Chapter 500: Can We Forget the Past and Just Be Okay? (1)
Annabelle Linton fell apart so quickly. All she wanted was to find a place where no one could see her.
But she didn’t know that Leona Grant was following her the whole time, stopping about five meters away.
’Such a wonderful day... I’d looked forward to it for so long, yet I never thought it would turn out like this...’
Leona saw her every move, and her own heart felt like it was being ripped apart. Annabelle wasn’t crying for her, but watching her cry still made Leona’s heart ache.
Seeing Annabelle Linton like this, the guilt in Leona Grant’s heart grew stronger.
’Did I do the wrong thing? All I wanted was to be with her... to protect her...’
Mindful of Annabelle’s emotional state and her pride, Leona forced herself to stay back.
She just kept watching her.
But Leona knew. Annabelle Linton carried more on her shoulders than anyone.
...
Aaron Wyatt left after all.
Annabelle Linton hid in a corner, watching. She saw him carry his suitcase through security, his lips pursed, his face expressionless. He boarded the plane, and then it soared into the clouds.
She closed her eyes, and tears streamed down her face once more.
’Just like in my past life. The same time of departure, the same expression, the same outcome.’
’Have I hurt him again?’
A bitter smile touched Annabelle Linton’s lips as she returned home. She immediately immersed herself in the gym.
She practically lived there for days, mechanically pushing her body to its absolute limit each day. Sometimes she worked out until she collapsed from exhaustion. Only then would she return to her room, take a shower, and fall into a thoughtless sleep.
’Working it all out is probably the best therapy in the world.’
Beyond that, Annabelle Linton also threw herself into learning combat, finding numerous sparring partners each day.
She beat those who were weaker than her.
And was beaten by those who were stronger.
Throughout these few days, however, Leona Grant never came back. Just like in their past life, the two of them went their separate ways, acting as if they were complete strangers.
The only difference was that Annabelle Linton’s mindset had changed.
「That night.」
The deep blue moonlight shimmered on the water’s surface, like a thin veil of gossamer. A gentle breeze swept by, stirring faint ripples and creating a calm, pleasant sound—a comfortable serenity in the quiet.
SPLASH—
A woman with a graceful figure swam endlessly in the water. Her arms glided with professional form, and her legs kicked in a steady rhythm, beautiful as a mermaid.
Annabelle Linton had been swimming in the pool all day. Now, utterly exhausted, she propped her arms on the edge and fell asleep right there, her eyes closed...
She was wearing a light blue bikini that contrasted with her snow-white skin. Her long hair fanned out across the water’s surface, giving her a captivating aura.
Yet, perhaps because of her overall aura, she gave off a feeling of cold indifference.
An endless coldness...
Leona Grant crouched down, leaning closer to her. She looked at Annabelle’s sleeping face, tested the water temperature, and then touched her arm. Annabelle’s skin was ice-cold.
She sighed and closed her eyes in resignation. Then, she leaned over and lifted Annabelle out of the pool.
She laid her on a lounge chair, quickly dried her off with one towel, then wrapped her in a pure white bath towel before lifting her into her arms and heading back.
She held her with one arm around her waist, the other supporting her from behind.
It wasn’t the usual princess carry. Instead, Annabelle’s legs were wrapped around Leona’s waist and her arms were hooked around Leona’s neck—the way an adult might carry a child.
Annabelle Linton was so exhausted that even this much movement didn’t wake her. Or perhaps Leona Grant’s actions were just that gentle.
A gust of wind blew past, and Annabelle subconsciously tightened her hold on Leona. Leona froze for a second.
Back in the room, Leona gently laid her on the bed, intending to go run a hot bath for her.
But as if she knew Leona was about to leave, Annabelle clung to her tightly.
