Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts

Chapter 209: Such a Sore Loser

I have to say, the special fishing rod really comes in handy sometimes—as long as you use it in the right place!

Just like now. The fishing line passed through the barrier with ease, and with a gentle flick, a small fish was hooked. Faye Yardley pulled, and the fish was yanked right out of the barrier.

[Acquired: Illusion Fish ×1]

Huh?

It’s not a Mysterious Fish, but this Illusion Fish shouldn’t be bad either. After all, the system didn’t prompt me to break it down, which must mean the entire fish is uncontaminated.

She cast her line again, quickly hooking a flower. She pulled it out. [Acquired: Illusion Flower ×1].

Tsk tsk. Faye Yardley felt like she was about to strike it rich.

But after catching a total of six fish and four flowers, the dreamlike scenery before her began to fade. By the time she cast her line again, the fantastical scene had vanished completely.

"Are you kidding me? So petty!"

’It was such a huge area, what’s wrong with letting me harvest a little?!’

Faye Yardley really wanted to curse someone out.

She put away her fishing rod and walked forward, muttering under her breath. Sure enough, it was gone. This area was now no different from any other.

As her eyes adjusted to the gloom of the deep sea, Faye Yardley could actually start to make things out.

Lying beneath where the dreamlike scene had been was a gigantic sea turtle.

’So, did all that stuff from before belong to this turtle?’

It seemed to be sound asleep, so Faye Yardley didn’t disturb it, simply walking right over its back.

This time, she walked upward step by step. She wasn’t worried about losing the direction of her raft; she’d figure it out once she reached the surface anyway.

Speaking of which, the Sea Map the system had been recording of her travels was so complex that even she couldn’t make sense of it.

It was much more convenient to rely on the bond she shared with her raft to find it.

She was confident that even by walking on the seafloor, she hadn’t gone very far.

On her way up, she ended up fighting a few more marine creatures and harvested a good amount of seafood.

She decided that once she got back, she would go treasure hunting. After all, she had Ludo’s Treasure Map. If she didn’t use it and someone else dug up the treasure first, it would be a huge loss.

Besides, she didn’t have anything special going on recently, so treasure hunting seemed like a good option.

Faye Yardley had just poked her head out of the water when she heard Bella’s neigh. By the time she was standing fully on the sea’s surface, Bella was already galloping toward her.

She leaped onto the steed and rode Bella in a mad dash across the sea. By the time she returned to the raft, the hot wind had already blown her damp hair dry.

She still went and took a shower. With a MEOW, Blackwood leaped onto her shoulder.

"Blackwood, you’re awake! How are you feeling? Didn’t get a stomachache, did you?"

Meow~ o(=∩ω∩=)m

You could tell Blackwood was in a great mood. As Faye Yardley walked down the stairs, she tossed it a piece of dried fish.

In return, she received an affectionate nuzzle from Blackwood.

Faye Yardley rubbed Blackwood’s head. "So next time, if I find something with that Demonic aura, do you want to eat it?"

"Meow~" Blackwood looked at Faye Yardley with anticipation and nodded.

"You little glutton. If I get the chance, I’ll bring some back for you." Faye Yardley plucked him from her shoulder and tossed him into the living room. "Go play by yourself."

"Sister, you were in the sea for so long. Was everything okay down there?"

Taking the red bean shaved ice from Willow Yardley, Faye Yardley had a bite and said, "Delicious. Of course I’m fine. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have been fine when I got back."

After finishing the shaved ice, Faye Yardley said, "I’m going treasure hunting. Look, a Treasure Map."

As she spoke, she brandished the Treasure Map she had just retrieved from her storage.

"Isn’t it a bit late to go now? It’s already almost four in the afternoon."

"Does treasure hunting have a schedule? It should be fine anytime, right?"

Willow Yardley nodded slightly. "I guess so."

Faye Yardley walked over and patted her shoulder. "It’s fine, don’t worry. Maybe this treasure is one that can only be found at night, right?"

With that, she confirmed her use of the Treasure Map.

[You have used Ludo’s Treasure Map. Please follow the guidance of the light to find the treasure.]

"Light?"

’Under the bright sun in broad daylight, what kind of ’guidance of the light’ am I supposed to see?!’

Faye Yardley grumbled but had the system activate the light navigation anyway.

Goliath began to sail swiftly, following the guidance of the light.

To Faye Yardley, this was basically auto-navigation, so she went outside, climbed onto Goliath’s head, and sat down cross-legged.

She casually took out the Exorcism Wind Chime and hung it right on Goliath’s head. A rainbow-colored balloon was still floating from it.

TING-A-LING, TING-A-LING. The crisp chime of the Wind Chime rang out. With the warm sea breeze on her face, Faye Yardley felt utterly content and relaxed.

[BEEP BEEP~ Yvonne Lynch of the Zombie Clan has sent you a friend request. Accept? ]

"Accept."

Another cute avatar instantly appeared on her All World Communication friends list.

The moment she accepted, a call came through.

"Sister!"

Faye Yardley waved at her. "Yvonne, long time no see! You’re as pretty and cute as ever."

The smile on the holographic projection of Yvonne Lynch deepened. "Sister, I missed you so much! Thank you for not forgetting me and for sending me a greeting card. I was so silly, I didn’t even think of doing something like that."

"Our Yvonne is plenty smart, not silly at all. How have things been since you went back? Are you used to it?"

Yvonne Lynch nodded emphatically, then used her camera to show Faye Yardley her current room and the large garden visible from her balcony.

The flowers were truly unlike anything Faye Yardley had seen before—an entire field of pale blue. It was as if you could smell their fragrance through the screen.

Besides, you could tell from her healthy complexion that Yvonne Lynch was doing very well after returning home.

"Sister, your raft seems to have changed a lot."

"Yeah, I’m up high right now. I might as well show you around. If I get the chance, I’ll send you an invitation to visit."

’They’re called same-zone Invitation Cards, but All World Communication seems to ignore zone restrictions. Anyway, as long as you use one, it works.’

"Okay, okay! But I’ve been studying recently. Once I get a little better, I’ll be able to help you, Sister."

"Okay, then study hard. I’ll look forward to the day you complete your studies."

"Mhm~ I’ll definitely work hard!"

The two then chatted about what had happened since they parted ways. Yvonne Lynch felt it was a shame she missed out on all the excitement on Faye Yardley’s end. Her own life after returning home was actually quite monotonous—just endless studying of one thing after another. Still, she quite liked learning.

She said that since she was still young, it was only right to read more and learn more skills.

Faye considered anyone who loved to learn a good kid. She told Yvonne to let her know if she saw anything interesting, and of course, Yvonne agreed to everything.

After hanging up, she checked the system’s navigation. Turns out, the treasure was still a long way off.

In the distance, Faye Yardley thought she could see the shadows of other rafts on the sea, so she took the initiative to conceal her own.
