Chapter 315 - 302: Um, Do You Want to Sleep with Me? 2
She shifted, the sunlight streaming in from outside so bright it stung her eyes. She raised a hand to shield them.
The weather outside was beautiful today. After washing up, Georgia Thorne put on a jacket, deciding to take a stroll outside.
She had been hospitalized for nearly a week, cooped up in her room day after day, staring at Elliot Sheridan’s face until she was sick of it. Now, out for a walk in the garden, the air felt much fresher.
The garden was crowded with people, both children and the elderly. The kids were gathered in small groups, playing games.
Georgia Thorne stared blankly as they played house, finding it amusing. ’They’re so young, yet they already know this game.’
"Do you like children?" A voice suddenly cut in. Georgia followed the sound and saw a man standing by the bench, though she didn’t know when he had appeared.
His gaze was also on the group of children before it shifted back to her face.
Georgia paused, then pointed a finger at her own nose. "Are you talking to me?"
"Do you mind if I sit next to you?" William offered a friendly smile.
"Of course not!" Georgia scooted over, making room for him.
"Thank you!"
"Are you a doctor at this hospital?" Georgia pointed to the white coat he was wearing.
"Yes. My name is William."
"I’m Georgia Thorne."
William sat down, his probing gaze studying Georgia Thorne again. The way she looked at him was with the eyes of a stranger. ’She really doesn’t remember a thing about the past.’
’This is for the best, isn’t it?’
"Miss Thorne, what was the reason for your hospitalization?"
"A car accident. I was admitted not long ago."
"It seems your injuries weren’t very serious, then, Miss Thorne."
"Physically, they weren’t. But my brain took a pretty big hit!" Georgia felt she’d misspoken and hurriedly explained, "I don’t mean I have mental problems—I just can’t remember anything from before!"
William was a doctor, and a very talkative one at that. If he hadn’t said he was a surgeon, she would have suspected he studied psychology.
After a few sentences, it wasn’t long before Georgia had told him her entire situation.
"So, you’re not as fond of your husband as you thought you were?"
Georgia scratched her head. "Maybe. I don’t know!"
’Perhaps I really, really did love Elliot Sheridan before. Otherwise, my body wouldn’t be so accepting of him; on the contrary, it seems to subtly anticipate his touch.’
’It’s just that I’m a slow-to-warm-up person, and psychologically, I can’t accept getting so intimate with Elliot so quickly.’
"Do you like kids?"
William abruptly changed the subject. Georgia looked at him, confused, and replied, "Yes, I do!"
"I happen to know a child. Would you like to go see them?"
"Okay!"
Georgia didn’t have a bad impression of William, so she went with him.
William’s office was on the top floor. They took the elevator up and had to walk to the very end of the hallway.
"Can I ask, what kind of child is it?" Georgia asked curiously, keeping pace with him.
"You’ll know when you see them."
’Maybe it’s one of his patients.’
When they reached the door, William told her to tread lightly. "They’re inside."
"Aren’t you coming in?"
"I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to go in."
’Why wouldn’t it be appropriate for him to go in?’
Before Georgia could ask, a sharp push to her lower back sent her stumbling into the office.
She staggered and pitched forward, but thankfully, she managed to grab a nearby desk to steady herself.
"I’m s-sor— How are you here?!" Georgia’s first instinct was to apologize, but the moment she looked up, she saw a face that shouldn’t have been there. Her eyes widened in shock. "Didn’t you say you had to go out for something today?"
She clearly remembered him whispering in her ear yesterday that he would be out today. Why was he here?!
Inside the office, besides Elliot Sheridan, there were two other people: a woman and a small child.
Elliot Sheridan pinched the bridge of his nose. He was shocked by Georgia’s sudden appearance at first, but then understanding dawned.
’Besides William, no one else could have known he was here.’
Georgia looked at Elliot, then at the woman and child sitting across from him. ’What is going on?’
The woman sitting opposite Elliot was crying, and the child in her arms also had red-rimmed eyes, though he was stubbornly holding back his tears.
’Should I not be here?’
"Sorry, I..."
Before Georgia could finish, Elliot shot up from his chair. "Georgia, go outside."
In all the time since her car accident, Georgia had never heard him speak in such a sharp tone.
It was a command, not a request, leaving no room for refusal or doubt.
For a moment, Georgia was utterly bewildered. After a brief pause, she mumbled an "oh" and stiffly made her way out.
As she backed out of the office, just before the door closed, she faintly heard the child seem to call Elliot "Dad!"
’I must be going crazy, or why else would I be hearing things!’
But the scene looked exactly like the classic cliché: his mistress showing up with their child.
Ever since losing her memory, Georgia had felt a faint unease, a persistent feeling that something was wrong.
No matter how she looked at it, she and Elliot Sheridan just didn’t seem to match.
Elliot had been good to her these past few days—so good it was almost indescribable.
She had looked up Elliot Sheridan’s identity online. He was famous, one of the most prominent men in Portmire.
’A man like that must have women flocking to him. How did he end up marrying me?’
Georgia stood blankly by the door, her thoughts growing more chaotic the more she pondered.
Right, William was the one who brought her here. He should know what the relationship was between her and Elliot, or between Elliot and the woman and child in that room.
She scanned her surroundings, but seeing no sign of William, she couldn’t help but walk away from the office to look for him.
’Please, don’t let it be the kind of relationship I’m thinking of. Otherwise, I’ll definitely fall apart.’
Georgia finally found William downstairs, chatting with other doctors, a brilliant smile on his face.
"I need to talk to you!" Georgia strode to his side.
William glanced at her, then said to his colleagues, "You guys go on talking."
William walked to a corner, the smile finally dropping from his face. "Miss Thorne, is there something I can help you with?"
"Did you know me before? Or my husband?" Georgia asked impatiently.
"I did," William replied, his face stern. "I know you must have a lot of questions right now. What do you think the relationship is between your husband and the woman and child in that room?"
"Why did your husband lie and say he had to go out today, when in fact he never left and was just meeting with those two?"
"And another thing, did you get a good look at the child’s face? Didn’t you think his eyes and brows looked remarkably similar to your husband’s?"
William looked at her. "Now that I’ve put it that way, you should understand what I mean, right?"
William’s rhetorical questions answered all the doubts in her heart.
The answer was glaringly obvious.
That woman had been with Elliot Sheridan before, and they already had a child together.
"And what’s your relationship with that woman?" A deep sorrow suddenly washed over Georgia. She didn’t think she was that in love with Elliot, but seeing him with that mother and son still made her heart feel like it was about to burst from sadness.
But even in her sorrow, she wasn’t a fool. "Why did you want me to see that?"
"Georgia, you’re much smarter than you were before you lost your memory." William suddenly laughed. "That woman’s name is Quentin Chase. She’s Elliot’s first love. Everyone in the Sheridan Family knows about it. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Elliot, or your good friend, Selena Sheridan."
"..."
"Georgia, didn’t you say you don’t love Elliot as much as you used to? Maybe you should take this opportunity to seriously reconsider your marriage. Don’t let this mistake of a relationship continue. Originally, Elliot’s only interest in you was your kidney!"
"What do you mean?" Georgia’s voice was hoarse, almost failing her completely.
"Did I forget to mention? I’m Aidan Sheridan’s attending physician. Aidan’s kidneys are failing, and he needs a transplant. And as it happens, you’re a match. Does that make things clearer for you?"
Having deceived Georgia once, William had no qualms about deceiving her a second time.
’So that’s why Elliot married me. All for an organ, just for one of my kidneys!’
A chill ran through Georgia. Her eyes stung and burned. She blinked, and her vision of the world ahead blurred.
She wiped her tears and kept walking forward, not even knowing why she was crying.
The tears streamed down uncontrollably until she finally squatted on the ground, losing all composure.
"Why are you crying like this?" A concerned voice suddenly drifted down to her.
Georgia looked up. A white handkerchief was offered to her. Her gaze followed the fair hand up to a familiar face.
For no reason at all, Georgia began to cry even harder.
Justin Sullivan had always been at a loss when it came to a crying girl, especially when it was the girl he loved.
He fumbled to wipe the tears from her face. "Did he bully you?"
The "he," obviously, was Elliot Sheridan.
Justin Sullivan had been back for several days, and the first thing he did was ask about Georgia Thorne’s whereabouts.
When he learned she was in the hospital but recovering well, the heart that had been hanging in suspense could finally rest—at least halfway.
The other half only settled when he finally saw her with his own eyes.
After returning to the country, his own illness had relapsed. He’d suffered through three whole days before running to the hospital to see her.
Elliot Sheridan had Georgia Thorne’s hospital room on lockdown. Justin had come to the hospital but hadn’t been able to see her.
