Chapter 215: If I Don’t Strike It Rich, Who Will?
She wasn’t lying. Faye Yardley genuinely didn’t know. Of course, she had her suspicions, but those were just guesses, not facts.
Chloe Hughes had no trouble telling if someone was lying.
’So she really wasn’t lying, and Logan Langdon actually got the best treasure in the end?’
Chloe Hughes couldn’t help but think, ’As expected of the man I chose. His luck is incredible.’
"Hugh Langdon said you arrived last night."
Faye Yardley nodded, took a long sip of her juice, and swallowed before speaking. "Tell me about it. I’ve searched it twice already and still have no idea what treasure is hidden in there."
’Once I get back to my raft, I’m going to have to take a good look and see what it is.’
Faye Yardley continued, "Speaking of which, you guys found the cave too. Did you discover anything in there?"
Chloe Hughes shrugged. "I didn’t find anything, but it seems Logan Langdon obtained something in there. I haven’t seen it, so I’m not sure what it is."
’So this is the special treatment a male protagonist gets?’
Faye Yardley felt a pang of frustration. ’Why is it that I searched the place so carefully and found it completely empty, but Logan Langdon just pops in for a moment and gets something?’
"He’s really got some good luck. By the way, did you guys go down there to look for me?"
Chloe Hughes nodded candidly. "If we hadn’t heard you were down there—and had already gone twice—right after we got back, we wouldn’t have rushed down to see what you were up to."
Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow. "Then I suppose I should have Mr. Langdon thank me."
"Hahaha, feel free to ask. It’s not like Logan Langdon can’t afford it." Chloe Hughes looked Faye Yardley up and down before adding, "Besides, if you’re the one asking, I guarantee he’d be happy to give you anything."
Er...
’Faye Yardley really couldn’t figure out the relationship between Chloe Hughes and Logan Langdon. They were clearly very close, so how could she say something like that to another woman?’
’Is she testing me?’
’Or are the women in these harem novels all just this unnaturally magnanimous?’
In any case, Faye didn’t care what Chloe Hughes was thinking. She had no interest in Logan Langdon anyway.
With that topic over, they moved on to other things. Faye took the initiative to ask, "By the way, isn’t your team planning to establish a guild? There are quite a few limitations if you’re just a Mercenary Company, right?"
"Yes, we’re already preparing to. We missed out on the top three spots anyway, so there’s no rush. It’s better to prepare everything properly before establishing it."
Faye Yardley nodded. "That’s true. As long as it develops well in the long run, the early stages don’t matter as much."
"You were number one on the server-wide leaderboard in the last event, after all. Haven’t you thought about creating one yourself? If you did, I’m sure a lot of people would be willing to join your team."
"I’m not the leadership type. Being on my own suits me better."
"A lone wolf, I get it." Chloe Hughes continued, "In that case, are you open to being hired? You might not be able to participate in some events by yourself, you know."
Faye Yardley agreed with that point. However, she wasn’t keen on the idea of teaming up with, or being hired by, Logan Langdon’s group, so she shook her head. "You probably don’t know this, but the leader of The First Guild, Ethan Yardley, is actually my brother."
The implication was clear: if she ever needed a large group for a project, she wouldn’t be short on help.
Chloe Hughes nodded. "Wow, impressive. You and your brother are both amazing. It’s true that the strong are always surrounded by other strong people."
"In that case, Miss Hughes, you could always choose to join our side. After all, a powerful, talented, and beautiful person like yourself is a rare find." Faye’s tone was sincere. "If you were willing to come, I’m sure my brother would welcome you with open arms."
"Hahaha... Thank you. I appreciate the vote of confidence. Unfortunately, I can’t. I’m bound by a contract with Logan Langdon."
"That’s a real shame."
After they had traveled a while longer, Faye Yardley stood up. "Well, that’s a shame, but it was very pleasant chatting with you, Miss Hughes. You can just drop me off here. You can have the small wooden boat."
Chloe Hughes looked at Faye Yardley, confused. Faye’s raft was nowhere nearby.
Then, she saw Faye Yardley let out a sharp whistle. Soon after, a Skeletal Warhorse appeared in the distance, galloping toward them with the speed of lightning.
In the blink of an eye, it was beside the small boat. Faye Yardley waved to her, then leaped onto its back. "Miss Hughes, see you around!"
Chloe Hughes watched her ride off and disappear over the horizon, then tsked. A moment later, she too vanished from the small boat.
Back on her raft, Faye Yardley dismounted and patted Bella’s head. "Thanks for coming to get me, girl. You did great."
Bella nuzzled its head against Faye Yardley’s palm, letting out a happy, low whinny.
Faye Yardley fed it a Light Energy Fragment and let it wander off on its own. She then had Goliath change course and begin sailing automatically toward the open sea.
There was no need to worry about bumping into other people’s rafts; the probability of that was so low it was practically zero.
Inside the cabin, she found that Willow Yardley and Blackwood were still asleep.
She went straight upstairs to her room and took out the Silver Treasure Chest and the thick, rectangular prism.
She examined the meter-high rectangular prism, and the system finally provided some information.
[Small Boundary Freedom Pillar: Captures a piece of unowned void land and anchors it to a specific location, allowing free entry and exit.]
’What is this for?’
Faye stared at the item, unable to figure out what she could do with it. ’Capturing unowned void land... that sounds pretty high-level.’
’Is that something I can even use right now?’
’I probably won’t be able to use this thing for a long time.’ She put it directly into her private storage.
She did love opening treasure chests, especially High Level ones like this.
’I hope I get something good this time.’
Faye first took a bath and changed her clothes. Then, she clasped her hands together, muttered a little prayer, and opened the chest.
[Obtained Solar Power Generator x1, Solar-Powered Monitor x1, Fishman Transformation Scale x1, Coralisle Auction Entry Ticket x1, Talent Stone x1]
Talent triggered... Quadruple reward.
"Wow, wow, WOW! I’m hitting the jackpot! It quadrupled everything!"
She was bubbling with joy.
[Fishman Transformation Scale: Transforms the user into a Merfolk. Duration: 2 hours.]
"Huh, this works like a species-specific Transformation Card. I think I have another Transformation Card somewhere." Looking at the description reminded Faye that she had obtained a card a long time ago that provided a one-hour transformation.
’I never had a chance to use it, so I completely forgot about it.’
’Looks like I’m definitely going to Coralisle.’
’The Merfolk, hehe~’
’Come to think of it, I have a lot of miscellaneous items, and so many of them I haven’t even had a chance to use yet.’
’Last time, I just moved a huge batch of stuff from the shared storage to my private storage. Maybe I should take a closer look at what I have.’
