Scholar’s Advanced Technological System

Chapter 511: I've Considered Six Months

Princeton Institute of Advanced Studies, Dean's Office.

After the cleaning lady watered the lantern by the window sill, she wiped the dust off the glass window.

Having done so smoothly, she lifted the bucket and walked out of the office.

Before she left, she looked at Professor Peter Sanak, who was sitting behind the desk by accident.

Though she didn't know much about academic matters, for the first time in so many years, she saw this old man, who was always very serious, showing a difficult look in front of people.

Of course, although he assumed the post of dean, it was only five or six years ago...

Sitting at the desk for a while, the old man with white hair pushed his glasses on the nose beam and looked at the young man standing at the desk and sighed softly.

“Earlier this year, a proposal was made to include you in the team of lifelong researchers at the Princeton Institute of Advanced Studies. I know it's not a good time to say this, but... are you sure you don't want to think about it again? ”

Each of the Princeton Institute of Higher Studies has a small, lifelong research team, which is made up of the world's leading scholars, and whose research is the most advanced in all fields.

Academically, the status of a lifelong researcher at the Princeton Institute of Advanced Studies implies not only research funding and a guarantee of a standard of living, but also the highest honors.

Currently there are only 10 lifelong researchers at the Mathematics Academy, of which Professor Pierre Deligne, the director of the Ark, is one. If he stays here, maybe this year, or two or three years later, he'll be the eleventh.

But...

The ark shook its head and said softly.

“I've been thinking about it for six months. ”

Until he was awarded the Nobel Prize, he had far less resources at home than Princeton. And after winning the Nobel Prize, the resources available to him in the country are much larger.

It's not wrong to say he's selfish. After all, when he makes his choice, he does take "best choice” as his starting point.

Having heard the Ark say the same thing, Dean Peter Goddard said nothing more, opened the drawer and took an application form out of it.

“Really? Now that you've thought about it, I have nothing more to say. Serving the country, serving the world… This is Princeton's lesson, and I think your choice is the right one. ”

The application form was gently placed on the desk, and Mother Peter Goddard seemed to have laid down his heavy burden and relaxed on the chair, watching the canoe continue.

“In addition to the position of Fellow at the Princeton Institute of Higher Studies, there is also a teaching position at Princeton University… I assume you intend to resign this time back together. ”

Ark: “Yes, I'm going to Nassau Hall later. ”

Dean Goddard smiled and said, "Say hello to Professor Isgrub for me. ”

Picking up the application form from the table, the ark nodded slightly.

“I will. ”

After leaving Dean Goddard's office, the Ark did not make too many stops at the Institute of Higher Studies and went straight to Nassau Hall at Princeton University.

In contrast to Dean Goddard's reluctance, Principal Isgrub's response was moderate, or calm.

After listening to the willingness of the Ark to resign, he did not say much and took a similar form out of the drawer.

“… remember about twenty years ago, when I was a dean of education. Mr. Fartings found me and told me he was going back to Germany. I kept him, too, but now that I think about it, it's not really necessary. This choice is not made in a day or two, nor is it changed in three words or two. ”

Pushed the glasses, and he handed the form to the ark.

“Failure to retain you is our loss. ”

Speaking of which, Principal Isgrub paused for a moment and continued with a joke, "So in order to make up for our loss, I hope you will accept the title of Professor Emeritus, at least while resigning from the professorship. ”

“It was an honor," said the boat who took over the application. ”

……

It was dusk when we first left Nassau Hall.

He left here with two application forms, and on his way home, the ark walked slowly, or even a short detour.

This attitude is probably like a person who's about to go away, and wants to spend a little more time where he's lived in the past.

After all, he has lived here so long and gone through so many things, he still has a lot of feelings for Princeton.

While passing Lake Carnegie, while the ark was wondering if it would be too late to run, a familiar figure was unexpectedly seen sitting on a bench by the lake.

With a smile in his mouth, he walked up to the vending machine, bought a can of sports drinks and a can of coffee, and walked towards the lake.

As he approached, Molina, wearing a blue sweatshirt, was wiping sweat beads on her face with a towel.

Suddenly, a can of drinks appeared in her sight.

Mo Lina looked over her face and saw the ark standing there.

Qing Xiu's eyebrows were picked out. She was also welcome to pick up the beverage. After she threw down a “thank you”, she snapped the pull loop of the canister and poured it up her head.

“You're welcome. ”

The ark laughed, sat on the other side of the bench, snapped the drawstring off the coffee jar and slowly took a sip.

Although he still likes instant coffee, the canned frozen coffee produced by this factory has a different flavor.

Molina: "When did you get back? ”

“Just arrived around noon. I was going to leave some time for a run, but it was going to be dark soon.” Watching students running late by the lake, as well as the kayaking team gathered on the lake, the ark said in a chatty tone.

Molina glanced at the ark.

“By the way, it's been six months since you were on Princeton's side. ”

“Yeah, time passes so fast,” looked at the shimmering lake in the sunset, and the ark laughed, "Sometimes I get the illusion that I just graduated yesterday, but I'm 25 years old. ”

Molina: "… I think most people just graduated when they were 25. ”

Ark was embarrassed and laughed: “You seem to have a point in saying this... How about you? How's the subject going with your mentor? ”

Molina's mouth snapped a little bit of a laugh: “I graduated and am now a lecturer at Princeton University. ”

The ark looked at her with a slight surprise: "Already graduated? Congratulations… Although I would like to help you throw a party to celebrate your new colleagues, I have resigned now. ”

“Really. ”

Molina's expression was not surprising, as if she had guessed.

Looking at the can of drinks in her hand, she went on to say, "So this can of drinks is kind of a treat for me? ”

“Kind of. Although a can of drinks may not be enough,” the ark patted the dust on the legs of the trousers, stood up from the bench, watched her smile and said, "Next time you come to China for a trip, I'll buy you a drink. ”

Molina joked, “What if there's no chance? ”

“That could only happen one day at an academic conference. ”

We often meet at late runs, and this is basically how the two communicate.

No omen begins, no omen ends.

Seeing the back of the ark leaving, Molina didn't say anything and picked up a stone and threw it into the lake.

Apart from mathematics, she has no other interests, and the ark can only be considered a friend.

However, thinking that this guy won't be here anymore, it still makes her feel a little lonely...
