Chapter 749: Risking My Life to Drink with a Gentleman
After arranging matters with Gao Peng and Kong Lingchuan, Kong Lingwen began discussing details with the company’s senior management. She held the most shares, while Yang Cheng invested through technology shares.
The executives naturally had no objections, as the entire Kong Family was under Kong Lingwen’s control now. Even though the Kong Family had declined somewhat, a skinny camel is still bigger than a horse, and they dared not offend Kong Lingwen.
"We’ve covered almost everything. Yang Cheng already produced the medicine last night. Now, we just need it to pass testing, and we can mass-produce and sell it."
After speaking, Kong Lingwen dismissed the senior executives to their tasks.
Once they left, Kong Lingwen spoke, "Yang Cheng, tonight we’ll entertain the health department leadership for dinner. If the discussion goes well, our paperwork will be expedited."
"Alright, then I’ll call to book a table."
Yang Cheng finished and turned to Cheng Ruonan’s sisters, speaking in a hushed tone, "Stay at the company to help protect Gao Peng and Kong Lingchuan."
Cheng Ruonan pouted unhappily, "I’m your woman! Why should I protect other men? Aren’t you jealous at all?"
Her voice was sweet and alluring, her slender fingers resting on Yang Cheng’s chest, exuding endless charm.
Gao Peng and Kong Lingchuan stood stunned nearby. This woman resembled a succubus!
Just hearing her voice made their bones tingle, as if they might...
They shuddered at the thought. She was Brother Cen’s woman, and meddling would be asking for death.
"Behave, it’s work for me, not for them."
Yang Cheng’s tone was indulgent.
"Then give me a kiss."
Cheng Ruonan wrapped her arms around his neck, her charming eyes filled with allure.
Yang Cheng leaned beside her ear, speaking softly enough only they could hear, "Stop it, we’re outside. I’ll deal with you when we get home tonight."
After all, currently, he was Kong Lingwen’s fiancé, and outside, he had to give her face.
Not getting her desired reward, Cheng Ruonan was quite unsatisfied and was pulled away by Cheng Qiyue’s outstretched hand.
Yang Cheng immediately held Kong Lingwen’s hand, quickly walking out of the company.
As they exited, Kong Lingwen shook his hand off and complained, "Yang Cheng, I know you have many women around, but in public, you need to be more reserved, especially on the wedding day. I don’t want to worry my grandfather."
"Don’t worry, Cheng Ruonan is just playful. She knows when it’s appropriate; she didn’t do anything improper when the executives were around."
Yang Cheng looked embarrassed, but he took her hand again and got into the car.
The entire drive, Kong Lingwen was somewhat unhappy, though she soon reconsidered, realizing Cheng Ruonan was merely a bodyguard, while she and Yang Cheng, even if just a fake marriage, had legitimate status.
Yang Cheng occasionally glanced at her, only to find her mood mysteriously improving. Indeed, women’s minds are unfathomable!
Ten minutes later, the car stopped at a private restaurant, known for its high expenses and limited to serving only ten tables daily.
Upon entering, they ordered some specialty dishes and patiently waited for someone to arrive.
After what felt like ages, their legs began to tingle before hearing a man’s voice outside.
The server was the first to open the door, ushering in two men. The leading middle-aged man had an average height and a beer belly, with sparse hair. Beside him was a thirty-something man with glasses, appearing like an assistant.
Both men’s eyes lit up upon seeing Kong Lingwen, with the middle-aged man’s gaze filled with undisguised greed.
Yang Cheng’s first impression of this man was terrible; clearly an old lecher, his beer belly inferred frequent drinking and socializing, likely not someone who accomplished genuine work.
"Vice Director Zhou, hello, I’m Kong Lingwen."
Seeing them enter, Kong Lingwen promptly rose and enthusiastically extended her hand.
"Hello, hello, I’ve heard of Ms. Kong’s beauty, and seeing you today indeed confirms it!"
Zhou Haiping chuckled, holding onto Kong Lingwen’s hand, unwilling to let go.
Kong Lingwen had substantial strength and quickly withdrew her hand, lowering her head to conceal her disgust, then invited the two to sit, "Please, have a seat."
"Waiter, you can serve the dishes."
She nodded to the server, who promptly obliged and left.
Yang Cheng frowned; Director Zhou’s gaze was vile, clearly plotting something towards Kong Lingwen.
Yang Cheng discreetly clenched his fist, only for Kong Lingwen by his side to pat it, signaling him not to act rashly.
She clearly discerned Zhou Haiping’s intentions but for now, securing their documents was the priority, so she must tread carefully and coax him into handling things.
Soon enough, the table was laden with delicious dishes, whetting appetites.
Zhou Haiping surveyed the spread, appearing satisfied, though feigned modesty outwardly, "Ms. Kong, it’s just the four of us, this is a bit extravagant. Next time, this shouldn’t be the case."
"You’re right, I’ll note that for next time."
Kong Lingwen smiled slightly but was inwardly sarcastic.
If the meal wasn’t elaborate enough, Zhou Haiping might have stood up and left, not bothering to continue discussions.
Sure enough, Zhou Haiping soon began devouring the food heartily, while the glasses-wearing assistant thoughtfully peeled shrimp shells for him.
"The food here is quite good! Ms. Kong, drink some wine with me!"
He shifted his chair closer to Kong Lingwen, his lewd eyes fixated on her as if she were unclothed.
Kong Lingwen suppressed her disgust, politely saying, "Sorry, I’m allergic to alcohol. I’ll toast you with tea instead."
As she raised her cup, Zhou Haiping set his wine glass down heavily, sloshing the liquor out onto the table.
The atmosphere turned awkwardly tense, his face displeased, "I’m not fond of much else but enjoy drinking a little. If you’re pleased with my company, anything you wish me to handle will be easily sorted."
Hearing this, Yang Cheng internally sneered; this creep clearly intended to intoxicate Kong Lingwen and take advantage.
His purpose in accompanying Kong Lingwen was to prevent such incidents, swiftly standing and striding over to Zhou Haiping.
"Vice Director Zhou, you enjoy drinking, huh! What a coincidence, I also love drinking. Tonight, I’ll keep you company, and we won’t leave until we’ve had our fill!"
Yang Cheng exclaimed, slapping Zhou Haiping’s shoulder.
His strength wasn’t something an average person could endure and nearly shattered Zhou Haiping’s bones.
"Damn! You’re trying to kill me, huh!"
Zhou Haiping’s face twisted in agony, contorted.
"Apologies, Vice Director Zhou, I’m a martial artist, so I have a strong grip."
Yang Cheng chuckled sheepishly, adopting an innocent demeanor.
