Chapter 510: Honey, I Was Wrong (2)
To think there’d come a day when she, Ashley Grant, would be the one getting dumped.
Ashley Grant chuckled, got out of the car, and slipped into a bar she knew well.
’Ryan Linton really did understand her; he even knew what she would do and where she’d go.’
So when Annabelle Linton rushed over, she found Ashley completely wasted.
She frowned and walked up to her.
Ashley Grant looked at her with hazy eyes, then suddenly threw her arms around her and burst out crying, "Annabelle, your brother doesn’t want me anymore! He doesn’t want me... sob..."
’Don’t want...’ What a heartbreaking pair of words.
Annabelle hugged her and sighed, stroking her hair and comforting her softly, "There, there. Don’t cry. You still have me, right?"
She looked down at her, a complicated emotion shimmering in her cool, dark eyes.
’Ashley, it’s not that Ryan doesn’t want you or doesn’t love you. In fact, it’s because he loves you so much that he’s putting your interests first in everything he does.’
’I could tell her everything, but what then?’
’Besides, in my past life, I remember Ryan left with Kiera around this same time. He hadn’t come back by the time I died, which means if Ashley were to wait for him, she’d be waiting at least a year and a half.’
’Although some things in this life have deviated significantly from my past life, the major events have remained unchanged.’
’Like Aaron Wyatt leaving, and now Ryan leaving.’
’A girl’s youth is too precious. I like Ashley, and that’s exactly why I can’t be the one to harm her.’
’In this world, the most difficult debt to repay is a personal one.’
’Kiera Keane’s leg isn’t going to get better. For the three of them to be caught up in this together would be agony for all.’
Annabelle sighed again and took her home.
Ashley cried for ages, and it took Annabelle just as long to console her before she finally drifted off to sleep.
As soon as she stepped out of the room, she got a call from Ryan Linton.
Annabelle wearily pinched the bridge of her nose and said calmly, "The specialist I found for you two is very famous. It’s impossible for most people to get an appointment, so make sure you see them properly when you get there, understand? Or should I come over?"
"No, it’s fine. Just take care of her." Ryan Linton was standing on a balcony, letting the wind blow past him. His voice sounded distant as he asked, "How was she today?"
"She’s asleep now."
The words implied she hadn’t been doing well during the day.
Annabelle hadn’t said it outright, but Ryan understood.
After a moment of mutual silence, Ryan said with a sigh of resignation, "I understand. Let’s leave it at that. Take care of yourself, and take care of her."
"Okay."
...
「The next day.」
When Ashley Grant woke up, she was acting unnervingly normal, as if she had forgotten everything. She refused to speak a word about Ryan Linton.
It was as if he had never existed in her world at all.
"Annabelle, want to go to Seraphine?" Ashley asked while eating breakfast.
Annabelle didn’t even raise her head as she ate, asking coolly, "Go to Seraphine for what?"
"To shop, of course," Ashley answered without a second thought.
She had originally planned to go with Ryan Linton once their break started.
But now the break was here, and he was gone.
So much for plans.
A flicker of pain was clearly visible in Ashley’s eyes.
Annabelle was silent for a moment before giving a quiet "Mm."
’She felt she could use some time away, too.’
It must be nice to be rich. While some people might never travel far from home in their entire lives, for Annabelle and the others, going abroad was nothing special.
They could leave at a moment’s notice.
After breakfast, the two of them gathered their things. Each nonchalantly slung a single bag over their shoulder, leaving the country without even packing any luggage.
When they left, they didn’t even bother to notify Leona Grant.
...
「As evening fell, Grant Group.」
Leona Grant sat at her desk reviewing documents, dressed in a button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled halfway up her arms.
As she worked through document after document, her thoughts drifted to Annabelle Linton.
And the moment she thought of her, she got angry.
