Chapter 1252 - 1224: Cheerfully Crashing the School
"Master Chang!" Qian saw Mrs Chang walking towards the door and quickly called out to her, following her outside.
This Mrs Chang is really something, like a knight initiating a challenge, shouting at injustice, and then walking away like nothing happened, deeply burying her achievements and fame!
Mrs Chang was momentarily stunned by the address, but then her face lit up with joy, "Did you apprentice under Qio? Did he tell you to call me that?"
"Uh..." It was true she became an apprentice, but it wasn’t the master who told her to use that title. Yet seeing Mrs Chang’s joyful expression, Qian was too embarrassed to say otherwise, so she lied through her teeth.
"Yes, my master said so. He told me I have an aunt, and it’s you. I never imagined we were family."
Mrs Chang seemed even happier and looked at Qian with growing kindness.
"Not bad, you’re a good child. It was destiny that Qio found you; such a good kid indeed shouldn’t be left behind."
Qian didn’t pick up on the hidden meaning in her words and continued to ask, "Master Chang, what brings you here?"
"I’ve been wandering around recently and heard there was a lecture on traditional virtues for women here, so I thought I’d come and take a look. Happened to see that fellow spouting nonsense and deceiving people, so I stepped in. Child, how did you get here?"
"My mom dragged me here." Qian had a bitter expression; having a superstitious mom was indeed disheartening.
With Mrs Chang stepping in today, adding to the previous rescue, Qian’s prior impression of her as a fraud considerably changed, developing a bit of favor. After a few casual chats, Qian turned the topic to what she discussed with Nong Yao earlier.
"Master Chang, there’s something I don’t quite understand. My senior...um, my master asked me to ask you."
Qian initially wanted to truthfully say it was her senior who asked to inquire, but fearing Mrs Chang would hide things, she pretended it was Qio Yu Xuan who prompted the inquiry.
"Child, ask away."
"It’s like this, I’ve been researching a topic about the innate goodness of human nature, and I’ve gotten stuck on the inherent differences in temperament. My master said you’re proficient in the Zhou Yi and asked me to consult you."
Mrs Chang was listening with a smile, but upon hearing this, her expression changed.
"He... asked you to ask me?!"
"Yes, my master said no one knows better than you." Qian continued to bluff.
Mrs Chang was instantly thrown into disorder.
Now thinking, did Qio get confused? Is this the moment he wants to use her to reveal past events to the child?
It can’t be; Qio is so cautious, how could he suddenly make her talk about this after hiding it for years?
Qian initially just wanted to discuss the origins of mankind philosophically with Mrs Chang, figuring these people, with their advanced skills, must have some unknown research insights, wanting to learn from them to broaden her thinking. But she didn’t expect Mrs Chang to show such a surprised expression.
Mrs Chang, on one hand, didn’t want to offend Qio Yu Xuan and worsen their relationship further, yet she wasn’t sure whether it was truly Qio Yu Xuan who sent Qian over to inquire, thus she ambiguously said this.
"Have you heard of the research on the weight of the soul?"
"I know a bit, but isn’t that research quite controversial? I remember there were scientists abroad studying this, saying a person becomes 21 grams lighter after death, claiming that’s the weight of the soul. However, the findings are quite contentious, there’s been no definitive conclusion, though some religious folks seem thrilled by it."
Domestically, there’s adherence to atheism, insisting that one dies like a flame extinguished, but abroad the research on souls continues without abandon. With Qian having experienced rebirth, she leans towards the foreign research. Though over the years, the topic hasn’t seen much progress, she isn’t well-versed in it either.
"Whether the soul truly exists or is an imagined virtual matter, perhaps this line of thought can help resolve your confusion."
Qian sensed something seemed off, she wanted to probe further into Mrs Chang’s thoughts, but Mrs Chang didn’t wish to linger, finding an excuse to leave.
Qian was dissatisfied with the outcome, hoping Mrs Chang, as a master in philosophy, would give her valuable insights, yet she spoke of such intangible things, leaving Qian feeling brushed off, or perhaps Mrs Chang, after years of cultivation, abandoned the scientific system and began using Daoist philosophies to solve problems. Wouldn’t that make her no different from her superstitious mom...
"Qian’er!" Qian’s mom came back looking like a female warrior, holding the refund from the returned tickets.
"Hmph, these frauds are detestable, good thing we got our money back! Come on, let’s use this money to buy clothes for you two!"
Qian shook her head; she still had more important things to attend to.
"Mom, Dalong and I still have something to do. You go home first and cook for us, we’ll come back after we’re done."
"Where are you going?" Qian’s mom was worried; her daughter was pregnant and she couldn’t stand being away from her.
"I’m going to visit my father-in-law, to buy some things to bring to him." Qian lied.
Upon hearing this, Qian’s mom agreed; her daughter couldn’t visit Q City and only see her own family without visiting her in-laws. She quickly agreed.
"Then you go ahead, send my regards to your father-in-law."
The Yu Family now only had Mr. Yu. Mrs. Yu had retired and no longer needed to work, staying at Da’s place, helping take care of the baby and frequently preparing delicious meals for Qian.
Using an excuse to placate her mom, Qian headed straight with Dalong to the charlatan’s place her mom mentioned.
On the way, Dalong was eager and ready, having long awaited this opportunity.
Yu Minglang called Qian, telling her the help he arranged was in place, ambushed outside the charlatan’s house, just waiting for Qian to arrive.
Upon arrival, Qian indeed saw a dozen young men standing by the roadside, dressed in plain clothes, shouting "sister-in-law" in unison when they saw Qian.
Qian immediately knew these were people from Yu Minglang’s old unit coming to help. As she pondered over simply demolishing the place being too crude and unsatisfying, she was figuring how to handle the matter thrillingly when suddenly another group showed up, all carrying sticks and bricks.
Uncertain of their intentions, these newcomers had faces full of enmity, seeming quite hostile.
On Qian’s side, led by Dalong, they quickly encircled Qian, knowing protecting her was the top priority.
The leader of the other group was a striking woman, dressed in vibrant red sportswear, full of energy with an unabashed air on her beautiful face, making her extremely eye-catching.
Qian was drawn by the woman’s aura; seeing many people, she often deduced character traits at a glance, and this woman was fiery both in attire and personality.
The woman caught sight of Qian’s group, her sharp eyes scanning Qian, and her secretary-like companion nearby signaled with a wave, "Attack!"
