Chapter 280: New Challenger
A grand mountain stood tall in the central region of Center Continent. It was once too tall to be completely seen by the naked eye, its peak piercing past the cloud and reaching the limits of the sky. It was once too wide and spanned for thousands of meters.
Now, it was still tall but visible before the blanket of clouds. It was still wide, but it did not put hundreds of mountains to shame with its size. In the hearts of Central Continent’s gu masters and gu immortals, it was still their number one mountain.
Tian Ti Mountain!
Their Tian Ti!
One could not underestimate the destruction caused by Lo Jik’s ascension. He drew out too much earth qi, greatly damaging the mountain veins. He attracted too much heaven qi, causing the size of the mountain from the top to shrink.
Humans had veins, so did mountains. These mountain veins were not tangible veins but a network of earth qi among other things transporting nourishment throughout the surface, causing wildlife and vegetation to flourish. By damaging these mountain veins and drawing in too much earth qi, Lo Jik caused the mountain to turn significantly dull and lifeless.
The project of repairing this mountain was truly too expensive, and that’s why Heavenly Court did not even think Lo Jik could come close to repairing it. Why they still insisted on Lo Jik being the one to do it was up to one’s own interpretation. After all, Heavenly Court could not be questioned.
Currently, groups of tents formed a massive encampment. All these tents were rank 3 house-type gu worms as several gu masters resided on Tian Ti’s foot. They would sleep at night and move out in the morning, climbing Tian Ti in hopes of salvaging true inheritances. A larger group instead wailed as if their mothers had been beaten to death by someone. They slapped their chests and cried loudly, causing a grand commotion.
Central Continent was too large and it had only been a little over two months since Tian Ti got in such a shape. Hearing this news, many gu masters and even mortals started travelling towards the center. However, they were too far away. They only started gathering now in large waves. Some groups would take even longer to arrive. So, their shock could be understood. But most gu masters were also hoping for this change in Tian Ti Mountain to trigger inheritances or make it easier for them to discover clues.
Due to the change in heaven qi and earth qi around the mountain, the fog did not condense around the mountain after a while. Usually, the mountain would be covered by fog for half-a-year, making it extremely dangerous for others to climb it due to several beast groups rising on the mountain.
Now?
The mountain was safer to climb during the day. But winds howled at night while clouds seemed to descend upon Tian Ti, forcing others to quickly leave. Even the beast groups would get more agitated at night, making it extremely dangerous for gu masters to continue their treasure hunting.
"Ah! Look! An immortal inheritance."
Several nearby gu masters stood and witnessed an immortal sight. A beautiful and lavish gate appeared followed by a bright light. Many experienced gu masters had heard or read of this event and felt their pulses quicken. It truly was a door to a blessed land!
The door opened slightly as everyone held their breaths.
*Step*
A tall and well-built man in loose brown robes stepped out. The sleeves of his robes and the ends of his trousers were wrapped in white bandages, giving him a more martial-arts’ fanatic appearance. His hair swayed with the wind as he glanced sideways onto the shorter and gloomier woman.
She was Ju Lin.
And her head was shaven neatly once again!
"Chin up, Little Lin. I’m doing this for your good. Now you can meet your lover without hair on your head and test how sincere he is with his affection. Remember? I was bald. And I still got laid all the time."
Ju Lin had grown and, fortunately, was mature for her age. Otherwise, she would have truly tried to comprehend great dao in every scummy thing her master did for his own entertainment.
’But... it’s not a bad idea. Master truly is wise.’ She thought secretly, wondering what Beng Jiang would think. Would he still like her?
The tall man was none other than Lo Jik.
The door behind them closed as he observed his surroundings. Tian Ti was made from square-shaped rocks reclining on each other. The flat surface facing the sky grew lush grass while several flying beasts made the upper steps of the mountain their home. There were also trees around him. Each step was extremely huge and wide. Most beasts on the mountain were either flying creatures or more dexterous ones such as monkeys and even rarer mutated beasts like demon frogs.
The step around Hu Immortal Blessed Land’s entrance was more cleared out. There was even a formation around the entrance, allowing gu immortals to enter the blessed land discreetly. However, Lo Jik chose to make a public appearance.
His appearance instantly attracted everyone’s attention.
’Eleven gu masters and three of them are rank 4.’ Ju Lin narrowed her eyes. She had succeeded in her test and was Lo Jik’s sole disciple. She was awarded by a razor to her scalp. Jokes aside, she also spent the last year studying and cultivating. Her lifebound vital gu had also changed to the Human Champion series, unaware of the Unchained Champion series.
Lo Jik observed the group and smiled softly.
"Gather everyone at the foot of the mountain. I have an announcement to make."
Other gu masters couldn’t reply, still in a daze. The most striking thing about Lo Jik was not his appearance but the legendary Love Gu colonizing his shoulder. Each gu master saw something different in Love Gu and felt mesmerized by it. They did not even notice the aura of Lo Jik’s cultivation as he chuckled helplessly.
’Hmm. This should do it.’
Lo Jik’s eyes flashed as he activated several rank 5 gu worms. Howls of countless beasts instantly echoed and shook Tian Ti Mountain. He had activated a number of gu worms meant to irritate the beasts. This should create some chaos and force every gu master to descend.
Lo Jik stepped past the dazed group as they shuddered and hurriedly followed Lo Jik down as cold sweat dripped down their foreheads.

Every gu master and mortal kowtowed on the ground with nervous expressions. They had been causing a lot of commotion earlier, but now they were covered in a cold sweat. Before them, exuding a grand aura, stood a quiet gu immortal. Many of these gu masters, especially rank 5 lone gu master, knew of this man. Most of them were paid a lot of resources, including a rank 5 gu worm or two, by other sect leaders to come here and play the crowd’s emotions. These rank 5 gu worms held an immense attraction to rank 5 gu masters who were unable to refine any in the past.
Now, however, they regretted their greed.
"Raise your head, raise your head." Lo Jik spoke gently and waved his hand. An invisible force helped the crowd to their feet. He wasn’t forceful. When helping the elderly up, he spent more time and patience, as if afraid the sudden movement might hurt them. To everyone’s shock, Lo Jik suddenly cupped his fist and bowed.
"I understand everyone’s pain and suffering. My name is Gu Yue Lo Jik, and I’m here to repair Tian Ti Mountain to the best of my abilities."
Everyone already felt that this man was not simple. Many mortals who were once in awe of rank 5 gu masters earlier watched the same gu masters at the peak of mortal cultivation sweating bullets and kowtowing, begging for mercy.
An immortal!
It must be!
All mortals and inexperienced gu masters were moved.
This was a gu immortal?
But he was neither arrogant or cruel. Many of the rank 5 gu masters in the crowd had fearsome reputations. Yet, a gu immortal, someone whose strength surpassed their wildest imaginations, acted so humble and polite. He was kind to strong and weak. The way he helped many old folks reminded them of their children. Their eyes reddened with emotions.
Lo Jik didn’t stop here. His back was still bent.
"I am not doing this out of kindness. I’m a selfish man, but even my heart couldn’t endure this disaster. I was forced to ascend on Tian Ti Mountain, which led to countless tragedies."
Lo Jik’s voice choked with emotions as a few gu masters couldn’t help but clench their fists and grit their teeth. Many lives were lost indeed, and the relatives of these dead and buried gu masters felt viscous, almost tangible, hatred towards Lo Jik. Yet, they tried concealing it to the best of their abilities.
Others also fell in a daze before realizing Lo Jik caused this mess!
"I’m here to repent!" Lo Jik’s loud voice resounded. He straightened his back and spoke with tears flowing down his cheeks. "Not only did I cause anguish to many of you, I also stole your fortuitous encounters. Who knows how many of you were fated to climb Tian Ti and eventually uncover inheritances. Who knows how many among you were meant to become gu masters. Who knows how many of you were meant to surpass your predecessors!"
Lo Jik cried profusely.
"I stole lives! I stole your future!"
"But!"
Lo Jik stared at everyone fiercely. Others could not meet his gaze any longer. Wherever he looked, mortals or gu masters, they would quickly look down and evade his line of sight.
"I will repent!"
"Hear my solemn vow, everyone! I promise you all, under heaven’s witness, I shall stay on this mountain for the next fifty years repenting! I will personally build many inheritances on this mountain and spread relevant clues, among which will be my own, Gu Yue Lo Jik’s, true immortal inheritance!"
"For the next five years, I shall personally awaken everyone’s aperture. Those who were meant to become gu masters shall rise and will receive a one-time stipend of 200 primeval stones and your first gu worms! Not only that, I will impart everyone with my own strength path gu recipe. Today, I will release rank 1 recipe. When the time is ripe, I will release more recipes. These will all be top-rate gu worms!"
"These are not empty promises."
Lo Jik waved his hand again.
A wave of bright-green light shot out of his palms like a tide and rushed outwards. Everyone’s heart jumped. They wouldn’t be able to defend themselves against a gu immortal if the latter had ill intentions. To their surprise, the light converged in many spots and transformed into several house-type gu worms.
Lo Jik had created a mortal town in an instant!
’This... this is the power of an immortal?!’
Everyone was shocked. Even the corner of Ju Lin’s eyes twitched as she tried to mask her shock. After all, Lo Jik gave her clear instructions of keeping an indifferent face.
"Look there."
Lo Jik pointed at the center of the town and everyone gazed in that direction. There stood a strange house-type gu worm. There had been no records of it and even rank 5 gu masters were puzzled.
On the plaque of this residence was one word—Hope!
"That is Hope Palace. That is where all of you, who wish to become a gu master, must enter. This is Ju Lin. She is my only disciple. From now on, Ju Lin will reside in Hope Palace. She will be in charge of dispensing the earlier mentioned rewards."
Everyone gulped. Those wailing mortals no longer shed any tears. Instead, their eyes were bright. Even people near their deaths, who never received an opportunity of awakening their apertures, wanted to give it a shot.
A chill spread through everyone’s spine just as they were about to cheer. The sky around Tian Ti Mountain darkened while a bone-chilling cackle shook mortals and gu masters alike. Ju Lin turned pale and as her soul shivered.
Lo Jik looked up and observed the patch of pitch-black clouds. The clouds roiled and tumbled into each other like turbulent waves and did not stay peaceful. A cold voice emerged from the clouds.
"I once benefitted from Tian Ti Mountain and became a gu immortal. Hmph! You wish to persuade others and repent? How shameless. Is this the demeanor of gu immortals from Spirit Affinity House?"
Lo Jik’s gaze flashed coldly as he shook his head and spoke politely.
"Man is as much to be blamed for accidents as heaven. I did not understand the consequences of my ascension. I underestimated my strength and summoned a great disaster instead. For that, I shall repent."
The voice in the cloud laughed coldly.
"Arrogant! Truly arrogant! You dare compare yourself to heaven? You still have the face to praise your own strength? Do you think this will intimidate me?! Hmph! I want to see how strong you are. Do you dare accept my challenge? Do you dare battle me, Fickle Consort Immortal?"
Lo Jik brows creased and furrowed. He stared at the cloud silently before thinning his lips.
"Who might you be, friend?" His tone was slightly warmer while the gu immortal in the cloud smiled. Lo Jik tried investigating the cloud but failed. All this was noticed by the gu immortal inside the clouds. The fact Lo Jik had to lower his head and ask aloud who this man was displayed his lacking foundation in terms of investigating an opponent.
"I am Dark Cloud Immortal, Yin Yun."
Lo Jik’s expression changed slightly.
Yin Yun?
He knew about this cloud path gu immortal. He was a fierce lone gu immortal who had a reputation of killing a rank 6 demonic path gu immortal!
’Furthermore, he already cultivated for some time and successfully passed his second heavenly tribulation. He is of the same level as Jian Yi Sheng, Jun Ki, and Bi Sun.’ Earlier, Lo Jik plotted Jun Ki’s downfall because the circumstances were greatly in his favor. But killing a gu immortal was not so easy. And this Yin Yun also had great connections in Wind Cloud Manor. This was obviously the act of other nine ancient sects wanting to discreetly suppress and undermine Spirit Affinity House.
"I have long heard of Brother Yin Yun’s reputation. You killed a demonic path scoundrel. It was a virtuous deed. I understand your anger, Brother. Yes, we shall spar. I hope this exchange of pointers transforms into a beautiful friendship as we continue chasing and hunting demonic path scoundrels. But as you can see, I’m quite busy at this moment."
Yin Yun sneered within his cloud. He roused Lo Jik but also secretly transmitted to him.
"No need to put airs, Fickle Consort. I’m here to challenge you and you very well understand I won’t leave. Let’s discuss our wager."
"Brother Dark Cloud is straightforward and dragon amongst men," Lo Jik praised smilingly. "You truly understand the way of things. What do you plan on putting up as a wager?"
Yin Yun fell silent for a moment before speaking softly.
"It hasn’t been long since you advanced. Your need for resources is also momentarily appeased with that Bandit Giant innovation of yours. I propose we wager our innovations. My gu recipes for rank 1-5 Cloud Phantom Gu for your gu recipes for rank 1-5 strength path Champion Gu."
Lo Jik blinked.
"I did not deduce any—"
"Oh, Fickle Consort. It is you who must understand the way of things. Your innovations were bound to be exposed the moment you revealed them. Tell me, do you dare accept this wager?"
Lo Jik fell silent while momentarily impressed by Wind Cloud Manor’s speed at collecting this information. It momentarily surpassed other sects who specialized in this aspect before Lo Jik realized the truth. Wind Cloud Manor had Heavenly Informant. Heavenly Informant never lost track of Lo Jik and was able to collect these secrets. Other sects will soon deduce a few things too.
Besides, the Battle Champion Series was never meant to be hidden.
’Wind Cloud Manor also wants to capitalize on this gu worm’s advantages... or rather, it wants to balance Spirit Affinity House’s advantages early on.’
’And this Cloud Phantom Gu is also interesting.’ Lo Jik’s cloud path attainment was at grandmaster level but he never had the chance of cultivating it. Meanwhile, Cloud Phantom allowed gu master to create fake, phantom-like clones made from cloud path dao marks. He had an intuition that Cloud Phantom Gu series would reduce his effort in refining a human path clone capable of cultivating cloud path.
"I accept, Brother Yin Yun. Please go easy on me."
Lo Jik soon acted as if he was persuaded by Dark Cloud Immortal for the battle before flying up with a grim expression.
Still, he glanced down and smiled at everyone.
"Enter Hope Palace and start making true on my promise, Ju Lin. This won’t take long."
"Haha! Big words, Fickle Consort. I hope you can live up to them."
They did not battle near Tian Ti and flew away, leaving the crowd dazed before they reeled from excitement!
After all, they saw two gu immortals!
