Chapter 512: They're the Wealth of Civilization

By the time the ship returned home, the sky had almost darkened.

Returning to that long-standing cabin, the moment he pushed the door open, the dust from his face choked him to a sneeze.

“I knew I should have hired a housekeeping company to clean up regularly.” His hand slammed a fan in front of his nose, and the ark looked at the dusty doorway with some headaches.

Why don't we go to the hotel tonight?

Think about it. The ark thinks it's okay.

When he gets to the hotel from here, he spends enough time cleaning the bedroom.

It took him about an hour, he took a broom and a rag, and he finally cleaned out the study and the bedroom.

Leaning against the wall, the broom looked at the restored study, and the ark wiped the sweat from the lower forehead, revealing a satisfactory smile on his face.

“Next, there's only one last thing left. ”

Before going to bed, he intends to finish today's work.

Although only one job remains to be done.

Sitting at a familiar desk, the ark took about half an hour to complete its resignation.

Looking at the sky, which had completely darkened out of the window, he placed two resignations in the drawer with his hands and turned towards the bedroom.

……

A special ceremony was held in Reporting Room 1 of the Princeton Institute of Advanced Studies.

Following the approval of the resignation of the Ark, President Goddard conferred on him the title of Honorary Fellow.

This title, which is similar to that of an honorary professor at the University, is awarded primarily to scholars who have made a significant contribution to a research institution but are unable to serve or continue to serve here for a variety of reasons.

“Even if you trace the history of the Princeton Institute of Higher Studies, you are one of the most distinguished scholars. And as your colleague, I was impressed by your research. ”

“While I regret not being able to work with you, I still hope that wherever you are, you will continue along the academic path. ”

The ark nodded: “I will. ”

A round of applause was raised in the reporting room.

From Dean Goddard, the Ark took over the certificate symbolizing the title of Professor Emeritus.

Taking into account the honorary professor previously conferred on him by the Rector of Isgrub, as well as the former Columbia University and Jinling University, he had previously been awarded the honorary professorship of three universities.

Though not intentionally collecting titles in this regard, the Ark was curious as to whether the history books would display the academic titles he had earned in a full page when he had finished his archaeological work that day.

After the ceremony, the Ark was about to spend the rest of its time wandering around here, and Professor Feverman, who had worked with him to overcome the difficulties of the NS equation, suddenly called him in.

He took a fountain pen out of his pocket, and he said in a joke: "Although Princeton doesn't have that tradition, I'd like to give you something. This fountain pen, which I collected at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki, is one of my favorite, and I'll leave it to you later. ”

Because of the beautiful heart shot by Ron Howard, Princeton was famous for a while, and perhaps the most outsider of all, the Princeton pen compliments.

However, according to Nash himself in an interview, the gift of a fountain pen is only an exaggerated part of the director, and there is no such tradition in Princeton. But after the film aired, the infarct was surprisingly popular with Princeton teachers and students.

After all, for the professors here, the biggest thing in the drawer is probably the pen they collected when they attended the academic conference.

As for Professor Feverman's reference to the International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki, it was the one in which he was awarded the Fields Prize.

“Thank you," he solemnly accepted this remarkable pen. The ark laughed and made a joke, “You gave me such a precious gift, and I would be embarrassed if I didn't return it. ”

Professor Feverman laughed: “You should give me something, gifts should be given to each other, I remember the Chinese proverb. ”

The Ark speculated that what he was trying to say was a courtesy affair, but that thing wasn't a proverb, it was an idiom.

Smiling, the ark took a pen out of its pocket and handed it to him.

The pen was taken from the boat's hand, and Feverman looked at him unexpectedly.

“I didn't think you were all set. ”

“It's just been on me,” paused for a moment, the ark continued, "which, by the way, I collected at the Conference of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro. ”

“Really? I have to keep it safe,” Feverman laughed, continuing, “By the way, do you still have those manuscripts? ”

Ark: “I still have it. Why? ”

Feverman: “If you're not going to take it, I suggest you donate it to the Stone Library. The old librarian, though seemingly insane, had a pretty good set of paper-based literature maintenance. ”

Upon hearing this proposal, the ark was slightly stunned.

Donate manuscripts to the library?

He hadn't thought about it before.

In his plan, he intended to give it to his students as a souvenir. But when you think about it, it's obvious that it's better to leave it to the amateurs.

I don't know if he'll come back one day.

After all, that page was filled with his heart.

The ark asked in an uncertain tone: "Will the Stone Library collect those pieces? ”

Feverman smiled and said, "Of course, and I think it's not just the Stone Library, I'm sure any museum would be happy to take over. ”

……

After leaving the Institute of Advanced Studies, the ark went straight to the Stone Library.

When he arrived here, the old man in the nightgown was leaning against the chair and napping.

Even in Princeton, where "freaks” are walking, it's rare for a freak to wear a nightgown to a library without trimming it.

The Ark remembers the last time he came here to borrow Lehman Spitzer's manuscript, the old man made fun of him.

However, despite his many peculiarities, his love for books was truly speechless.

Perhaps it is because of such a weirdo that the original historical literature and information here can be preserved so well.

Seeing the ark at the door, the sleepy old man sucked his nose and made a strange laugh.

“You're here? ”

Looking at the weird smile that scared the people who borrowed the book away, the ark sighed and said, “Aren't you going to change your shape after all these years? And that dry laugh. ”

“What does it matter, and who cares what a bad old man wears?” The old man laughed, reached out and touched the cane, and stood up trembling, “not to mention Princeton, full of weirdoes, I was the normal one. ”

No, you're probably the most abnormal one.

The ark spat silently in its heart, but didn't say it, just saying hello.

“When do you plan to retire? ”

The old man laughed: "Retired? That could be the day I lay in the coffin. ”

When he heard that, the ark looked at him unexpectedly.

“I thought you'd avoid the word coffin at your age. ”

“Why hide? Can death be averted simply by hiding? One day we will all rot, but our wisdom and our knowledge will remain for future generations to look at,” Staring at the ship with cloudy eyes, the old man's face smiling, "Say, are you here to borrow a book, or something else? ”

Ark: “After a while, I intend to return home. ”

The old man indifferently “oh” sounded, without any reaction.

After all, he was responsible only for the library, and the changes in personnel at Princeton University and the Institute of Higher Studies were not within his purview.

Organized a language in my head, and the ark went on to say, "I found a bunch of manuscripts when I was cleaning up the house, and there's something about Goldbach's assumptions, and there's something about the NS equation, and it might take a little while to sort them out... I mean, can you keep them for me if you're interested? ”

The old man's face finally showed interest when he heard about the Ark's intention to donate manuscripts to the Rock Library.

“Of course, it's civilized wealth. Give them to me and I'll keep them safe for you. ”

The Ark laughed: “Whether it is civilized wealth, or leave it to future generations to judge, I just think it would be a bit of a hassle to take all that stuff back, and not necessarily fit a few suitcases. And if one day they come, I hope they stay the same. ”

The old man grinned at the corner of his mouth: “Don't worry about that, just like you're an expert in mathematics, I'm also an expert in literature preservation. ”

“Really? Well, I'm relieved,” Todd, the ark joked, "By the way, do I have to swear to the Bible if I borrow my manuscript? ”

However, the old man does not seem to have humorous cells in this regard.

He said with a glance at the joke.

“What are you talking about, they are the wealth of civilization, and from the moment you complete them, they are not just yours. ”
