Chapter 579: He is My Husband 3
Well, this was awkward...
’How am I going to explain this to Mr. Holland?’
’Should I tell him I was afraid Leona Grant would be rude to them, so I didn’t invite them?’
’No, no, no, no, no. That explanation definitely wouldn’t work.’
Leona Grant pursed his lips, having figured out the reason as well.
Before Annabelle Linton could say a word, Quentin Holland let out a derisive snort. "Were you afraid your old classmates and all of us would embarrass you?" he asked coldly. "Or did you just think we weren’t good enough to be invited to your wedding? Hmm, my dear junior?"
"..."
’What a headache...’
She could hear the biting sarcasm in Mr. Holland’s voice.
Back in college, almost everyone knew she had a fiancé, Leona Grant. They also knew that he didn’t treat her well and was close to Vivian Yates.
Of course, Annabelle Linton hadn’t told them any of this. They had dug it all up themselves.
So, in their eyes, Leona Grant was a total scumbag.
’Seriously, Leona... Why couldn’t you have been more dependable back then?’
Annabelle Linton forced another laugh. "Well, I heard you and the others were busy back then. Weren’t you working with the police prosecutors on a murder case? We in this line of work know that time is life, so I didn’t have the heart to bother you, Mr. Holland."
"Is that so..."
Quentin Holland said, drawing out the words.
Annabelle Linton nodded, about to add a few words of agreement, but Quentin Holland cut her off, his face expressionless. "And afterward? Did you forget? Or did you think I was on that case for the rest of my life? Perhaps I died along with the victim?"
Annabelle Linton was speechless.
’He’s being completely merciless.’
Annabelle Linton gave Quentin Holland a look of reproach, and he just snorted coldly.
Leona Grant stood off to the side, silent and stony-faced. He was deeply regretting his past actions...
"Annabelle!"
Just as the atmosphere reached its most awkward point, a voice suddenly cut in.
Annabelle Linton looked over and saw Mia Holloway—
her old college classmate, and now, Quentin Holland’s assistant.
Annabelle Linton looked at her like she was a savior. Mia Holloway walked right up and pulled Annabelle into a huge hug. "Annabelle, it really is you! Wow! Mr. Holland said I might get to see you if I came to Celestia, so I tagged along. I can’t believe I’m actually seeing you! I-I-I... I feel like I’m going to cry!"
"Don’t cry, Mia, I’m right here, aren’t I?" Annabelle Linton said, letting out a huge sigh of relief internally. ’Thank goodness Mia’s here.’
Quentin Holland saw Annabelle’s relieved expression and gave her a look of utter exasperation. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and then he instructed Mia Holloway, "Annabelle just got here and isn’t familiar with the place. Since she was late for the ribbon-cutting, she’ll have to say a few words at the closing ceremony. Show her the speech draft, and take her for a tour while you’re at it."
"Oh, okay, Mr. Holland," Mia Holloway said. She affectionately linked her arm through Annabelle Linton’s, ready to lead her away.
A sly glint flashed in Annabelle Linton’s eyes.
’Yes, a perfect opportunity. I should take Leona Grant with me.’
’Better to avoid any trouble later on.’
’Attending a simple ceremony is so exhausting...’
"My husband is coming with us, too."
With that, Annabelle Linton grabbed Leona Grant’s arm and gave him a gentle smile. "Honey, my senior’s convalescent home is the best one in Serenvale. There’s a long waiting list to get in. Come on, let’s go check it out together."
’Wow, she’s really laying it on thick.’
Leona Grant watched her with an enigmatic smile. ’Since when does this woman call me "Honey"?’
He could tell that this Quentin Holland fellow was not friendly toward him. And he had a pretty good idea why.
