Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 485: History Repeating Itself

"Baby, how about you just tell us?" Lu Zhen couldn’t guess indeed.

So, he decided to be straightforward and ask directly.

"None of those locusts are zombies. Why is that? Even though they have mutated and are larger than normal, none of them have zombified." Leng Pan raised her eyebrows as she spoke.

Now Lu Zhen found it intriguing as well.

This was indeed a fact they had subconsciously overlooked.

"If the locusts had eaten the zombies in so many places, why do they not carry the zombie virus?" Lu Zhen asked this question subconsciously.

"Exactly, why? Is it because they are immune to the zombie virus, or they never ate the zombies in the first place?" Leng Pan followed with her thoughts.

"Which do you think is right?" Lu Zhen turned his handsome face to her and asked.

Looking at the enlarged face in front of her, Leng Pan’s heart skipped a beat.

She couldn’t understand how this face could still seduce her even after a year and half of marriage.

It feels like she would never tire of looking at it.

Leng Pan quickly shook her head to get rid of those distracting thoughts from her mind.

"To be honest, I can’t figure it out. It is a fact that wherever the locusts passed, everything disappeared. We have seen them even try to gnaw on stones. We know they have eaten all the vegetation. But what about humans and zombies? We hid in the underground city fast enough the first time they showed up. So, we have no ideas whether they eat people. And we haven’t seen many zombies even after leaving the base. So, we assumed that the locusts had eaten them as well. But, what if they hadn’t?" Leng Pan asked thoughtfully.

"Then we now have another task to figure out where the zombies have disappeared to. Were they eaten by the locusts, and if so, why have they remained unaffected? If not, where are they hiding?" Lu Zhen indeed agreed with his wife.

It was strange for the locusts to remain so robust after traversing the apocalyptic world for so long.

"Do you remember the first battle we engaged with the aliens in the stadium?" Leng Pan suddenly asked.

"I remember. We were on our way back from the testing center." Lu Zhen of course remembered that battle.

It was the first time they realized aliens were using humans as voluntary experimental subjects and stripping them off their emotions to turn them into emotionless soldiers meant for killing. Not knowing that they would be turned against fellow humans.

"In that battle, there were many zombies and they followed the commands of the alien Commander." Leng Pan pointed out.

"Are you suggesting that the zombies have been rallied by the aliens and hidden as part of their army?" Lu Zhen asked with furrowed brows.

His concerns were not unfounded. That had happened before, so it wasn’t surprising if it happens again.

"Don’t forget, in the ancient earth during the first apocalypse, they did the same thing. In the big battle, we ended up losing and sacrificing everything to eliminate the army of aliens, zombies, and monsters combined." Leng Pan reminded him of the past Lu Zhen wished he could forget.

In fact, it’s not that he hadn’t thought of it when she mentioned aliens controlling zombies.

However, everytime he thought of that battle, he remembered how she had pushed him into the city and closed the gates while she remained outside to face that army alone.

He could never forget the destructive tsunami she had conjured that not only swallowed the enemy, but also burned her life force.

If possible, he wished he could forget that past. Unfortunately, as long as the apocalypse didn’t end and the aliens weren’t repelled for good, that history would remain an open wound in his heart.

"So, is history repeating itself?" Lu Zhen asked softly. Almost as if he was talking to himself.

But Leng Pan heard him. She knew that her death in the first apocalypse was a thorn in his heart and she would like to not bring it up.

However, if they were to fight this apocalypse and win, they needed to draw lessons from their previous incarnation.

The battles they fought that time were invaluable lessons and if applied correctly, they would win without sacrificing too much.

She wasn’t going to promise a war without sacrifices. There has never been such a good thing.

Victory is always win by stepping on the bodies of the fallen, whether comrade or enemy.

However, she could try to minimize the losses as much as possible.

"Not necessarily. Let’s first find out what is happening before we decide what steps to take after that. We are stronger now and with the new creations from Uncle and the researchers in the base, humanity have a higher chance of winning." Leng Pan comforted him.

"You are right, but we shouldn’t leave some things to chance. We have to take care of those traitors. We don’t have to show ourselves, but they must go in order to server the connection between humans and aliens." Lu Zhen’s face hardened as he said this.

He could not forget that they had lost in the last war of the first apocalypse because of traitors among humans.

And those traitors had allied themselves with the enemy once more.

They had been given a chance to regret and turn back to the right path, but their thirst for power was far greater than their conviction to protect humanity.

In that case, there was no need to keep them around anymore.

"What about the top?" Leng Pan asked with some difficulty.

"From information gathered by Sonny, he is involved and even provided resources." She added, feeling a bit conflicted.

"Baby, you shouldn’t feel conflicted about this." It had to be said that Lu Zhen knew his wife well.

Just one look and he knew what she was thinking.

"Anyone who poses a threat to humanity is an enemy. They should be eliminated."
