Disgust flashed in Jiang Li’s eyes as she looked at Wei Hu. "Take me there."

Although Jiang Li didn’t answer directly, Wei Hu took it as confirmation of his guess.

He happily scrambled up from the ground. "This way, Sister-in-law—Ugh!"

He’d barely gotten the words out when something struck him. He turned, confused, only to meet Jiang Li’s icy gaze.

"Say that again, and I’ll pull out all your teeth."

Wei Hu shuddered and immediately started leading the way without another word. ’Right,’ he thought, ’Brother Kun is old enough to be her dad. She’s a young girl; of course she’d be embarrassed if I called her that.’

If Jiang Li knew what Wei Hu was thinking, she probably would have ripped his face off right then and there.

Wei Hu and his underlings limped along beside Jiang Li. The locals who witnessed the scene began to speculate about her identity.

Jiang Li merely gave them a silent glance and said nothing. She hadn’t come here to start trouble.

Soon, she followed Wei Hu down an alley. As they proceeded, a building came into view.

"This is it. The entire third floor is Brother Kun’s turf. If... if you need anything, just call me."

Wei Hu was still terrified of Jiang Li. ’She’s so ruthless,’ he thought, ’always aiming for a fatal blow. Who could possibly survive that?’

Jiang Li grunted in acknowledgment and, with her bag slung over her shoulder, headed upstairs. The residents all poked their heads out to watch her go.

Seeing her walk upstairs so openly, combined with Wei Hu’s attitude, no one dared to approach her, no matter how curious they were.

Jiang Li reached the third floor without incident. She pushed the door open, stepped inside, and closed it behind her. Then, she summoned Kun Sha.

Kun Sha looked at his former residence and roared in shock, "Fuck! Is that Wei Hu out of his mind? He’ll bring just anyone here!"

Jiang Li shot him a cold look.

Kun Sha immediately shut his mouth and shuffled to the side. ’Even as a ghost, I can still feel fear.’ He was truly terrified of her.

Jiang Li pushed open a side door, revealing a bathroom. Her breath hitched, and she turned back to look at Kun Sha.

"How many?"

"Wh-what?"

Anger laced Jiang Li’s voice. "I asked you, how many people are in here!"

"T-two. Shao Zhenhua and one of his colleagues." After speaking, Kun Sha met Jiang Li’s bloodshot eyes. He turned to flee, but was frozen in place after just two steps.

Jiang Li stared at the latrine, the fury in her eyes intensifying. She then called for Wei Hu. "Get your men in here and break this open."

Wei Hu’s eyes darted to the latrine she was pointing at. "B-break it open? Why? That’s... that’s filthy."

He had been there when they’d plastered the bodies inside. A suspicion began to grow in Wei Hu’s mind as he watched Jiang Li.

"You and Brother Kun..." Wei Hu’s words were cut short.

With a flick of her wrist, Jiang Li pressed the tip of her knife to his throat, drawing a single bead of blood.

Wei Hu didn’t even dare to breathe. "D-don’t be rash. I’ll... I’ll go get my men."

Wei Hu’s eyes shifted as a plan formed in his mind. ’I’ll just string her along for a bit, then slip out and call for backup.’

’No matter how tough she is on her own, this is our turf. There’s no way she can fight a whole building of our men, right?’

Jiang Li narrowed her eyes, watching his expression. She didn’t need to guess what he was thinking.

"Hah." Jiang Li let out a sudden, scornful laugh. The very fact that she’d dared to come meant she had a way to handle them.

Hearing her laugh, Wei Hu couldn’t help but swallow nervously. Then, the sharp tip of the blade drew a shallow cut across his neck.

Immediately after, he saw several insects crawl out from her sleeves and collar. He watched in horror as one of them scurried up to the fresh cut and burrowed inside.

"Ever heard of Gu Worms? It doesn’t matter if you haven’t. You have now." Jiang Li retracted her knife.

Wei Hu had just started to relax when a pain that felt like it was gnawing at his bones and drilling into his heart shot through him. Unable to bear it, he collapsed and began writhing on the floor.

Jiang Li stood over him, watching impassively.

"I’ll... I’ll get them! Stop! Make it stop!" Large beads of sweat instantly broke out on Wei Hu’s forehead.

This agony was worse than any knife wound.

Jiang Li said nothing, simply watching from the side. Only when he was on the verge of passing out from the pain did she issue a command to the worm.

The blackness encroaching on Wei Hu’s vision receded. He turned his head to look at Jiang Li, his eyes filled with pure terror. ’She’s a demon!’

"What’s wrong? Want to experience it a little longer?"

Wei Hu flinched violently, then immediately scrambled to his feet to go get his men. As he reached the door, he heard Jiang Li’s voice again.

"Don’t worry. I placed a Gu on all of you the moment I walked in. If anyone disobeys, you’ll all suffer the consequences together."

Gasping for breath, Wei Hu clenched his jaw and went out.

Kun Sha stared blankly at the scene. ’Is she even human?’ he wondered. ’How can she do all this?’

Wei Hu soon returned with his men. He wasn’t an idiot. ’This woman isn’t any "Sister-in-law,"’ he realized. ’She’s probably a cop.’

He fumed silently. Then again, he thought, even if she wasn’t who he thought she was, it’s not like he was a match for her anyway.

"All of you, be careful. If any of that stuff gets on you, you can say goodbye to your hands."

Jiang Li sat in a chair, dagger in hand, watching them work and tossing out threats from time to time.

One of the men secretly sized up Jiang Li. Just as he was about to reach for the gun tucked into his back, her eyes snapped toward him.

The next moment, his body went limp, and he collapsed to the ground, convulsing.

Resting her chin on her hand, Jiang Li said, "I’ve placed a Gu on all of you. If I die, none of you will live either."

After that, no one dared to try anything funny. They could only obey her commands.

Wei Hu, his neck crudely bandaged, listened to the utter confidence in Jiang Li’s voice and ground his teeth in silent rage. He turned and took his helpless anger out on his men.

"Get a move on, you useless bastards! What, you haven’t eaten today?"

’Those things have been buried here for so long anyway,’ he thought. ’If she wants them, let her have them. We just need to live to fight another day.’

’First, we get her to leave. Then we can make a new plan.’

「An hour later.」

Wei Hu approached her. "It’s done."

Jiang Li got up to take a look. The skeletal remains had been neatly arranged inside a box.

Jiang Li leaned in for a look to make sure nothing was missing, then pulled back.

"Is that everything?"

"N-no more! That’s all of it, I swear!" Wei Hu said, raising a hand as if taking an oath.

Jiang Li gave him a disdainful look, then bent down, picked up the box, and headed for the door.

"Hey! What about the worms in us...?"

Jiang Li walked out without a backward glance. ’People who commit such evil deserve to die.’ Behind her, a chorus of agonized screams erupted.

When Jiang Li returned to her apartment, Karina watched her walk in, trembling like a leaf. ’I regret everything,’ she thought, her heart filled with remorse.

’If I’d known how powerful this woman was, I never would have crossed her.’

Fortunately, Jiang Li didn’t even spare her a glance. She just carried the box upstairs.

Back in her room, Jiang Li locked the door. She walked over to the box and stared at it, the image of Shao Zhenhua from the photograph appearing in her mind.

Jiang Li sat down in a chair. ’I have what I came for,’ she thought. ’It’s time to go home.’

...

Luo Heng, who had been driven back from H City by Luo Jingheng, listened to the report from his subordinate and looked at the photos they’d taken. He then turned to Du Kang, who stood beside him.

"So, Jiang Li is here."

Du Kang glanced at the photo in his hand. "Yes. It’s her."

Luo Heng tossed the photo onto the table, his mind flashing back to the humiliation he had suffered at the hands of Luo Jingheng.

’He cares about this woman, doesn’t he?’

Luo Heng’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Go," he commanded. "Make sure she never leaves."

Du Kang hesitated for a moment. "Yes, sir!"

He then led his men out.
