Chapter 256 - 250: Orphan of a Narcotics Officer, the Overpowered Brother
"Name, height, and appearance."
"He... He Shaohui, thirty-eight years old, about one point seven six meters tall."
Jiang Li reached directly into Gao Haiou’s pocket and took out the phone. These people were truly meticulous; everything relevant had been completely deleted.
"BANG! Jiang Li, are you alright?" Zhou Tiancheng rushed in with his men, looking at the two people in front of her.
"I’m fine. Take them back for interrogation."
Jiang Li stood up and went outside, leaving the room to them. Downstairs, a group of people had been surrounded in the center of the room.
"Officers, we really aren’t bad guys. We were just hired to act."
"Yes, yes, yes! That man told us his daughter wouldn’t forgive him. He wanted us to help put on a show to improve their relationship. We really don’t know anything else."
Jiang Li paused as she listened to their words. Beside her, Zhao Shuo also breathed a sigh of relief. He had almost thought Kun Sha was truly untouchable, capable of mobilizing so many people at once.
"Enough, stop yelling. Come back to the station with us for verification. If everything checks out, we’ll let you go." Seeing Jiang Li come down, Zhao Shuo walked slowly toward her, looking at her helplessly. "Jiang Li, that was way too reckless. You only spoke up after the fact. What if something had happened to you?"
If all these people hadn’t been actors but Kun Sha’s men, would she have made it out alive today?
"You guys looked busy enough as it was. Besides, I didn’t want to say anything when I wasn’t sure." Jiang Li glanced at Zhao Shuo’s legs. "Didn’t the doctor say you shouldn’t be walking around?"
"It’s fine, I just look a bit ugly when I walk. Plus, I took a car here." Zhao Shuo smiled at Jiang Li.
A while later, Zhou Tiancheng came downstairs with his team, and the group of actors was subsequently escorted into the police vehicles. Before leaving, Zhou Tiancheng looked at her hesitantly for a moment, but ultimately said nothing. Jiang Li got into a trailing car and headed back to the station with them.
Back at the station, Zhao Shuo poured her a cup of water.
"The clues are clear now. Gao Haiou has been by Kun Sha’s side for a long time. According to his confession, Kun Sha hasn’t had an easy time since he went to the Golden Triangle. He’s been suppressed by others, unable to turn things around.
"He was the one who leaked your information to the compound. We heard that because of his counterfeiting, he was targeted by several major factions, and his power over there was completely decimated.
"He came back this time for two reasons: first, to get revenge, and second, to return to his former glory. And because of your parents."
At this point, Zhao Shuo looked at her with a mix of admiration and concern.
"Shao Zhenhua did a very good job of keeping things secret back then. The organization didn’t even know he had a history with Zhu Yan. When you were abducted by Jiang Dewang, it was actually Kun Sha’s men who tossed you to him. Kun Sha has been keeping an eye on your whereabouts all these years."
Jiang Li gave a soft hum of acknowledgment. In truth, she had already figured this out.
"I’m going to take a trip to B City. I want to see exactly what kind of person this Kun Sha is."
Zhao Shuo picked up his phone, made a call, and then looked at her. "There’s news from Huo Qing’s side. They went to make the arrest based on the detailed location you provided. Unfortunately, it failed. They have launched a full-scale manhunt and are maintaining strict surveillance at airports, train stations, high-speed rail stations, subways, and all other transit hubs. Kun Sha won’t be able to escape."
Zhao Shuo looked at Jiang Li with utmost seriousness. They had made ample preparations for this arrest operation long ago. Now that Kun Sha had shown his face, it was impossible they would let him slip away. Otherwise, they would truly be too ashamed to ever face Jiang Li again.
"I trust you all. I’ll head back and pack my things now."
Jiang Li stood up and left. As she passed Tan Qing’s desk, she paused for a moment. Her reaction was very abnormal.
Jiang Li shot her a glance.
"What... what are you looking at! What’s there to look at?" Tan Qing glared back with false bravado.
Jiang Li stepped away and bumped into Tang Wen, who was just returning, at the door.
"Officer Tang, I have a few questions I’d like to ask you."
"Go ahead, Miss Jiang," Tang Wen stopped politely and looked at her.
"Officer Tang, has Tan Qing been acting strangely lately? Or is she particularly close with any colleagues in the station?"
Tang Wen thought carefully, then shook his head. "No, but we’ve been too busy lately, so I haven’t paid much attention. As for being close to anyone, we joined the police force at the same time, so she’s probably closest to me."
"Oh, I see. Thank you."
After chatting a bit more, Jiang Li headed back. As soon as she got home, Wu Ming pulled her aside.
"Jiang Li, this is huge, absolutely huge! Those two younger brothers of yours have really made something of themselves."
Jiang Li looked at her in confusion.
Wu Ming was dumbfounded. "Don’t tell me you don’t know anything at all?"
"Xiao Ji and Xiao Nian said they went out to find jobs. One is working in sales, and the other as a bodyguard. Why, what’s wrong?"
Wu Ming’s mouth twitched. Jiang Li’s brilliance really depended on the timing. When faced with a case, her mind worked a mile a minute. But when it came to those two, she believed whatever they told her!
"Look, does this person look familiar?"
Jiang Li glanced at her phone screen. "C City’s youngest entrepreneur... Miao... Miao Anji?!" Shocked, she grabbed the phone from Wu Ming’s hands. "Could this be Photoshopped?"
"It’s all over the news, how could it be Photoshopped!" Wu Ming had also been frightened when she scrolled past it today.
It was simply too terrifying! She had only been out for a few days—how had Miao Anji suddenly become an entrepreneur?
Jiang Li looked at the article over and over again. "This can’t be real, right? Becoming an entrepreneur... how could it happen so fast..."
Scrolling further down, Jiang Li went silent as she read about the entrepreneur’s journey to success. Having followed Jiang Li for a long time, Miao Anji had realized the importance of money. With money, one could do a lot of things. So, he went looking for ways to make money. He heard people say that you could get rich overnight by scratching lottery tickets.
And so he did just that. He bought a stack and won two million. Thinking it wasn’t enough, he bought another stack and won five hundred thousand, after which the vendor chased him out. Forced to find another path to wealth, he heard about others trading stocks, so he started trading stocks. And just like that, his investments skyrocketed. In just a few short days, he even acquired several brick-and-mortar stores on the verge of bankruptcy. Once he took them online to e-commerce, the orders exploded instantly.
"GASP!" Jiang Li inhaled sharply. "Does this make any sense at all?"
Even TV dramas weren’t this absurd! Besides, how long had Xiao Ji been out in the real world? Jiang Li stared at the photo repeatedly before she finally dared to confirm that it was indeed Miao Anji.
Dumbfounded, Wu Ming shook her head. "I don’t think it makes sense either. When I scratch lottery tickets, I end up losing two hundred! But him? He makes two and a half million. There’s no justice in this world!"
As for the rest of it, how could a person be this insanely overpowered? While others lost their entire fortunes on stocks, he struck it rich night after night!
"Then... what about Xiao Nian? What is he doing? Is he a legitimate bodyguard?"
Wu Ming tilted her head at her and nodded. "Legitimate. A bodyguard who gets paid in US dollars."
That was a freaking mercenary! The big lummox who busied himself in the kitchen every day had suddenly turned into a mercenary!
Jiang Li’s brain instantly short-circuited. She pulled out her phone, searched on Baidu, and stared at the results.
"No, that’s impossible. Doesn’t he come home every day? Where would he find the time?"
"It’s not an everyday job. My God, I just went out for a trip and came back to realize that I’m the real loser here!" Wu Ming threw herself onto the sofa, still unable to accept the drastic transformations of those two.
Jiang Li sat blankly on the sofa. She needed a moment to process this, too.
