Chapter 257 - 251: Meeting with Kun Sha
Miao Anji and Yu Huannian came back from outside, one after the other, only to see the two women sitting on the sofa, dazed.
An unspoken guilt surfaced in both of them.
Miao Anji walked over and sat down across from Jiang Li. "Sister, did something happen?"
Yu Huannian stood to the side, still holding takeout. ’Did they find out about my situation?’
’But Brother Cui said it was confidential work. I’m probably just overthinking it.’
Miao Anji put on his usual, innocent look.
Jiang Li looked at him, thinking he still seemed like a minor, just a kid. He didn’t look like an entrepreneur in the slightest.
Seeing Jiang Li staring at him without saying a word, Miao Anji lowered his head, his eyes darting around nervously.
"Sister... uh, you know?"
Yu Huannian froze for a moment, then let out a sigh of relief. He glanced at Miao Anji. ’He was hiding something, too?’
"If Wu Ming hadn’t seen the news, I still wouldn’t know you were some big boss."
"PFFT!" Yu Huannian had just taken a sip of water to calm his nerves. Hearing Jiang Li’s words, he instantly choked.
’A big boss? Miao Anji?’
Jiang Li’s gaze shifted to land on Yu Huannian. "And you. You don’t know enough to be more careful about something so major? What happens if someone else finds out and gets ideas?"
"I—I was just guessing," Wu Ming hurriedly explained.
Miao Anji glanced at Yu Huannian and lowered his head, not saying a word. ’Sister already chewed him out, so she can’t chew me out now.’
Yu Huannian scratched his head. "Okay, got it. I’ll go tell Brother Cui and the others."
Yu Huannian glanced at Wu Ming.
Wu Ming quickly hugged herself. "Hey! I’m practically your sister! If you dare mess with me, I’ll stick pins in a voodoo doll of you!"
Yu Huannian retracted his gaze. "Next time, don’t go spilling everything you know. You’ll get yourself burned."
"I’m heading to B City tomorrow," Jiang Li announced, looking up. "Officer Huo and his team caught Kun Sha. I need to go see."
’Those two are busy people. It’ll be better if just Wu Ming and I go.’
"It’s fine. I pay people to manage things for me, so I have time," Miao Anji said quickly.
Yu Huannian looked up at her. "Brother Cui said there are no jobs for the next few days."
"Alright, then we’ll all go together."
That evening, Jiang Li checked the messages on her phone. ’Lu Xingye and the others must still be on the hunt. They probably don’t have time for me right now.’
Feeling a rare sense of relaxation, she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
"Jiang Li and her people are already aware. I didn’t think Kun Sha would be so cunning as to hide himself so well."
Jiang Li opened her eyes. The person before her was, once again, Tan Qing.
"S-so, should I still drug Jiang Li? She’s already suspicious of me. She’s far too vigilant.
"I... I don’t dare." Tan Qing trembled, shrinking back. The thought of Lu Xingye and Jiang Li looking at her with those gazes that seemed to see right through everything terrified her.
She was afraid she would end up losing more than she gained. Getting thrown in prison would be getting off easy.
"Besides, there’s something uncanny about Jiang Li. She’s not human. Sh-she’s more terrifying than any serial killer.
"She tortured Kun Sha’s men until their lives were a living hell. They were begging to die in police custody."
The more Tan Qing thought about it, the more terrified she became. At first, she had assumed Jiang Li simply had access to more clues, but over the past few months,
Jiang Li knew all sorts of things they didn’t. It was like she was some kind of omniscient killer, capable of anything.
"No matter how capable she is, she’s just a nobody with no backing. She’s too naive to go up against real power."
Jiang Li quietly watched the scene unfold. The man picked up a cigarette and took two drags, his thoughts grave. Jiang Li was much harder to control than he had anticipated.
Sensing his inner thoughts, Jiang Li raised her eyebrows in surprise. ’Oho, looks like it’s an acquaintance after all.’
He looked up at Tan Qing. "The whole point of this is to lure Lu Xingye’s team over and split them up. No matter who we make a move on, we won’t lose anything.
"Lu Xingye knows too much. A lot of people are getting unhappy."
He lowered his head and stubbed out his cigarette. "One of them has to die—him or Jiang Li."
Jiang Li jolted awake from the dream, her back drenched in a cold sweat.
’No wonder we couldn’t find a trace of Kun Sha at first. Someone was working from the inside, helping to cover his tracks.’
’And now, Kun Sha has shown up in B City.’
’The enemy knows I’m running circles around Gao Haiou’s team and guessed I wouldn’t go, so they’re sending Lu Xingye and his people to their deaths.’
Jiang Li grabbed her phone from the bedside and called Lu Xingye, but no one answered.
She tried calling Huo Qing and his team, but there was no answer from them either.
Left with no other choice, she called Ji Qinghe.
"Hello, Sister Qinghe! Lu Xingye and his team are in danger!"
Ji Qinghe looked at the message in front of her and licked her lips. "Jiang Li, it’s alright. Xingye’s team is proceeding smoothly. They’ve already successfully captured Kun Sha."
"Really?" Jiang Li got out of bed and walked to the window.
"Really. Kun Sha didn’t bring many men with him this time. We were well-prepared." ’And prepared to make sacrifices.’
"Okay, then I won’t disturb you, Sister Qinghe." Jiang Li hung up and stared outside, her gaze falling on her phone, which remained silent.
’Maybe they’re just busy.’
She turned and went back to bed. ’Who was that person with Tan Qing? Is he the mole they’ve been looking for all this time?’
Ji Qinghe stared at the message from B City. Kun Sha had been successfully captured. Lu Xingye’s team had been ambushed during the arrest. Their conditions were unknown.
Before dawn, Jiang Li woke Wu Ming and the others to head for B City. She wouldn’t be able to rest until she saw him with her own eyes.
Before boarding the plane, Jiang Li messaged Ji Qinghe, telling her to keep a close eye on Tan Qing and that there was someone else behind her.
Ji Qinghe read Jiang Li’s message and guessed she was already on her way to B City. She called over Zhou Tiancheng and showed him the text.
"So, Tan Qing might be the mole, and there’s a big shot backing her?"
Ji Qinghe nodded, her expression grave. They knew a little about the clandestine dealings of the higher-ups.
"Tiancheng, I have a feeling the people involved in this are far from simple."
"A nest of vipers. That’s to be expected." Zhou Tiancheng’s gaze was resolute. No matter who it was, he would do everything in his power.
Jiang Li went straight to the police station from the airport. The moment she walked in, she saw Huo Qing.
Huo Qing froze for a second when he saw Jiang Li. "Jiang Li, what are you doing here?"
Jiang Li glanced around. "I heard you caught Kun Sha. I want to see him. By the way, Brother Huo, where’s Lu Xingye?"
"Oh, him? He took some men to round up the little rats that got away." Huo Qing quickly changed the subject. "Didn’t you want to see Kun Sha? I’ll take you to him."
Jiang Li nodded and followed him deeper into the station.
Kun Sha was strapped into an interrogation chair. Hearing the noise, a pair of sinister eyes shot toward the door.
Jiang Li met his gaze. They were the eyes of a wild wolf lurking in the darkness, waiting for the perfect moment to strike a fatal blow.
The moment Kun Sha saw her, his eyes went vacant for a second before a look of understanding surfaced.
"You must be Jiang Li. Jiang... HAHAHAHA! I wonder if Shao Zhenhua would crawl out of his coffin if he knew you’d taken his enemy as your father."
