Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 472: The Night Visit

After walking out of the entrance of the base, Lu Zhen called out to the empty air around him.

"Come out."

If anyone were here, they would wonder who he was calling, but soon rustling sounds were heard from the side and a large white wolf suddenly appeared.

It was actually Shade.

Turns out that since the last battle, since everyone knew about him, he hadn’t stayed in Leng Pan’s bangle space very much.

He usually roams around but since it’s consciousness is connected with Lu Zhen, it would respond and come back once summoned.

Like today. Lu Zhen had summoned it as soon as he left the underground city and by the time he reached the entrance, the wolf was already waiting.

Lu Zhen swiftly climbed on the back of the wolf and urged it to move forward.

Sharing a consciousness, the wolf could tell where it’s master wanted to go, so it took off running in a particular direction.

The two traveled for almost an hour before stopping in an abandoned building.

It wasn’t abandoned because it was ruined, but because there wasn’t a human survivor settlement nearby.

So, even though the building was intact even after being battered by the disasters of the apocalypse, it was left unoccupied.

The building was dark, yet Lu Zhen walked inside as if he could see in the dark, which he surprisingly could.

Maybe it was the perk of having a wolf as a contract beast, but he had some of its qualities.

As he walked, the ground made crunching sounds as mud that had dried on the floor after the flood broke under his boot.

Anyone else would have been scared from this sound alone because it felt as if a ghost was walking in the night.

Yet, Lu Zhen didn’t flinch.

He climbed the stairs to the top floor and stood outside a door.

It was surprising how he knew that this house was occupied unlike the others.

After a minute of waiting, the door was pulled open and a handsome man stood there looking at Lu Zhen with a raised eyebrow.

"Didn’t expect you to come looking for me so soon." The man said.

"It took you long enough to get dressed." Lu Zhen shot back.

Both of them knew what he meant when he said, ’get dressed.’

"Well, I have to be presentable in front of guests." The man didn’t seem to mind Lu Zhen’s mockery.

"Mhmm." Lu Zhen just hummed and walked into the house.

Without another word, he conjured a ball of flame and let it float near the ceiling to illuminate the house.

The place was pretty clean and the furniture arranged carefully.

It seemed that the owner had high aesthetic standards.

That was true, otherwise, how could he wear such a handsome face?

"Why did you come?" The man asked Lu Zhen after taking the seat opposite him.

"Some people I don’t trust are getting close to her." Lu Zhen just gave a statement and the man understood.

"Hiding the catalyst core now doesn’t help. Those in need to know are already aware that it’s in your possession. They just don’t know who between you two has it." The man explained, leaning back on the chair.

"Then make them believe that I have it." Lu Zhen said confidently.

"You have so much faith in me?" The man asked with a derisive laugh.

"Otherwise, how could you claim to want to protect her if you can’t even accomplish such a small thing?" Lu Zhen shot back arrogantly.

"Mmph...she is yours, yet you want me to protect her when you get all the benefits. How sly." The man said indignantly.

"Then how about you go show yourself to her and see if she chooses you?" Lu Zhen didn’t even blink as he challenged.

"You are just as arrogant as always. Only this time you are more confident." The man observed.

"I have the capital to be confident." Lu Zhen replied.

It sounded like a banter between old time friends.

"Alright, I will help. But just to be safe, take this." The man tossed a small stone to Lu Zhen.

Lu Zhen caught it easily and looked at it again and again but it looked just like a regular pebble.

However, he was aware that this person wouldn’t just toss him a pebble for fun.

So, he turned his gaze to him.

"It has a small space inside. Not large, just about the size of a basketball court. Use the method you usually use to absorb crystal cores to assimilate it within you. That way, it will be a part of you and when you are together, even if she uses her space, no one will be able to distinguish who used it because yours will react as well."

Lu Zhen hadn’t expected this trip to bring such a benefit. He was very happy about it and smiled for the first time since he came.

"Thank you." There was no need for too many words.

"You can leave now. Don’t bother me." The man on the other seat waved his hand and gave Lu Zhen the eviction order.

Lu Zhen didn’t mind his rude behavior and just nodded to him before walking out.

He climbed down the stairs again and climbed on the back of Shade before going back the same way they came.

The man on the top floor stood near the window and watched as Lu Zhen disappeared into the horizon.

Then, he walked back to the seat he was in earlier and sat down again.

"I hope you can protect her better this time." He muttered to himself before his body began to twist and change.

Lu Zhen rode his wolf back to the base and instead of headed straight back to the underground city, he went back to the apartment he had been sharing with Leng Pan.

Even though most of the furniture had been taken, the large sofa was left behind in case someone needed to use it.

Lu Zhen walked straight to the sofa after locking the door behind him and sat down cross-legged.
