Chapter 483: Deserted Town
So, he walked over to the pile of locusts and took one before pulling it apart.
Luckily, the abdomen part of these mutated locusts wasn’t filled with waste but fat.
It was surprising how so much fat came to be there.
Due to dehydration, flakes of white fat fell with the pull.
Lu Zhen seemed to want to exonerate his wife completely. Thus, he took a couple of locusts and controlled his flame to roast them.
Of course, it was better to roast them in a pan, but using open flame wasn’t a crime.
As he roasted them, the group watched as drops of fat dripped to the ground.
Moreover, the aroma of those locusts was overwhelming.
Even someone like Lu Zhen who wouldn’t look at such things was tempted to eat.
Just to be safe, the first two locusts he roasted were given to Shade.
After all, it was a wolf and since it had been circling the locusts with a greedy expression, it wasn’t hard to know that it wanted to eat.
In that case, these locusts were safe at least for animals to eat.
Shade are the two locusts in one bite.
"How is it?" Lu Zhen asked curiously.
"Awoooh...." Shade howled with his head facing the sky.
Others might not understand, but as its master, Lu Zhen understood.
It was praising his cooking skills.
However, Lu Zhen knew that there were no cooking skills to speak of in roasting locusts. It was just their natural flavor.
"They are safe to eat." He informed the others.
Thus, the group got to work in packaging locusts.
"I hope others realize that this is a windfall and catch as many as possible." Leng Pan commented while helping in packaging the locusts, which then went into her space under Lu Zhen’s cover.
Since her space could preserve freshness, these locusts would stay the same for as long as they are within it.
"They will. People are already too hungry and some have started eating tree bark. There is no way they would let so much meat go to waste. Once one person finds out, more will follow." Sonny, who disappeared and appeared like a ghost spoke.
He usually went out to do gather intelligence and unlike Vanish who could literally stay invisible, Sonny had developed this skill.
He could be within the group yet no one would feel his presence if he chose to hide.
So, he knew more about the outside world than many of them.
"Sonny is right. People are locusts even before the apocalypse. They might be intimidated by the size at first, but once they realize that it is a source of food they could harvest without much danger once they determine how to catch them, these locusts would probably go extinct." Ouyang Jin nodded as he spoke. As if to give his words more credibility.
"Then we should catch as many as we can before they disappear. We have many mourgs to feed and the amount of supplies we have is a drop in the ocean." Leng Pan encouraged everyone.
Apart from her family, the others still didn’t know about her space. At least, they didn’t know crops could be planted inside or animals could be raised.
Unfortunately for Leng Pan, even she had found out about planting and raising animals after the apocalypse began.
Hence, she hadn’t bought live animals. Only Shade had been living there and now the dragons.
Yet, she also hoped that during their journey, they might come across non mutated livestock, which she could raise in the space bangle.
This way, their grain independence and meat will be achieved.
"Then let’s set up the net again after collecting these." Vanish suggested and everyone agreed with him.
Thus, after all the locusts were packaged in huge garbage bags and stored in the space bangle, the net was unfurled and set up again.
It would wait for the morning of the next day for the next catch.
"Let’s check out the town. We might find some useful items forgotten by the former residents." Su Yan suggested.
She still wanted to know why this town was deserted even by zombies.
The group got into their cars and grove slowly towards the town.
One couldn’t help being doubtful since this town was completely empty of any being. Not even zombies.
As for aliens, those creatures knew how to hide and might even be watching them from the dark.
However, with their current strength, Leng Pan and Lu Zhen were sure that if anyone wanted to watch them in secret they wouldn’t succeed.
Their sensitivity had increased with their increase in power. So, unless one was much stronger than them or used some other covert methods to observe, they couldn’t hide.
After driving around inside the town, the group found nothing.
So, they walked into the different shops and collected anything they deemed useful. Whether it was of use at that moment or in the future.
Before, they had to worry about the space in the car being too small when they went to scavenge. But now that Lu Zhen had a space, they didn’t need to worry about it anymore.
So, they could take anything they collected.
That was how Lu Zhen found himself piling furniture, plastic containers, agricultural machines, oil pressing machines and other things he would never have looked at in his space.
What’s more, he couldn’t say no. He had tried to tell ZaiZai who brought the oil-pressing machine that it was an unnecessary scap metal that took up space, but he was shut down with the excuse that these were non-renewable products.
Once the current stock was depleted, no more were manufactured. So, they had to collect as many as possible to prevent themselves from going back to the dark era of using stone mills for everything.
The problem was, he couldn’t argue with that. So, now he even had microwaves, radios, television sets, refrigerators, and other electronics in his space.
He wouldn’t be surprised if someone brought a handheld plow.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, he saw his two brothers carrying a plow walking with some difficulty towards him.
No way! Was his mouth really that useful?
