Leona Grant took a few deep breaths and knocked gently on the door a few times, steadying his emotions.

No answer.

’Still sulking?’

’Alright, I’ll let it slide since you’re so cute.’

He continued to knock.

After about a minute of continuous knocking, there was still no sound from inside.

’Is she not in?’

’But Madam King said she was.’

Madam King: "..."

Leona Grant’s brow furrowed, his expression darkening. "Annabelle Linton," he said, displeased, "open the door. I need to talk to you."

"..."

Still, there was no response from inside.

Leona Grant let out a breath, telling himself to be patient. Who could he blame? His family adored her.

’I have to be a good son.’

He said patiently, "Come on, open up. It’s about Grandpa."

"..."

Leona Grant scoffed, his eyes flashing with anger. He decided to lay a guilt trip on Annabelle Linton. "Aren’t you always going on about ’Grandpa, Grandpa’? Well, Grandpa wants to see you. Get your things and come out immediately. We’re leaving now."

He didn’t give the person inside a chance to reply. He walked into the adjacent room, sat on the bed, and quietly lit a cigarette.

Time ticked by. Leona Grant gave her plenty of time, figuring that it took a while for a woman to get ready to go out—getting dressed, doing makeup, and all that was time-consuming.

He ended up waiting for more than forty minutes, the floor around him littered with cigarette butts.

During those forty minutes, he did some serious thinking.

’...He’d been too impulsive that day.’

’Annabelle Linton hadn’t said a thing. He was the one who had jumped to conclusions, insisting there was something going on between them.’

’In truth... it was because he was jealous.’

’He was jealous of how much Annabelle Linton cared for Aaron Wyatt. She had never even given him a proper look, yet she had been moping for days over Aaron Wyatt.’

’And when he had finally swallowed his pride and gone to her, she was asleep and calling out Aaron Wyatt’s name. It had really infuriated him.’

’He couldn’t believe it—that she was thinking of Aaron Wyatt even in her dreams, feeling so guilty toward him.’

’The guilt must be because she can’t marry him.’

’Then he started wondering if she was going to see him again, if the two of them would continue to have lingering ties, if there would be no place for him in her heart for the rest of her life. He got so anxious and angry that he didn’t hear a single word Annabelle Linton said.’

’Then, in the middle of the argument, she actually said she wanted to divorce him?!’

’He’d exploded on the spot.’

’Thinking about it now, he really shouldn’t have done that.’

Leona Grant suddenly remembered the dream he’d had when he was unconscious.

Although it was a dream, and it was hard to tell if it was real, in that dream, Aaron Wyatt had risked being burned to death to save Annabelle Linton.

He, on the other hand, had saved Vivian Yates. Based on that alone, it was only natural for Annabelle Linton to like Aaron Wyatt.

It was just like how he’d once thought Vivian Yates was great, back when she took credit for something Annabelle Linton had done.

’But he had to admit, Aaron Wyatt really was... gentler and more likable than him.’

’Hmph. But so what? Annabelle Linton is still his, isn’t she?’

Leona Grant couldn’t resist making a little justification for himself.

Vivian Yates... At the thought of her, a sharp glint flashed in Leona Grant’s eyes.

’To think she’d dare to just disappear. Once his hands are free, he’ll make that woman wish she were dead!’

He snapped back to the present. ’Sigh... Annabelle Linton probably really does like Aaron Wyatt. After all, his sacrifices weren’t stolen.’

Leona Grant sat dejectedly on the bed for another twenty minutes before finally getting up.

’Forget it. I should look at this rationally. No matter whose fault it is, Annabelle Linton and I are husband and wife now, and we’re not getting a divorce. So what’s the point of being so suspicious all the time?’

’All this overthinking is pointless. It’s better to just live a normal life together.’

’I’m the husband. What’s wrong with backing down for my own wife?’

’A wife is meant to be spoiled.’
