Chapter 1012 - 985: Isn’t This What You Wanted?
It was only then that Hai Zhao remembered he had called Xiaoxi for clothes and glared at Lili.
"I’ll settle the money with you tomorrow."
Hai Zhao rudely grabbed the bag. Lili curiously tried to peek behind him, hoping that the usually cheerful Hai would invite her in. But she was destined for disappointment. After taking the bag, Hai Zhao closed the door without even saying goodbye.
Saying goodbye to someone who interrupted his plans—yeah, right!
Some things can’t be rekindled once interrupted. When Hai Zhao turned back, he saw the hostile look in Yu Mingxi’s eyes and lost all drive.
Had she sobered up a bit and was now angry about what he’d done?
Afraid she might say something hurtful, Hai Zhao decided to strike first.
"Here are some clothes to change into. Just pick one of the rooms, I’ll stay in the guest room."
He handed her the bag with clothes and shoes, but she didn’t take it, just stared deeply at him.
"You want me to wear clothes brought by another woman?"
"They’re all new."
"Ha." She gave him a cold laugh, then pridefully tossed the bag aside.
She would never wear clothes brought in by another woman, especially one who came in the middle of the night!
Like a proud peacock, Xiaoxi brushed past him, leaving Hai Zhao with a sense of helplessness.
Again and again, it’s always like this.
All he could do was watch her back. Just trying to do something small would make her hate him. Forget it, he should just leave.
"If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave now. Remember to lock the door when you leave tomorrow."
"You stop right there!"
"Yu Mingxi, what do you want me to do? Tell me, what do I have to do for you not to hate me? Tell me!" Hai Zhao finally couldn’t hold it in, turning back to look at her angrily.
But the next moment, he was shocked by her actions.
"Haven’t you always wanted me to give you a chance? Well, here it is, come over." She tempted his heart, consuming his soul.
To pursue her, he had cut off all his routes. He was about to be overwhelmed by this deep affection, left with no place to bury himself. Yet the woman of his dreams was just a few meters away, calling to him with deep longing.
One step forward, is it eternal damnation or a light at the end of the tunnel?
With his dream girl within reach, Hai Zhao was torn apart inside.
As he walked towards her quickly, Yu Mingxi, with alcohol-clouded eyes, had a hint of sarcasm in them.
"It’s cold, don’t catch a chill."
Unexpectedly, he just picked up the clothes and draped them over her, then turned away, avoiding her gaze. This act already consumed all his energy; just one more glance and he feared he might do something uncontrollable.
"If you said this to me when you were sober, I’d be very happy." With fists tightly clenched, he quickly walked towards the guest room. In his haste, he bumped into the wall, yelping in pain, swearing as he kicked the door before entering the guest room.
"It’s cold, hurry up and sleep!"
Before closing the door, he called out loudly.
Yu Mingxi, with his coat draped over her shoulders, stood there, emotions flickering in her eyes. Her muddled mind gained a trace of clarity as if Qian’s voice echoed in her ear.
Love is the most complicated emotion, and many psychological issues stem from its absence.
Yu Mingxi shook her head, dismissing Qian’s voice. When did she ever say this to herself?
When passing by Hai Zhao’s door, Yu Mingxi paused, hearing the sound of water running inside.
"Idiot, you don’t even know how to seize the opportunity when it’s given to you, serves you right."
Elegantly, she went into her room, crawled into bed, and drifted into a deep sleep.
In her dreams, Yu Mingxi saw that gigantic snake she hadn’t dreamed of in years. But this time, as she, now a giant, tried to catch the snake, she shrank and was chased by it. Where did her sense of self-control go?
Was it the alcohol that weakened her self-control, or something else? Who knows?
In any case, Yu Mingxi didn’t sleep well, waking up before dawn.
Her head throbbed; the hangover hadn’t worn off. She started to recall fragments from the previous night. There was a blank in her memory; she couldn’t remember what happened after drinking with Qian but clearly remembered Hai Zhao pushing her away, refusing to cross that line.
With a frown, Yu Mingxi got up without hesitation. Her clothes were dirty, and in the living room were clothes brought by another woman, which she would never wear.
So she opened the wardrobe, selecting a long-sleeved T-shirt and some unworn clothes from Hai Zhao’s wardrobe. His size was too large for her, but it didn’t matter. She rolled the sleeves and pants up, and when she was about to close the cupboard, she saw a very familiar box.
She picked it up to find the green brooch Hai Zhao had given her, which she had passed on to Qian. It had once cooled their relationship to a freezing point. It didn’t seem special at the time, but after last night’s peculiar interaction, its emerald glow seemed strikingly bright.
Some things, because they’re always in sight, don’t seem special. Like the brooch, it seemed too fancy at the time, but after being away for a while, its design now seemed quite agreeable.
Yu Mingxi held the brooch in her hand, hesitated for a few seconds, and then put it back.
Some things, she really couldn’t give now.
She went to the room where Hai Zhao was sleeping. He was hugging the blanket. Yu Mingxi rolled her eyes and covered him with the blanket again.
"Xiaoxi, Xiaoxi, you’re so beautiful. Xiaoxi, Xiaoxi, why are you so...good~ hehe~"
