Chapter 279: Shocking Dream Luck

Several lumps of will conversed and spoke over each other, anxious and somewhat displeased. There were seventeen such lumps. The number of female and male gu immortals were heavily skewed towards the former with their being six male gu immortals and eleven fairies. This was Spirit Affinity House’s meeting hall. Even first and second fairies were busy with other matters and did not attend in person.

"You were truly reckless, Elder Lo Jik!" Xu Hao accused grimly. His voice was stern as steel, demanding, "do you have anything to say for yourself?"

Several gazes pinned the lump of orange-colored brave will. It stood at the end of the hall with another rank 6 gu immortal’s will, showing their lower status compared to the rest. These two were none other than Lo Jik and Black Moon. With their status as the new supreme elders, the duo also left a portion of their wills within the discussion hall and appeared when summoned for a meeting.

"Reckless?" Lo Jik blinked and replied politely. "I still don’t understand what harm a rank 1 gu worm can achieve, Elder Xu."

Annoyance flashed in Xu Hao’s eyes. Regardless of his personal history with Feng Faction or brief altercation with Lo Jik ’encouraged’ by Love Gu back then, Xu Hao was loyal to Spirit Affinity House and could not sit still while some talent recklessly shared the strength needed to support the sect!

"Your rank 1 Ten-Battles Champion Gu is revolutionary in certain aspects. Congratulations, Elder Lo Jik." Xu Hao smiled coldly. "But did you discuss with the sect before sharing it in Treasure Yellow Heaven and announcing your plan to share the recipes for rank 1-5 for all to use?"

Lo Jik shook his head and spoke candidly.

"No, I did not. Should I?"

"Absolutely!" Xu Hao nodded. "Now you have caused this mess. By not sharing the series of gu recipe, you will tarnish the sect’s reputation, the one we’re trying to salvage since our members were ambushed on Tian Ti Mountain. However, if you share this recipe, you will instead bolster the forces of other four regions."

It would have been easy for Xu Hao to try and pin the blame of Tian Ti’s mess on Lo Jik but he did not do so. He also had his considerations as a part of righteous path and instead spoke with compassion when mentioning how they were ambushed, implying he did not hold any ill-will towards Lo Jik and others for that matter.

Lo Jik cupped his fist and spoke softly.

"Forgive me, Elder Xu. But I’m not a wisdom path gu immortal and my vision is not as broad as yours. I still do not understand how I helped the other four regions when we can also spread the recipe for Rank 1 Ten-Battles Champion Gu in Central Continent. Once more and more gu masters cultivate strength path, they will devise more methods of using this gu worm. My goal is to see this gu worm shine brightly as hope for strength path in this era!"

Others recalled Lo Jik’s talent in human path and also how he once used gu worms to refine the effect of higher-ranked body refinement gu on his body. This style was fully displayed in this rank 1 strength path gu worm, completely making many of the earlier strength path gu worms obsolete in an instant!

And that’s why they felt even more anguished!

Bu Zhen Zi’s will sighed.

"Think about it, Elder Lo Jik." Even if more prestigious as a rare phantom path gu immortal and a rank 7 senior significantly more capable and stronger than Bai La, Bu Zhen Zi regarded Lo Jik with a trace of appreciation. "Our sect controls Dang Hun Mountain. Most of our talented and elite disciples already nurtured a soul foundation that the disciples of other sects would not able to catch-up to without at least a decade of arduous soul cultivation, and that estimation is generous as it is."

"Your new strength path innovation could have led the rise of a number of strong strength path disciples. Not only would their bodies have monstrous strength, but their flesh, bones, skin, organs and various other body parts would be refined to hold such strength."

"Our sect could have surpassed others in both body and soul!"

"And now we lost this golden opportunity."

Lo Jik fell silent after hearing all this as other elders also focused on him.

He couldn’t help but sigh after a long period of tense silence.

"I’m sorry, elders. I did not think this far. I never meant to waste all of your time. But I could not control my excitement after I successfully refined this gu worm."

Lo Jik shook his head again as a few elders consoled him superficially until Xu Hao shot Feng Jiu Ge a glance before coughing.

"Do you now understand your value, Elder Lo Jik? I’m not trying to unnecessary trouble you, but it’s also true that your vision is unique and much appreciated. With time, you will do great things and might even surpass your predecessors." Xu Hao praised before sighing deeply. "But this gu worm represents several opportunities for the sect. I hope, for the sect, you will first contribute this recipe here and only share it in Treasure Yellow Heaven after five years."

"Is this gu worm that valuable?" Lo Jik muttered under his breath, prompting Xu Hao’s wife to smile. Masking her malicious intentions with gentle praises, she urged, "it is, Elder Lo Jik. The greatest advantage of your gu recipe is the fact that the materials required to refine this gu worm are simply too common. Anyone can refine it. Anyone can raise their strength by a great margin! Earlier, Domination Immortal Chu Du vowed to spread your recipe throughout Northern Plains. What does that mean? Northern Plains’ gu masters will experience a qualitative rise."

"Northern Plains might seem a place of brutish competition and endless battles, but in reality, the gu masters hailing from Northern Plains have extremely brilliant and bright minds. The constant battles force them to innovate great methods. Some of the methods spread throughout the gu world due to their efficiency and strength could be traced back to Northern Plains’ gu masters and gu immortals."

"You can expect them to not only improve on your recipe in time but also advance it! By sharing your recipe so quickly, you actually fell into a disadvantage."

She spoke with great emotion. "I know, in your heart, strength path’s advancement matters more than such squabbles. However, you must think about your own martial sisters and brothers. Would it not have been in your best interest to impart this recipe to your own disciple, Disciple Ju Lin, before the rest of the world?"

Lo Jik sighed again and lowered his head even more.

"I..."

He stepped forward and stood in the center of the court before the first supreme elder’s will.

"Please allow me to rectify the error of my ways, Lord First Elder."

With that, Lo Jik took out five stacks of recipes.

Not only did he share it with everyone, forcing their expressions to change the more the read the recipe, his words also resounded like claps of lighting in Xu Hao’s eardrums.

"I never expected this recipe to be so crucial. As you can see from my ideas and inspiration in the recipe, it can be further improved. I want strength path to flourish because of my selfish reasons. The more others use my gu worm, the better methods they will discover to use it! All this will become a great experience for me later down the line."

"But I cannot continue with these childish thoughts. I wish to contribute these recipes to the sect!"

First elder’s will skimmed through them before nodding calmly as Lo Jik continued with a grave expression.

"As Elder Xu Hao and Lady Li Jun Ying said, I ended up causing the sect a lot of trouble. That is absolutely unforgivable. So, I request to borrow the two strength path immortal gu worm in the sect treasury, Pulling Mountain and Pulling Water Immortal Gu Worms. I will be able to deduce and complete the recipe for rank 6 strength path gu worm. Immortal gu worms are unique. Once I succeed, no matter how other gu masters study my recipes, they will remain unable to refine it at as an immortal gu worm!"

Xu Hao: "..."

Other gu immortals clearly did not want Lo Jik and Black Moon’s faction to rise. They wanted to suppress Lo Jik’s request using several reasons, most prominent of which being—are immortal gu worms truly easy to deduce and refine? Who did Lo Jik think he was? A venerable in an otherworldly demon’s clothing?

Yet, the fact Lo Jik had already deduced the recipe of this gu series from rank 1-5 in a matter of year shocked everyone. The profundities within the recipe they remained unable to grasp turned this shock into traces of fear. And Lo Jik’s scheming mind, the way he used their ostentatious praises to get more benefit for himself, filled this cloud of shock and fear with a healthy dose of helplessness.

Xu Hao was about to say something but a lump of will flew towards the discussion hall. It was also Xu Hao’s will. Both the wills merged and the will inside the discussion hall fell silent, no longer trying to suppress Lo Jik’s attempt.

This was not a rare situation. Other gu immortals also conversed with their own wills from time to time. Sometimes they would also separate a portion of their will using the gu worms left inside them to send messages to their main bodies.

The fact that Xu Hao remained silent, however, was rare.

Eventually, Lo Jik left for Secret Inheritance Peak with a soft smile.

<<<>>>

Lo Jik had earned a huge sum of contribution points due to the events regarding Black Heaven Swallowing Snake. But that wasn’t enough to borrow both the strength path immortal gu worms. Choosing one of them would have prompted his opposition to instantly borrow the other for a long period of time and impede his research.

But, was it worth it to exchange a precious rank 1-5 series of gu recipe just to borrow these immortal gu worms?

Obviously not.

However, Lo Jik planned to study and refine mortal variants for Pulling Mountain and Pulling Water Immortal Gu Worms. Accumulation Gu worm continued showing its sheer benefits to this day. Lo Jik did not need to be tied down to immortal gu worms to display awe-inspiring might.

With mortal variants of Pulling Mountain and Pulling Water used alongside Accumulation Gu, Lo Jik could burst with an output similar to rank 6 immortal gu worms. Once he added another strength path immortal gu worms in the killer move, the strength would obviously rise. His greatest assets were still All-Out Effort and Borrow Strength Immortal Gu Worms. Once Lo Jik refined rank 6 Unchained Champion Immortal Gu, he would control the core immortal gu worms of the previous two branches of strength path alongside the recently established Human Champion Strength Branch.

What could he say? He liked Chu Du’s name for this branch quite a bit.

He also had a rather wishful scheme.

These strength path gu worms were truly too good not to use. Sure, they were not at the level of Guts Gu, but they also did not rely on a Secluded Domain of Heaven and Earth to be produced. It could be produced by any mortal clan or super force. The fact that Chu Du was so moved by his recipe was not something Lo Jik could have predicted. After all, he was not an omniscient being. But that also worked. With Chu Du spreading this recipe throughout Northern Plains, other four regions will also have to become more guarded. They will need to invest in strength path just to balance things!

Within five years, Lo Jik planned to release the entire gu series.

By then, strength path would experience a remarkable shift. To actually propel strength path back to its glory days using one gu worm alone, however, was impossible. And Lo Jik did not plan on doing that.

’The great era belongs to dream path. It’s a golden era for this path just as strength path was at its peak in Reckless Savage Demon Venerable’s era.’

’But...’

Lo Jik’s gaze gleamed.

Forcing other super forces to invest in strength path because it was easy meant indirectly making them raise strength path gu masters instead of other paths. Currently, super forces had the highest investment in dream path with minimal returns. But with time, dream path will become common. Lo Jik understood that.

He was scheming against this future!

Wouldn’t it be great if a prospective future dream path gu immortal lost all of their potential because they saw short gains in strength path in this day and age?

If one... if Lo Jik’s current action crippled only one great dream path expert meant to rise in the future, he would consider this scheme successful.

After all, what did he lose?

A couple of recipes?

But what did he gain?

One less opponent in the chaotic war of great era.

Many in his position might ignore this prospect, thinking it was too far in the future. However, Lo Jik did not dare overlook this truth. He was already preparing immensely. His own strength was his greatest assurance.

But this was truly a wishful scheme.

Lo Jik might never know whether he succeeded and that was an acceptable result to him.

What Lo Jik truly desired was to suppress Spirit Affinity House.

Was he not bright and did not understand the consequences of his actions?

Did he not harm Central Continent’s interest by letting Chu Du spread the recipe in Northern Plains?

Were the regional qi walls not going to vanish later down the line?

A wave of conflict would soon consume the gu world. It wouldn’t start with an all-out conflict but underhanded tactics and plans instead. That is why Lo Jik’s Human Adaptive Qi Gu was so valuable to Spirit Affinity House. Even if Lo Jik created this mess, Fairy Yi only encouraged him to continue following this path and research deeper in Human Adaptive Qi Gu, deducing recipes for rank 4 and 5 variants. That’s why she urged him not to put his dream path research on hold.

The more Lo Jik shone, the more he incurred the jealousy of other nine sects, and still Spirit Affinity House was willing to suffer in silence.

Back then, his father-in-law was converted to righteous path by his mother-in-law’s love, but Spirit Affinity House still suffered a great pressure. Yet the sect endured it all because Feng Jiu Ge was outstanding!

Fairy Yi was part of the neutral faction. Despite her earlier schemes of suppressing Lo Jik and not wanting to see him become a gu immortal, now that he was one, she wanted him to grow and instead suppress Feng Jiu Ge’s influence. The internal conflict of the sect was much more subtle and balanced than the external conflicts with the other nine ancient sects. Currently, Feng Jiu Ge was too powerful. He could dominate the Anti-Feng faction not only due to his strength but also his sharp mind. Black Moon’s faction let first and second supreme elders hope to balance this rather one-sided dominance and achieve a fairer competition.

Of course, they did not expect Lo Jik to grow as strong as Feng Jiu Ge. These things simply did not happen else every rank 7 gu immortal would have achieved this status and rank 8 gu immortals would not be feared by the entire gu immortal world. Instead, Black Moon and Anti-Feng Faction could still ally and resist Feng Faction greatly.

And to achieve this, Lo Jik was already able to get benefits from the sect easily compared to before.

After trading with Black Moon and the rest, Lo Jik took a chance to observe his lovers’ luck. He did the same before entering his seclusion and wanted to see if their cultivation resulted in any change.

Sun Yao’s luck was like a ball of multi-colored mist. It was pretty to look at and sizeable enough. The mist, however, implied her lack of direction. Sun Yao was a hard working woman, but she did not have a great ambition and still lacked the understanding of her own self. This issue could only be resolved with time and more experiences. And that’s what Sun Yao lacked. Qin Juan and others still performed missions while cultivating but Sun Yao led a more pampered life. Observing her luck now, Lo Jik noticed slight shifts. He had deliberately left his experiences with her.

These experiences were not just his understanding of cultivation journey but also the emotions he felt during various events. He was a human path great grandmaster and understood how powerful a human’s emotion could be. These emotions influenced one’s thoughts and ambitions.

Sun Yao learned of his helplessness and silent rage. She gasped at the depictions of sheer joy Lo Jik nursed in his chest when he succeeded in things. In reality, these were the things he felt early on.

Now? Failure and success were simply a part of life. They were, in a word, ordinary events of life. His joy had greatly diminished with each success, and his helplessness was nearly entirely curbed with each failure. What these events inspired in Lo Jik were instead greater curiosity towards the world and great dao.

These experiences were beneficial for Sun Yao. Her luck still appeared like a mist but it was no longer multi-colored and chaotic as before. Inside the ball of mist was a shadow of certainty—a structure that was yet to complete. It revealed that Sun Yao’s inner nature had shifted the last year. She was carefully considering her options and desires.

Qin Juan’s luck was like waves in a sea. It was significantly larger than Sun Yao’s, representing her refinement path cultivation derived using water refinement methods. But this sea and waves also signified erosion. Her luck was not calm. Qin Juan used to spend a lot of time making minor modifications to her recipes to gain more insight in refinement path. The more she did it, the more she exhausted herself. This was the orthodox way of cultivation. Refinement path gu masters tend to accumulate their understanding by first making minor adjustments and then major ones. But refinement path was too broad. It encompassed the refinement of gu worms of other paths, too.

This method of cultivation forced a refinement path gu master to be stuck in many stages when modifying recipes for gu worms of different paths, forcing them to seek answers elsewhere.

But following Lo Jik’s imparted Roaring Dragon Water Light killer move, Qin Juan made several adjustments to her gu set the last year and started comprehending this killer move itself. She was extremely close to piercing the veil separating her from the realm of a master and her luck signified this shift.

Currently, Qin Juan’s luck was like a still lake. This stillness did not imply stagnation. Instead, it was like a glass, extremely elegant. Inside this lake, in the shallow depths, slumbered a tiny snake. Observing closer, this snake was actually a tiny flood dragon. However, Qin Juan’s lake was shallow and could not nurse a proper flood dragon. Lastly, this dragon would spit out sharp jets of water. Every time it spat, it would dig the lake a bit deeper.

This was the effect of Lo Jik’s killer move. By studying it, Qin Juan deepened her understanding of refinement path and, subsequently, made her luck richer and more profound. The size of the flood dragon also signified that the support Lo Jik offered was truly not that humongous. Qin Juan had reached this step mostly based on her own effort.

Shu Zhe’s luck made him pause.

’It hasn’t changed much...’ He frowned. Shu Zhe cultivated the modified Nine-Headed Schemer’s true inheritance. This wisdom path inheritance was solid and covered all aspects of gu cultivation from offensive, defensive, and movement to niche and rarer aspects like storage. With her temperament and dedication, Shu Zhe should have already surpassed the strength she possessed as the sect’s leader.

Regardless of her growth, Shu Zhe’s luck still showed signs of pitch-black color. These signs deepened and spread further into her luck the more she felt confident in ascending.

’A gu immortal’s ascension is dangerous and cannot be looked down upon. Even someone like Bai La nearly died in her tribulation. Even if I manage to tackle the tribulation, I cannot help Shu Zhe out when she’s blending her human qi with heaven qi and earth qi.’

Lo Jik was well-aware of the dangers in tribulation. Even Divine Concealment did not make him immune to the risks present during one’s ascension.

He didn’t say much and let things be. Shu Zhe was merely at the preparatory stage of things. As for her luck?

Luck was uncertain. It was a variable. Even if Shu Zhe’s lucks were completely down in the dumps, with her own skill and strength, she would have a chance to rise and reverse the situation.

With that, Lo Jik focused on Feng Jin Huang’s luck.

Her luck was like an exquisite golden token. It appeared solid and stable. Hundreds of beautiful, multi-colored gems adorned this token with three gems standing out conspicuously due to their huge sizes. One of them was blue-colored and flashed gently. Every time it flashed, the light would move around the golden token and grow it ever so slightly. The second-largest gem was dark-golden. It was embedded in the token deeply. Strangely, there was a hairline crack dividing the golden gem from the center. Last but not the least, the final gem pure and clear. It surpassed the previous two gems in size even if they were to be combined. It gave Lo Jik a feeling of unsurmountable vastness.

These three manifestations on Feng Jin Huang’s luck clearly belonged to Bai Qing, Bai La, and Feng Jiu Ge. There was a hairline crack on luck representing Bai La’s connection with Feng Jin Huang due to their complicated feelings after emerging from the dream realm. Now, however, Lo Jik expected to see better things. It had been a year for Feng Jin Huang and she must have stayed in contact with Bai La. Their relationship was definitely better than what it was last year.

So, Lo Jik’s shock was appropriate when he saw none of that.

’What the...’

Lo Jik barely kept his emotions in check.

Feng Jin Huang’s luck had completely changed! What stood above Feng Jin Huang’s head was a tall pillar. Its length did not seem to have an end as it reached the sky. It was fashioned from multi-colored threads. There were black, red, violet, starry-blue, pale-grey, golden, and more. These threads wrapped around tightly, forming this pillar-like cocoon.

His breath hitched.

’It’s a butterfly waiting to transform, spread its wing, and fly.’ Lo Jik couldn’t believe his eyes. It also confirmed his premonition. Feng Jin Huang was truly destined for dream path.

For the last year, she had been practicing dream path and learning from Lo Jik’s research in secret. After facing the dangers of dream realm, she did not actively try to refine any gu worm. Instead, she had been waiting to regain her Dream Wings Immortal Gu Worm. That and Guts Gu would clearly increase her survivability. For her safety, Lo Jik did impart her with his healing killer move.

’The moment I hand over Dream Wings Immortal Gu Worm, the butterfly nursed within this luck cocoon would burst open and spread its wings.’

’This luck is too grand and vast.’

’It has a feeling of sky, as if heaven itself blessed Feng Jin Huang.’

’And this feeling...’ Lo Jik keenly sensed a human element in Feng Jin Huang’s luck. ’Could she be one of those blessed children of luck?’

Some gu masters were born with good fortune and some were not. It was similar to how some gu masters were born with divine strength or extraordinary mind. Lo Jik himself belonged in this category. He had divine capacity. Furthermore, he was a quick learner. He could reach certain stages of understanding quickly by focusing on it entirely. That’s why he became a master archer so quickly. These traits of his existence fell pale compared to the pace with which he raised his attainment using dream path, but they were there. Similarly, some humans with extraordinary luck can be called children of luck, blessed by heavenly dao, child adored by humanity, and many other names.

There were two main categories to it: Children of heaven and children of humanity.

To Lo Jik’s shock, Feng Jin Huang’s luck showed signs of both these aspects!

’What is going on?’ He frowned. ’According to Giant Sun, this kind of situation is too rare. But the vastness of this luck... based on the records, it’s only slightly lower than Red Lotus Demon Venerable’s innate luck. The luck path inheritances praised Red Lotus Demon Venerable for his innate luck, calling it the greatest innate blessing among all the venerables. Of course, Giant Sun could finally surpass that blessing using his luck path methods, but he only had good things to say about this kind of luck.’

A complicated emotion arose in Lo Jik’s heart.

’Great era... dream path... Great Dream Immortal Venerable... and now Feng Jin Huang.’

’With this destined luck, could she be one of the key characters meant to develop dream path... or take things a step further?’

’And... did I just trigger the first of her many fortunes?’

He looked at his own luck and it paled in comparison. It was like comparing an ant to an elephant.

Lo Jik’s gaze glimmered coldly.

’I can connect her luck with mine.’

He turned and looked at Feng Jin Huang’s sleeping face. Loose strands of golden hair covered her lips slightly as she slept on her sides and facing him. She snored softly and always denied that she did. To her, the idea of snoring in one’s sleep so inelegantly was out of the question. But she did. The red birthmark on her forehead tied her beauty together into something charming and pure.

’There are other ways of making use of this luck.’ Lo Jik dispelled his earlier intentions as he brushed her loose strands away. ’And... am I that pathetic? To sneak away her luck? I have the confidence in making her see my way after a good-hearted conversation.’

Lo Jik smiled softly and shot the towering luck a plain look.

It’s just luck.

That’s all.
