Chapter 469: Target
So, having a way to heal themselves faster and restore their energy was pleasant surprise.
Seeing that there wasn’t any more excitement, Lu Tao swiftly left the base entrance and headed inside to check how their house in the underground city was coming along.
Unlike on the surface, the Lu family occupied three apartments in the underground city.
These apartments weren’t very big, but they had almost everything. Moreover, they were built in different sizes and individuals or families could rent an apartment depending on their capabilities or needs.
As the base commanders, Leng Pan and Lu Zhen didn’t need to rent and could choose the houses they wanted to live in.
They chose three apartments built close together.
Two were adjacent to each other while one was on the opposite side.
Leng Pan and Lu Zhen shared one apartment with one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and bathroom.
Uncle Li and Auntie Li also had their own apartment while Li Yunjia and her two unmarried sons shared one with two bedrooms.
Lu Tao and Lu Hao shared one bedroom. Luckily, it was big enough and everything had their own little space.
After touring the apartments, Lu Tao went back home to urge his sister-in-law to come down with him and help furnish the houses because they were too bare.
When he walked into the apartment, he found Ouyang Jin, Momo, Su Yan, Sonny, and ZaiZai there discussing the issue of aliens beginning to infiltrate human bases.
"I don’t think they are just here to scout. They should be after something." Momo said with a serious expression that is usually not seen on her face.
"They should be after the catalyst core." Leng Pan said solemnly.
"How did they find out about it?" ZaiZai asked curiously, then as if thinking of something, he added, "Is that thing even here?"
Everyone else in the room was exasperated by his slow uptake.
Even though Leng Pan and her family had tried to hide it’s existence, the regular bursts of power they helps superpower users to level up inexplicably had already given it away.
Only a fool wouldn’t realize it.
As it turned out, there was a fool among them.
"It’s probably more than just the catalyst core." Vanish added as he walked in behind Lu Tao.
Everyone turned to look at him.
"What do you mean?" Su Yan asked with a frown.
"Do you remember the laboratory I was held in inside the military base? They were researching some kind of drug that could enhance superpower users at a short time. Moreover, they wanted to find ways to extract abilities from superpower users and plant them in others. Even though the experiment was not mature, the drug to enhance abilities was already in the testing phase and it responded positively to us. However, when we escaped, we took everything with us and burned the lab. They probably don’t know that we took the data and the drugs, but the experimental subjects are still a great asset, they might be searching for us." Vanish explained remembering how they had been pursued after escaping from the lab.
He wasn’t naive enough to believe that Commander Qui and those partnering with him, be it humans or aliens would give up so easily.
It had been months since their escape and the reason they heard nothing about it was probably because the people involved were searching discreetly.
"So, have they confirmed that the people who escaped are here and are coming for them?" Sonny, who usually doesn’t speak much asked with a thoughtful look.
"It’s hard to say. They may still be searching blindly, but they may also have sufficient information to pinpoint their base as the correct location. We will have to wait and see. Let’s not beat the bush and scare the snake." Lu Zhen said as he took hold of his wife’s soft little hand and began to play with her delicate fingers unconsciously.
He liked the feeling of her hands. They were small and tender and he especially liked it when they roamed around his body.
This stray thought caused him to shudder in excitement before reigning in the beast rising inside him threatening to break free.
Ever since he first tasted meat, he finds it difficult to control himself around his wife, especially when they are not in the midst of a life and death battle.
Like at that moment, even though they were discussing something significant, he wanted nothing more than to whisk his wife away and explore every inch of her again the same way he had done countless times already.
Leng Pan seemed to sense his restlessness and tried to pull her hand back.
This man was insatiable. If he didn’t tire her to the point of collapse everyday, he wouldn’t be satisfied.
She wondered how he had managed to stay a virgin until they got married.
"By the way, is there a way to utilize those drugs you brought back to enhance the strength of the entire base?" Momo asked the question that almost every superpower user there wanted to ask.
"There wasn’t a research department when we brought them back before, but now that it had been established, I submitted the data and materials a few days ago. We should have results soon. After all, the amount of drug obtained from the lab was limited. If it could be replicated and reproduced, it would be great." Vanish explained his recent endeavors.
"That’s good. Let’s hope for good news soon." Leng Pan said with a sigh.
She had realized that even though they had experience in surviving the apocalypse, it wasn’t an absolute advantage. After all, some of the reincarnated individuals still insisted on standing on the other side of humanity, like Commander Qui.
"Since there is a finished product and all the data regarding the experiment was brought back, it should be easier for the researchers here to make progress." Sonny said slowly.
Indeed, with all the data, if the people in the lab couldn’t come up with results soon, then they don’t deserve the investment the base had put into them.
"Okay, let’s go prepare to enter the underground city. I don’t think we have too much time for leisure." Momo said while standing up to stretch and leave.
