Chapter 135 - 133: Finding a Patron for the Police Station

Just as the tip of the blade reached Jiang Li’s heart, ’Du Xueqing’s’ hand was seized in an iron grip.

Jiang Li opened her eyes, a pure, innocent smile on her face. "Are you trying to get yourself killed? Attacking my sister?"

Her throat in a vise, ’Du Xueqing’ quickly found herself gasping for air. "COUGH, COUGH... Don’t you want..."

"Don’t think I’m like you." Jiang Li’s grip loosened slightly. ’She couldn’t cause trouble for her sister.’

Jiang Li looked ’Du Xueqing’ up and down. "Now, let me think... where would your weak spot be?"

Jiang Li picked up the knife from the floor and traced patterns over her body with it. She wasn’t rational like her sister.

"If you hurt me, your primary personality will never forgive you."

Jiang Li sliced downwards with the knife, then clapped a hand over ’Du Xueqing’s’ mouth to muffle the scream. A brilliant smile lit up her face. "Believe it or not, even if I were to kill you, my sister would clean up the mess for me."

’Du Xueqing’s’ pupils contracted. ’Impossible!’

Jiang Li pinned ’Du Xueqing’ down. When it came to teaching someone a lesson, she had plenty of methods—some of which weren’t suitable to teach her sister.

’Du Xueqing’s’ mind was tormented again and again, her features contorting in agony.

"I was wrong! Please, spare me..."

Holding a long, thin needle, Jiang Li plunged it into the fleshiest part of her body, piercing an acupoint. The pain was so intense, ’Du Xueqing’s’ very soul felt like it was trembling.

Only when ’Du Xueqing’ finally passed out from the sheer pain did Jiang Li stop.

’I was so discreet, Sister will never know.’

When Jiang Li woke up, she saw Du Xueqing huddled on the hospital bed, the needle marks on her hands already discolored.

The items on the overbed table were out of place, too. She lifted the covers for a quick look, then sighed in resignation.

Jiang Li turned her head, looking at the other Jiang Li who was with her.

Clutching a plush doll, the other Jiang Li gazed at her, an innocent look on her chubby little face.

"Sister, that other Du Xueqing was trying to kill you. I just taught her a little lesson.

Don’t worry, her life isn’t in danger."

Jiang Li patted her head. "I know. Little Li, you only did it to protect me. How could I ever blame you?

I’ll go get a doctor to take a look, and then we’ll go home."

"Yay!" A jubilant smile spread across the other Jiang Li’s chubby face. ’She knew it. Just like when they were kids, her sister would always believe her unconditionally.’

Jiang Li couldn’t help but smile. Back when they were children, Little Li would often torment Jiang Dewang in the same way, plaguing his dreams until he became utterly terrified of her. In the end, it was that fear that had allowed her to survive.

Jiang Li had a doctor check on Du Xueqing. Once confirmed there were no major issues, she went home.

At the police station, Lu Xingye was reviewing the surveillance footage from near Jiang Li’s home. The courier they had brought in for questioning claimed to know nothing; he was just responsible for the delivery. He handed the order information over to Lu Xingye.

Lu Xingye glanced at the sender’s address and slammed his hand on the table in fury. "Isn’t this address the same as the scene of that major car crash?"

Zhou Tiancheng took the paper and glanced at it. "Jiang Li was right. The people in the shadows are trying to warn her, but they’re also afraid of her."

"Afraid?" Zhao Shuo looked at Zhou Tiancheng in surprise.

’Holy crap, this gang is actually afraid of Jiang Li! They aren’t scared of the police, but they’re scared of *her*?’

’This is so thrilling!’

Zhou Tiancheng glanced over, and Zhao Shuo immediately schooled his expression.

"What kind of novels have you been reading?"

"Huh? I don’t need to read novels anymore. Watching Jiang Li is exciting enough! Hehehe," Zhao Shuo let out a dopey laugh.

’With all this excitement right here, who needs novels? This is like a live-action version!’

"The people in the shadows are holding back, likely because they know what Jiang Li is capable of and are afraid. They’re worried they might accidentally get their own headquarters blown up.

But they’re also observing, trying to find her limits. They won’t make a move until they’ve figured her out."

Ji Qinghe nodded. "It’s a good thing Jiang Li has Yu Huannian and the others by her side."

A fortune-teller, a poison expert, and someone with superhuman strength.

Lu Xingye rubbed his nose. ’This is what makes me feel so inadequate,’ he thought. ’Compared to everyone around Jiang Li, I’m just too damn ordinary.’

Zhou Tiancheng took a deep breath. ’If only we had someone powerful watching our backs, a real patron.’

Zhou Tiancheng sat up straight. "Our station needs to find a patron. It’s the only way to protect everyone here, including Jiang Li."

The others nodded in agreement. With a powerful patron, their future would be limitless.

"I just hope the new chief is a heavy hitter," Zhao Shuo prayed, clasping his hands together.

"What about the mayor?" Ji Qinghe suggested after a moment of thought. "Of all people, Zhang Hongzhi seems the most approachable."

Lu Xingye shook his head. "That won’t work. Jiang Li has met the mayor, but it’s clear she feels a sense of distance from him."

"Isn’t that just stating the obvious? He’s the mayor," Zhao Shuo shot Lu Xingye a look. "I feel awkward around him too."

"But it was different when the inspector was here," Lu Xingye said, looking at Zhao Shuo. "She was wary, sure, but she wasn’t nearly as guarded."

The others nodded in understanding.

"Jiang Li was extremely wary of Wang Xiangming and his cronies, and they all ended up kicking the bucket. So, let’s think of someone else."

Ji Qinghe couldn’t help but laugh. She never imagined she’d see the day they’d be trying to find a patron for their own police station. It was all thanks to Jiang Li.

If it weren’t for her, their little station wouldn’t be this eventful every single day.

"We’ll just have to be more observant," Zhou Tiancheng told them. "Something like this is up to fate. Even if we can’t find a patron, we still have a duty to perform."

"Xingye, tell Jiang Li to be extra careful," Zhou Tiancheng said, looking at Lu Xingye.

"Alright." Lu Xingye nodded, pulling out his phone to text Jiang Li.

Looking at the message from Lu Xingye, Jiang Li thought, ’So my guess was right.’

「Three days later.」

News came from the hospital: Ruan Zhixia was awake.

Upon receiving the news, Jiang Li immediately rushed to the hospital with three others.

Lu Xingye was already waiting at the door. Seeing her arrive, he stepped forward. "Jiang Li, you’re here. Ruan Zhixia is awake, but the doctors say her condition isn’t good."

Jiang Li’s lips thinned. Just thinking about those animals made her grind her teeth in anger.

Pushing the door open, they found Ruan Zhixia staring blankly ahead, her eyes devoid of emotion. She only looked up as Jiang Li approached. Her voice was hoarse.

"You’re the ones who saved me?"

"My younger brother did," Jiang Li replied, sitting down beside the bed.

Ruan Zhixia glanced around the room. She had thought she was dead, never expecting to wake up alive.

"Can I borrow your phone? I want to call the man I love."

Ruan Zhixia glanced outside, wondering how much time had passed. ’Guo Tianqi must be so worried about me.’

"You want to call Guo Tianqi?"

Ruan Zhixia’s eyes brightened. "You know Tianqi? Has he come to visit me?"

Jiang Li looked at Ruan Zhixia. "You should focus on your recovery first.

Leaning back against the headboard, Ruan Zhixia felt a sense of dread creep into her heart at Jiang Li’s words. She knew something was wrong. Knowing Tianqi, it was impossible for him not to be here.

"Did something happen to him? Please, can you tell me where he is?" Ruan Zhixia asked, her voice filled with emotion as she grabbed Jiang Li’s hand.

’Tianqi is so smart. With me in the hospital this long, he must have figured something out.’

’He can’t have done something stupid on my account.’

"He thought you were dead, so he went after Yang Ziyi and his men for a fight to the death. His body is at the police station right now. You need to take good care of yourself. He’s still waiting for you to see him."

Just then, Ji Qinghe walked in from outside and handed Ruan Zhixia her diary.
