Chapter 484: Eating Zombies
Lu Zhen had never felt so frustrated in his life. But he had to swallow this frustration and keep piling up stuff that might never be used again.
At night, the group set up a few foldable beds in the garage and squeezed in together.
However, Lu Zhen would not let his sweetheart suffer so much.
So, he used some mosquito net stands he couldn’t remember who collected them and hang black curtains around it. Completely isolating the space where he and Leng Pan were supposed to sleep.
Once they were sure no one could see them, Leng Pan set up an extra barrier with her mist then the two entered her space.
It had been a while since the slept in the bedroom inside the space. But today, they understood the fortune they had for having it.
Moreover, the residue energy from the catalyst core was still abundant and they were rejuvenated shortly after entering the space.
Now, they didn’t have to worry about waking up tired if they engaged in some love activities.
Thus, Lu Zhen let himself go all the way to the wee hours of the morning.
Only then did the two fall asleep.
Nonetheless, when they woke up, it was eight in the morning. An hour before the locusts passed through.
After breakfast, the group set up the same trap like the day before and even adjusted the net to catch more locusts.
Just like the day before, once the larger swarm had left, Leng Pan dehydrated the ones left in the net before it was unfolded.
Because of the earlier adjustments, they had caught nearly a tonne and half of locusts on one go.
With the experience from the previous day, the team packed the locusts and Leng Pan stored them under Lu Zhen’s cover.
"Should we move forward or are we going to keep catching locusts here?" Blaze, who usually stayed quiet when within this large group asked.
He still felt guilty about investigating Lu Zhen and Leng Pan before under Commander Qui’s orders.
Especially after he found out about the commander’s use of citizens and even soldiers for human experimentation to help the aliens.
Even though Lu Zhen told him not to blame himself since he was a soldier and following orders was his duty, he still couldn’t forgive himself yet.
However, his mood seemed to have improved since they set off from the base.
"We can catch locusts anywhere. We need to keep moving. We already found what we were looking for here, so there is no need to stay any longer." Leng Pan informed them.
"Then we should dismantle this net and carry it with us. What is we can’t find more materials to make another net ahead?" Lu Tao suggested while rising to help dismantle the net.
Lu Zhen didn’t even bother to complain now.
He knew that whether he complained or not, his younger brother would still have him store the net.
He wondered when his younger brother had gotten so brazen? He used to look at him like a mouse seeing a cat before. But now, he even dared to make him collect junk.
The net was dismantled within twenty minutes and rolled up. This way, it wouldn’t take much space during storage.
Once they were ready, the group got into their vehicles and proceeded with their journey.
The best thing about this journey was that they hadn’t set a fixed destination.
They went wherever their mood took them. As long as they could find the meteorites they were looking for, anywhere within their country was fine.
"Do you think other places are as deserted as the town we just left?" Leng Pan asked Lu Zhen, sitting at the back of the car together.
Today, Lu Tao was driving. Even though in normal times he would not be of age to drive, in the apocalypse, the more skills one had, the better.
So, Lu Zhen had insisted he learned how to drive early on and now he was on par with racers.
"I doubt it. I still think something must have happened in that town for it to be so empty. " Lu Zhen replied thoughtfully.
"Maybe the locals went to a base and the town was overrun by zombies who were then consumed by the locusts?" Lu Tao, at the driver’s seat suggested.
"I feel like there is something we have overlooked." Leng Pan said with a furrowed brow.
"No need to stress yourself, Baby. You will remember when the time comes."
Seeing his wife scrunching her face in deep thought, Lu Zhen felt his heart ached and he stretched his hand to smooth her brows.
"No, I am not stressing myself. Don’t worry." Leng Pan took Lu Zhen’s hand and held it on her lap as she played with his fingers.
Yet, she still felt they were overlooking something significant.
Seeing that she wouldn’t stop, Lu Zhen let her be and just let her hold his hand.
His little wife was stubborn. Once she put her mind to something, she won’t stop until she achieved the results she wanted.
He saw no need in discouraging her now.
Lu Tao had also come to understand his sister-in-law, so, he remained quiet as well and concentrated on driving.
"Right. I finally remembered." Leng almost jumped from her seat and slapped her thigh as she spoke.
She had shouted so suddenly that she shocked Lu Tao who nearly drove the car into a ditch.
Luckily, he had become accustomed to sudden situations happening and he quickly brought the car under control.
"What is it that you remembered?" Lu Zhen laughed at the way she was acting so excited like a child who finally found the beloved toy they had lost.
"Didn’t you notice something when we caught the locusts?" Leng Pan asked mysteriously.
"They are larger than normal and fatter?" Lu Zhen decided to indulge her.
The real reason was of course, that he truly hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
"That is a fact, but what else did you notice?"
