Chapter 242: Representing Mrs. Cen
"You don’t actually think my project is a bad fit for your companies. You’re just taking your cues from her!
A bunch of grown men, taking orders from some young girl. I really have to wonder how you all ended up as Dijing’s Four Great Families!
You’ll definitely regret not investing in my project!"
With that, he snatched back the documents he’d just handed to Yun Zijin and the others, and stormed off.
Yun Zijin turned to Lu Yunque, looking a little baffled. "What did he mean by that?"
’Sheng Hao and the others are taking their cues from me?’
’How on earth did he come to that conclusion?’
"It means he’s triggered."
Sheng Hao offered the perfect summary.
’Okay, Ke Hong’s reaction just now really did seem like he was triggered.’
"So, the reason you all decided not to invest is...?"
"A project like this has absolutely no investment value."
While some of his previous research was interesting, it wasn’t very practical.
The investment project he showed them this time was, of all things, a fully automatic clothes-drying rack. By the time the rack finished extending on its own, they could have already hung up all their clothes.
No one had any idea where he got the nerve to bring a project like that to them.
’Okay, they really were being tactful earlier. But that guy was definitely triggered.’
"So, are there any projects you guys are excited about today? If the mountain won’t come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain."
Yun Zijin didn’t want them to miss out on good investment opportunities just because they were busy helping her with the negotiations with Mr. Tang.
The four of them, Lu Yunque included, simultaneously turned to look toward the center of the banquet hall. Their eyes landed on the person surrounded by the largest crowd.
"Who’s that?"
"Yu Shuosheng."
Lu Yunque supplied the name.
"Never heard of him."
This highlighted the information gap between Yun Zijin and scions of prominent families like Lu Yunque.
"He’s our main target, but he’s too crowded right now. We’ll wait."
"All four of you are trying to win over one person? You’re not going to end up fighting, are you?"
’If the project isn’t big enough, they’ll each want to take it all for themselves.’
"It just comes down to who’s more capable."
Lu Yunque gave Yun Zijin a reassuring look.
Yun Zijin wasn’t worried in the slightest. On the contrary, she looked like she was settling in to watch a good show.
"Well then... I wish you all the best of luck."
’With all four of them making a move, she wasn’t about to get in the middle of it.’
"Just you watch, Zijing! I’ll definitely be the one to claim victory today!"
Li Yuexing was already raring to go.
Yun Zijin looked at Lu Yunque. "What about you? Are you confident?"
"Of course."
Lu Yunque playfully scratched Yun Zijin’s palm.
Yun Zijin glared at Lu Yunque but didn’t pull her hand back.
「At 7 p.m.」
The crowd around Yu Shuosheng finally thinned out. Lu Yunque and the other three men stood up at once and started walking in his direction.
Not wanting to get involved, Yun Zijin didn’t follow them. She stayed put, content to watch the show from her seat.
However, as the only woman the four men had brought with them, Yun Zijin had already attracted some attention.
As soon as Lu Yunque’s group left to find Yu Shuosheng, someone approached her.
"Hello!"
The newcomer was dressed in a slim-fitting, off-the-shoulder red evening gown, exuding an air of cool sophistication.
But to stand there, looking down at someone while greeting them, was a clear provocation. Yun Zijin simply smiled at her and offered a cool, "Hello."
She made no move to shake her hand.
"My name is Ann Betty. What’s your name?"
’A Hua Country person’s face, but a foreign name,’ Yun Zijin thought, curling her lip.
"Yun Zijin."
"Yun? I don’t think I’ve heard of that surname in Dijing."
"Oh, I grew up in an orphanage."
It was the truth, and Yun Zijin had never felt any need to hide it.
A difficult childhood didn’t mean she was struggling financially now.
"An orphanage? I’m shocked."
"Oh."
Yun Zijin’s response was completely dismissive.
"I came with my own invitation. Which one of them brought you?"
Ann Betty was trying to establish her superiority over Yun Zijin.
"’What a coincidence,’ Yun Zijin replied in a sing-song voice. ’I brought my own invitation, too.’"
Ann Betty’s expression stiffened, but she wasn’t about to give up.
"Is that so? Then what company are you representing?"
Yun Zijin looked at Ann Betty. "You’re representing your company? What company is that?"
"I asked you first."
"I’m unemployed."
Yun Zijin was telling the truth. "Your turn. What company do you represent?"
"Mrs. Cen."
’Mrs. Cen? What kind of company is that?’
Yun Zijin thought for a moment, then something clicked.
’Cen Mulin?’
"Cen Mulin... is she your company’s heiress?"
Hearing Cen Mulin’s name, Ann Betty’s pupils narrowed. "That’s right. It seems you’re not completely clueless."
Yun Zijin curled her lip. ’Is knowing about Mrs. Cen supposed to be some great achievement?’
"Did you come looking for me because of Cen Mulin?"
’Cen Mulin was one of Lu Yunque’s pursuers. She would be furious if she found out I’m his girlfriend now.’
Ann Betty paused, not answering Yun Zijin’s question.
But Yun Zijin didn’t press the issue.
"So... you’ve said all that, but what is it you actually want to ask?"
"You grew up in an orphanage. Do you really think you’re worthy of them?"
"Them?"
’Does she really think I’m some socialite playing the field with all four of them?’
’What is wrong with her brain? Didn’t Mrs. Cen have her head examined before sending her out?’
"I am Lu Yunque’s girlfriend, and his alone. Don’t project your filthy thoughts onto me.
And another thing, do the people at Mrs. Cen know you came to find me?"
’Yun Zijin figured Ann Betty wasn’t the real decision-maker from Mrs. Cen here today. With a brain like hers, she was the type to be sold and still help the buyer count the cash.’
Ann Betty’s expression stiffened at Yun Zijin’s words. She had, in fact, approached her without permission.
She just couldn’t stand seeing Yun Zijin so easily obtain everything she herself had ever dreamed of.
She had only intended to probe into Yun Zijin’s background, but she never expected the girl to just come right out and admit she grew up in an orphanage.
’How stupid!’
"You’re just an orphan! You’re not worthy of even standing next to them! You belong in a shabby little rental, just like your pathetic background!"
"Are you out of your mind? So what if I grew up in an orphanage? Am I living off your dime? The fact that I’m with Lu Yunque and his friends proves I’m qualified to be here!
If you think I’m not worthy of being with them, why don’t you go say hello? See if they even give you the time of day.
Zero One, haul her away and return her to Mrs. Cen’s people."
The moment Yun Zijin finished speaking, Zero One emerged from the shadows and advanced on Ann Betty.
"What is the meaning of this?"
"What does it mean? It means get the hell out!"
Yun Zijin stared directly into Ann Betty’s eyes. Harboring ulterior motives, Ann Betty felt as if Yun Zijin could see right through her.
"You..."
"If you choose to leave on your own, I can tell my bodyguard not to get physical."
Yun Zijin hadn’t moved from her seat the entire time. Yet, even though she was sitting down, Ann Betty felt as though Yun Zijin was looking down on her.
