Chapter 716: Acquiring Yun Mei
"Watch your attitude! This is an interrogation room!"
The officer barked angrily, his expression extremely stern.
"Do you even know who I am? My name is Cao Zhihao, my dad is Cao Ruibin. You drag me in here—are you tired of your jobs or what!"
Cao Zhihao roared, slamming the table hard in front of him, a bad premonition rising in his chest.
"Of course we know who you are. The Jile Clubhouse is registered under your name. Last night, several homicides took place inside the clubhouse, and some people were injured and sent to the hospital. Among them, a few were infected with a skin disease. This disease is identical to the virus from the Kong Family hotel poisoning case. Mr. Cao, care to explain?"
The officer in charge of the interrogation looked deadly serious, his sharp gaze fixed on Cao Zhihao.
He was none other than Kong Jingshan’s friend, Jia Zhenghao, and he already had enough evidence in hand.
Cao Zhihao’s face shifted slightly. His eyes rolled, and he said, "That just proves the virus came from the Kong Family hotel. That’s right! It’s the Kong Family dragging our clubhouse down with them. You should be arresting the Kong Family, not me!"
"Don’t you know that punk Kong Lingchuan got his own dad killed? A guy who dares to harm his own father is clearly insane. He must have started retaliating against society. For all you know, the virus in the clubhouse was spread by him."
Though Kong Lingchuan was his cousin, at a time like this he couldn’t care less about brotherhood.
He was seething inside. Almost everyone under him who knew the inside story had already been arrested. To this moment, he still wasn’t clear what exactly had happened last night.
Now not only had they failed to catch the people who made trouble at the clubhouse, he himself had been taken in. There was no way he could admit to this charge.
"The clubhouse is indeed mine, but I handed everything over to the manager to run. I had no idea about the homicides that happened there last night! If you want answers, go ask the manager. I’ve got very important things to do. Do you have any idea how much money I lose for every minute you delay me?"
Cao Zhihao shouted hysterically, trying to scare off these officers with his volume.
But Jia Zhenghao was an old fox. He could tell this was all bluff. The corner of his mouth lifted in a cold sneer. "Stop quibbling. As the owner of the clubhouse, there’s no way you knew nothing. Besides, we found materials used to produce the toxin source inside the clubhouse. That’s enough to prove the Kong Family poisoning case is connected to the clubhouse!"
"Cao Zhihao! Leniency for confession, severity for resistance. We’ve got more than enough evidence, and quite a few people have reported you as well. There’s no way you’re walking out of here. If you explain everything clearly, you might at least keep your life."
Hearing this, a hint of panic finally crept onto Cao Zhihao’s face. He felt restless and uneasy.
So what if they’d found the toxin source? The Cao Family did things for big shots; that big shot would definitely come save him.
"I don’t know anything. I didn’t even go to the clubhouse last night. All of that is slander!"
Cao Zhihao knew exactly how many cases he had on his back. If he confessed to all of them, that would truly be the end. Right now, all he could do was pray that the big shot stepped in to destroy the evidence.
"Stubborn to the end! Think it over yourself!"
Jia Zhenghao was a bit angry. He threw down that line and then got up and left.
...
At the same time, Yang Cheng had already brought Kong Lingwen and Gao Peng to Yunmei Company.
Dark circles sat under Gao Liang’s eyes. He forced a strained smile at Yang Cheng and Kong Lingwen and said, "Come with me."
The few of them walked toward the conference room together. The price for Yunmei Company had long been settled, so there was no need to waste time. Gao Liang handed Yang Cheng the contract he had prepared in advance.
"Mr. Yang, we had an agreement. You can’t go back on your word."
Yang Cheng knew very well he wasn’t talking about the 2.5 billion, but about the safety of the Gao Family.
"With Gao Peng at my side, he won’t be in any danger. As for the rest of the Gao Family, that depends on your own abilities. I can’t split myself into multiple bodies; there’s no way I can protect every member of the Gao Family."
Gao Liang also knew that wasn’t realistic, so he nodded. "I’ll hire more bodyguards to protect the family. As for Gao Peng, I’ll leave him to you. I hope you’ll keep my only son alive, no matter what."
"Relax. I’ll keep my promise. Until this crisis is over, Gao Peng stays with me."
Yang Cheng agreed readily. Though he wasn’t exactly eager to get involved with the father and son of the Gao Family, having taken their company, he had to give something in return.
Gao Liang nodded, signed the contract, and pressed his fingerprint, selling Yunmei Company, which he had run for years, to Yang Cheng.
Even after receiving 2.5 billion, he couldn’t feel happy. This money might not be enough to keep them alive.
If the Kong Family lost this struggle, then with Cao Ruibin’s personality, he would never let the traitorous Gao Family go. So Gao Liang had to plan out the Gao Family’s next move.
"Dad, I’ll be absolutely safe with Brother Cen. But you really shouldn’t stay in Zhonghai."
Seeing both parties sign the contract, Gao Peng finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Gao Liang looked at Gao Peng with a complicated expression, hesitating. "Xiaopeng, why don’t we all go abroad together? We’ll find some small place to hide. I don’t believe Cao Ruibin can hunt us down there!"
"I’m staying in Zhonghai to draw the Cao Family’s attention and to gather information on them, so I can make sure you’re safe."
"Dad, I’m always causing you trouble. If I hadn’t been stupid enough to fall for Cao Zhihao’s scam, our family wouldn’t be in this mess. It’s all my fault. So let me stay. I have to see the Cao Family collapse with my own eyes before I can be at peace."
Gao Peng spoke with a serious face, looking much more mature.
"Son, you’ve finally grown up!"
Gao Liang’s face was full of relief. Although he blamed his son for being duped out of money, when he thought it over carefully, whatever Cao Ruibin wanted, he would stop at nothing to get.
The fact that Gao Peng had walked into the trap so easily had actually made the Cao father and son lower their guard. They probably still didn’t know that Gao Peng had betrayed them, so they had to seize this window of time and leave as soon as possible.
"Xiaopeng, we’re leaving. Take care."
With that, Gao Liang hurried away. They had to leave Zhonghai immediately.
To avoid exposing their trail, they would first go from Zhonghai to another city, and then catch a flight abroad.
Yang Cheng stood up and slowly walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Looking at the bustling street outside, his eyes were slightly gloomy.
"What do we do next? Are we going to make a move on the Cao Family?"
Kong Lingwen asked in a low voice.
Yang Cheng shook his head. "Don’t rush. The timing isn’t right yet. For now, come with me to find someone."
"Who?"
Kong Lingwen asked curiously.
"Yesterday, when I was fighting in the basement, I realized I was missing a decent weapon. Ever since I came back from Luochuan, I’ve wanted to find a place to have a weapon made, but I’ve never had the time."
"Uncle Kong said he knows a very powerful Weapon Master, but the man has an extremely strange temper and usually won’t forge blades for people he doesn’t know. So I plan to try my luck first."
Although Yang Cheng’s Nine-Layered Heaven-Burning Palm had improved rapidly, when fighting experts he still needed a weapon; otherwise, he would be at a disadvantage.
