’He was as handsome as ever, but today... he seemed a little angry...’

Quentin Holland wore a slim-fit, plaid suit with black ankle-length trousers, his expression blank as he walked toward her.

His face was undeniably handsome, in the same league as Leona Grant and Aaron Wyatt.

But while Leona was cold and Aaron was warm, he... projected an air of nonchalant indifference.

All in all, the feeling he gave off was somewhat similar to Leona’s, yet not entirely. Their auras, however, were on the same level.

’That face, as noble and chiseled as a statue... a godly professor, indeed...’

’Oh, right,’ Annabelle Linton remembered now. ’Mr. Holland is supposedly from a royal family. Something about being related to the royalty of Country V. In any case, his family is extremely wealthy and holds a prominent position.’

Annabelle Linton knew of Country V. It was a very powerful nation with advanced industry and technology, much like Albion. Both were constitutional monarchies with a hereditary system of succession.

However, a schism had apparently occurred over twenty years ago, and now two major families were locked in a struggle, both open and covert.

One of these great families was the Norths, and the other... she’d forgotten its name, something like Valerius.

She’d heard that according to the laws of succession, a member of the Norths was supposed to ascend the throne. But then the heir apparently vanished, and the Valerius family seized the opportunity to rise. The two sides had been fighting ever since, with both claiming to be in the right, and for twenty years, they’d failed to settle who gets the crown.

And the country really was remarkably similar to Albion. Succession to the throne wasn’t restricted by gender; it was apparently based on some kind of noble bloodline?

’Now that’s interesting.’

The higher one’s position, the greater the pressure they must endure.

In that moment, Annabelle Linton was grateful. She was grateful to be an ordinary person.

She glanced back at Mr. Holland. He was very handsome.

’But... I still think my husband is more handsome.’

Watching Quentin Holland approach, Annabelle Linton curved her lips into a smile and greeted him, "Mr. Holland, it’s been a while."

Quentin Holland stopped beside Annabelle Linton, placed a hand on her shoulder, and leaned down to meet her gaze. He raised an eyebrow expressionlessly and said in a slow drawl, "My dear junior, you’re so late, you might as well have not come at all, hm?"

Although his hand looked like it was resting lightly on her shoulder, Annabelle Linton could feel a strange pressure bearing down on her.

’Ah... that kind of hurts...’

Annabelle Linton met his gaze for a moment, then broke into an appeasing smile. "Mr. Holland, the traffic was terrible. Just terrible."

"Is that so?"

"Absolutely."

"Absolutely..."

Quentin Holland mulled over the word. Suddenly, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and he said harshly, "I ought to dissect you just to see what’s going on in that head of yours! You agreed so readily back then, but when the time came, your phone was unreachable. Did you expect me to come and invite you personally?"

Annabelle Linton gave a dry laugh. "I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare."

A storm brewed in Quentin Holland’s cold, dead eyes. "If you hadn’t shown up today, I’d have blown you to bits with a cannon tomorrow, believe it or not! I’ve waited for years, and you dare to stand me up?"

Annabelle Linton silently wiped a bead of sweat from her brow.

Mr. Holland had indeed taken great care of her back then. She owed her doctorate in medicine to him. You could say that half of Annabelle Linton’s current achievements in the medical field were thanks to him.

’He’s a good person... but he has an absolutely terrible temper!’

’It’s definitely on par with Leona Grant’s, though their breaking points are different.’

That was why she had to fight tooth and nail to get here today.

’Oh god, thank goodness I made it. If I hadn’t been able to come...’

’The consequences would have been unimaginable!’

Annabelle Linton smiled faintly, a hint of sycophancy in her tone. "Mr. Holland, what are you saying? I’m here now, aren’t I? I already told you, it was unforeseen circumstances. Unforeseen! Things beyond my control. How could I possibly stand you up?"
