yates directed the paramedics to erase my memories of Annabelle saving me. It was a rather complex process, using a combination of hallucinogens and hypnosis.
And just like that, they wiped my memory.
Then, Vivian Yates called Mrs. Yates to ask what to do with Annabelle Linton—kill her or spare her. Mrs. Yates, afraid it could be traced back to them, decided not to have her killed. Instead, she used Annabelle’s stepmother to persuade her father, and they sent Annabelle to another city. There, they used artificial means to put Annabelle into a coma that lasted for a full year.
When I woke up, I knew nothing. Vivian Yates and her mother had already tricked my family into believing that Vivian was the one who saved me, while Annabelle had cowardly run away out of fear.
