Remarriage Failed Again Today

Annabelle Linton faltered and stopped in her tracks, a mist instantly clouding her eyes.

’The inevitable had arrived.’

Leona Grant didn’t understand why she stopped, but he stopped with her.

He didn’t recognize Aaron Wyatt’s car, but when he followed her gaze, he saw Aaron Wyatt getting out.

Aaron Wyatt radiated an oppressive aura. His gaze burned into Annabelle Linton, his thin lips pressed into a tight line as he strode toward them with a dark expression.

The corners of Leona Grant’s lips curved into a handsome smile.

It was as if all the previous scenes were rewinding in his mind.

"Annabelle, let’s go buy rings."

"Annabelle, where should we go for our honeymoon?"

"Annabelle, I’ll go upstairs and run a bath for you."

"Annabelle, our wedding is tomorrow."

’Buddy, your Annabelle is mine now. Got it?’

Leona Grant scoffed. Just as he was about to pull Annabelle Linton into his arms, she beat him to it, gently taking his arm.

Leona Grant froze and looked at her. She was already beaming at him with a radiant smile.

She was clearly smiling, but she couldn’t hide the gravity, concern, and deep pain in her eyes, and he saw every bit of it.

A sharp pain lanced through Leona Grant’s heart.

At this moment, he felt utterly despicable.

He understood her; he understood her all too well.

He understood better than anyone how seriously and earnestly she treated matters of the heart.

’So now, forced by circumstances, she had let the man she loved slip away. Since what was done was done, she’s trying to do what’s best for him.’

’She doesn’t want to hurt him, so she’s using me as a shield to make him give up all hope?’

An unprecedented sense of defeat washed over him.

Leona Grant scoffed, but he didn’t push her away. Instead, he played along, feigning intimacy.

Aaron Wyatt slammed the car door shut and strode right up to her. He glanced at the Civil Affairs Bureau behind them, then at their linked hands, his eyes turning ice-cold. "Give me an explanation."

Annabelle Linton lowered her gaze and said nothing.

But Leona Grant could clearly feel her grip on his arm tighten.

"Annabelle Linton, give me an explanation!" Aaron Wyatt couldn’t help but roar at her.

"You sold yourself, didn’t you? I told you I’d help you find a solution, so why would you do this to yourself, huh?!"

’I’d already found a way... Why was I still one step too late?’

’Yes, he knew he was the one who had ruined her. Her current predicament was all his fault.’

’He also knew he had to leave, that their separation was only a matter of time. And he knew Leona Grant was the only one who could protect her.’

’But she doesn’t love Leona Grant, does she?’

’But he was going to arrange for people to protect her in secret!’

Annabelle Linton buried the pain in her heart and looked up at him, her expression calm and nonchalant. "Because I love him."

The two men stiffened instantly.

She smiled, hiding the deep pain in her eyes as she looked at him quietly.

’If she had known things would come to this, she never would have accepted his confession or his proposal.’

’But what’s done is done, isn’t it?’

’It was true, she didn’t love Leona Grant. But not all marriages had to be sustained by love!’

’There might not be passion between us, but there could be plenty of warmth and affection, and that would be enough.’
