Zhao Shuo watched Jiang Li and the others leave, then glanced into the hospital room. "Get the doctor in here to take a look."

Zhao Shuo checked on Wu Jianzhang’s condition. There was nothing out of the ordinary.

The next second, Wu Jianzhang gasped sharply and his eyes flew open. A look of terror crossed his face as he flailed his arms wildly, even rolling off the hospital bed.

"No, don’t come any closer! Get away!"

Zhao Shuo’s eyes lit up. ’It worked!’

"Everyone, look! According to my Compass, the culprit must be in here!"

Zhao Shuo’s eyelid twitched. ’Wu Ming got here fast.’

Wu Ming and Yu Huannian had just arrived when they heard Wu Jianzhang’s voice coming from the room.

"No, don’t come any closer! Get away! You psychos, didn’t you get anything out of it?

If it weren’t for me, your families would have abandoned you long ago."

Wu Ming covered her mouth in an exaggerated gesture. "So it’s true!"

Yu Huannian approached with his phone out, clearly recording the terror on Wu Jianzhang’s face and his guilt-ridden expression.

Zhao Shuo glanced at the body camera on his uniform. "Professor Wu, what’s wrong?"

Wu Ming cried out, loud enough for Wu Jianzhang to hear her clearly.

"Oh my god, there are so many people around him! On his neck, on his back, and the room is filled with people who all look the same."

Hearing Wu Ming’s words, Wu Jianzhang’s pupils shrank. He flailed his arms wildly, backing away in terror from the crowd of people that had suddenly appeared in the room.

"Don’t come any closer! I was wrong! I shouldn’t have deceived you, shouldn’t have locked you up for experiments.

I shouldn’t have whipped you, electrocuted you, or forced you to take drugs."

"What drugs did you use? Did Lin Ye really do all this, or did you order him to? Where did the bodies of those who died in the sanitarium end up?"

"The drugs were Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, and some illegal drugs that only I could get... I ordered Lin Ye to do it all. The bodies... they were sent... given away, they were given away...

Don’t come any closer! It was Lin Ye who did it, it has nothing to do with me! I don’t have multiple personalities! Get away, get away!"

After speaking, Wu Jianzhang started babbling incoherently again. Seeing the people closing in on him, he was so frightened he lost control of his bladder.

"I’ve told you everything, what more do you want? Go away, stay away from me."

Wu Jianzhang’s mental state reached its breaking point. He collapsed into the puddle of his own urine and passed out.

Zhao Shuo gritted his teeth. ’Damn it. Even after all that, he didn’t say where the bodies were sent.’

Still, with this evidence, he was confident they could get Lin Ye to talk.

Wu Ming glanced at the viewer count for her livestream. It had skyrocketed to 200,000. In the rolling comments, those in the know were explaining the situation to the newcomers.

A large number of patients’ family members had also joined.

[You’re full of shit! I love my daughter very much! You were the one who said you could cure her, you wouldn’t even let us visit, saying that seeing us would upset her and affect the treatment.]

[Me too. My daughter had depression that was even manifesting physically. After coming back from the sanitarium, her symptoms got even worse, so I had no choice but to take her back.

Her symptoms really did get better after two doses of medication, which is why I felt safe leaving my daughter in your hands. Who knew you were using my daughter for research.

A sanitarium? More like a devil’s den that devours people, bones and all.]

[My son was there for treatment for half a year. Then one day, they suddenly said he committed suicide. When I went, I didn’t even get to see his body, just an urn with his ashes...]

Meanwhile, Zhou Tiancheng and Ji Qinghe, who had been monitoring the livestream, were taking screenshots as evidence and contacting family members they hadn’t been able to reach before.

Wu Ming’s livestream only lasted for a few minutes before it was forcibly shut down and her account was banned.

Now it was obvious that the people pulling the strings from the shadows were panicking.

Wu Ming put away her phone. Her goal was accomplished, anyway. With the situation blown up this big, there was no way the higher-ups could ignore it.

"Damn it! You useless bunch of fools! Didn’t I tell you to get Wu Jianzhang out of the hospital?"

"Boss, our men hadn’t arrived yet. Who knew..."

"Useless!"

Shi Xingchao was so angry he slapped the man across the face. The sanitarium was gone, and now Wu Jianzhang was a lost cause. What was he supposed to do about the "goods" for his park?

"Boss, this has blown up. Wu Jianzhang is done for. The main thing now is to make sure Lin Ye keeps his mouth shut. If the higher-ups investigate us, we’ll be in danger."

Shi Xingchao sneered. "What’s there to be afraid of? I’m just a small-time real estate developer. What does any of this have to do with me?"

Shi Xingchao’s expression suddenly changed. "Take care of Lin Ye’s family. As for Lin Ye... have him taken care of too."

Shi Xingchao watched the news reports, a vein throbbing on his forehead. Fury surged within him. He pulled out a gun and shot the men in the room. His anger only began to subside at the sight of them on the floor, coughing up blood.

Looking at the few men on the floor, he called someone over.

"Go. Aren’t they short on ’stock’ over there? Send these ones over first. Oh, and by the way, tell them the heat is on right now, so they need to lie low. If they get caught again, no one’s going to be able to bail them out."

"Yes, Boss."

...

With her task complete, Wu Ming ran to find Jiang Li. "Jiang Li, it’s done! Several media outlets and other major streamers have picked up the topic now.

At this point, not even God himself can save him."

Jiang Li nodded as she looked at the trending topics. With this much exposure, would they choose to continue protecting Wu Jianzhang, or would they abandon him?

"Let’s go check on Lin Ye’s family," Jiang Li said, getting into the car with a few others. Even if Wu Jianzhang woke up, Zhao Shuo and his team were there, so they didn’t have to worry.

Now that the story had broken, Lu Xingye’s side of the operation had become much more dangerous.

Lu Xingye had just arrived at the building where Lin Ye lived. He and his colleague went upstairs, pretending to be utility workers checking the water and electricity. They knocked, but the door and windows to the apartment were shut tight. He knocked for a while, but there was no sound from within.

Lu Xingye examined the lock; it was locked from the inside. It was quiet, but he could hear a faint rustling sound. There was someone in there.

’Something must have happened.’

Lu Xingye tried the doorknob. It wasn’t a keypad lock. He pulled a tool from his pocket and forced the lock open.

As soon as they entered, the two of them saw a mother and her two daughters collapsed on the floor.

He sniffed the air. A gas leak. He ran into the kitchen and his heart skipped a beat—there were sizzling sparks coming from nearby.

Lu Xingye quickly shut off the gas and found the circuit breaker, flipping it off immediately.

His colleague checked the condition of the family. "They’re just unconscious, thank God."

He went to the windows, breaking them open to air the place out. As he reached the last window, he suddenly spotted several heavily bundled figures heading upstairs.

"Not good, Xingye! They’re coming up!"

Lu Xingye contacted the station. He looked at the three people on the floor. The smell of gas still lingered in the air.

The two officers blocked the front door, moved the family into the bedroom, locked its door, and barricaded it with furniture. The other officer went to the window to look for an escape route.

Soon, the sound of someone trying to break down the apartment door came from outside. After a while, they heard sounds of rummaging, and then footsteps growing closer and closer to the bedroom.

Lu Xingye scanned the room and picked up a fruit knife from the table.

But the next second, the smell of something burning wafted in. Both of them were horrified.

"Xingye, you take them and go down first," his colleague said, tying bedsheets together, then turning to grab Lu Xingye.

"It’s too late. We’ll die if we go down there."

Lu Xingye glanced out the window and saw several figures below. He gritted his teeth. ’Looks like we can’t wait for Captain Zhou’s backup.’

"The fire isn’t big yet. I’ll go out and see. Captain Zhou’s men must be on their way. If we can just stall for a bit longer, we’ll be saved."

Lu Xingye unlocked the bedroom door and immediately saw two men in the apartment.

One of them was heading to the kitchen to turn the gas back on. Lu Xingye lunged forward, grabbed the nearest object, and knocked the man unconscious. He then rushed into the kitchen, smashed open the faucet, and a jet of water sprayed out.

The man’s accomplice spotted Lu Xingye and advanced on him, weapon in hand.
