Sun Qiming frowned, looking at the group in confusion. He recognized these young people. If it weren’t for them last night, he and his brother would have been dead.

A thought suddenly occurred to Jiang Li and she smiled. She pulled out a photo of Miao Anji. "Is this who you saw?"

Sun Qiming’s eyes lit up. He nodded instantly, then pointed at the photo and looked toward Wang Jiawei at his side. "Officer, that’s him!"

After Sun Qiming spoke, he noticed that Wang Jiawei, far from being pleased, had a sour look on his face.

Wang Jiawei forced a stiff smile. "Mr. Sun, please take a closer look. Are you certain it was him?"

Sun Qiming looked at Wang Jiawei, baffled. "Officer, my brother was being beaten by this person, and I was standing right there. I saw it all crystal clear.

I’d had a bit to drink, but the shock sobered me right up. It’s not like I went blind."

As he spoke, Sun Qiming pointed to Jiang Li. "Oh, and Officer, we have this young lady to thank. If it weren’t for her, my brother and I would’ve met a grim end."

Wang Jiawei fell silent. His men were watching Miao Anji around the clock; he was even followed to the bathroom. It was impossible for him to have gotten out to commit the crime.

And yet, this man was saying the person he saw was Miao Anji. ’What in the world is going on here?’

’Could what they were saying actually be true?’

Wang Jiawei stared at them, completely stumped. If what they said was true, it was also completely absurd.

"Mr. Sun, is this the first time you’ve met them?"

Jiang Li let out a short, angry laugh.

"There’s more than one police station in D City, right?" She turned to Lu Xingye. She really didn’t want to waste any more time arguing with someone who refused to listen to reason.

"Officer, what’s that supposed to mean?" Sun Qiming also stared at Wang Jiawei, completely bewildered.

’If it wasn’t the first time, what other time could it be?’

Belatedly, Wang Jiawei realized he had been too impulsive and felt a flush of embarrassment.

Miao Jiangling watched the officer. ’What is the meaning of this?’

’It’s gotten to this point, why haven’t they arrested Jiang Li and her friends yet?’

"Don’t worry, Jiang Li. I’ll contact another precinct." Lu Xingye shot Jiang Li a reassuring glance and turned to make a call.

’It’s the end of the year. This is a gift-wrapped case that would boost any precinct’s stats. If they’re smart, they’ll take it. And if they can’t handle it, B City isn’t that far away.’

Just as Lu Xingye was about to make the call, he saw Zhou Tiancheng get out of another car, followed by a group of people.

Wang Jiawei took a moment to process the scene before hurrying forward. "Mr. Mayor, why are you here? This case is about to be wrapped up. There was no need for you to come all this way."

After he spoke, Wang Jiawei glanced at Zhou Tiancheng, wondering inwardly, ’He’s just a police captain, how did he manage to summon our city’s mayor?’

Mayor Liu Tianxiang strode forward and shot Wang Jiawei a glare. "Useless!"

Liu Tianxiang walked over to Jiang Li, his expression immediately shifting to a smile as he reached her. "You must be Ms. Jiang. I’ve heard so much about you; it’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person."

Jiang Li looked at Mayor Liu, the corner of her mouth twitching. "Hello, Mr. Mayor. Right now, I just want to resolve my brother’s situation. Your men seem to think we’re just spouting nonsense, and they haven’t even bothered to ask if we have any evidence.

Is this the standard of police work in D City? Haven’t your officers received professional training? How can they be so reckless?"

Mayor Liu gave a sheepish smile, then pointed to a man behind him. "Ms. Jiang, this is a member of our special task force. Rest assured, we will handle this matter with complete impartiality and ensure justice for the innocent."

Luo Binglin stepped forward. "Hello, Miss Jiang. My name is Luo Binglin. My team and I will be taking full charge of this case. You can hand everything over to us now."

Jiang Li studied Luo Binglin.

"Luo Binglin has cracked several major cases. He’s known for being a man of integrity, completely incorruptible," Lu Xingye added, stepping forward when he saw Jiang Li remain silent.

Only then did Jiang Li nod. "Alright. In that case, detain Miao Jiangling first. I’ll go with you to the station to explain everything."

Luo Binglin smiled with understanding. He signaled to the two officers behind him, who moved forward, apprehended Miao Jiangling, and escorted her into a car before heading to the station.

Wang Jiawei watched this scene unfold in shock, a bad feeling rising in his gut.

"Mr. Mayor, is this... appropriate?" ’Just handing our case over to someone else like that?’

Mayor Liu shot him a look and snorted. "Since you’re incompetent, what’s wrong with giving the case to someone who’s capable?

And you, Wang Jiawei, is your brain full of crap? Just you wait for your year-end performance review!"

After saying his piece, Mayor Liu turned to Zhou Tiancheng. "Officer Zhou, would it be possible for you to extend your stay for a while?"

’He’d heard stories about Jiang Li. Now that she was finally here in D City, he wanted to ask for her help.’

"Well... Mayor Liu, I have to get back to B City to handle the Kong Zhen case. As for Jiang Li, she’s a free agent. I can’t make that decision for her."

Mayor Liu understood immediately. He happily shook Zhou Tiancheng’s hand. "Excellent! Thank you, Officer Zhou. Let’s stay in touch."

Zhou Tiancheng nodded, then got into a car with the others and headed for the station.

Inside the station, Luo Binglin watched the video footage Jiang Li’s group had submitted. There were no signs of AI manipulation; it was all real.

Still, this was the first time they had ever encountered such a bizarre case involving Gu Worms.

Remembering his purpose for being there, he suppressed his curiosity.

"Captain Luo, we checked the surveillance from the other alleyways. We found a man with a similar build at this location. Judging by his movements, he’s probably in this residential complex."

Luo Binglin glanced at the screen. "Take a team and bring him in."

"Yes, sir."

Luo Binglin reviewed the initial investigation report. The silver ornament did indeed belong to Miao Anji. Then he reviewed the surveillance footage submitted by Zhou Tiancheng.

During that exact time frame, Miao Anji had been in his hospital room. This was definitive proof it wasn’t him.

No wonder Zhou Tiancheng and his group had been so furious. To convict Miao Anji based on a blurry video of someone’s back—anyone would be livid.

Luo Binglin thought about what Jiang Li and the others had said: planting Gu, controlling people, causing hallucinations. He considered Sun Qiming’s police report and testimony, where he swore the person he saw was Miao Anji. But at that very moment, Miao Anji had been at the police station.

It was enough to prove that Miao Anji was not the murderer, and that Jiang Li’s group had been right all along.

Once his name was cleared, Miao Anji was released immediately.

"WAAAH... Sister, they were so mean! They even followed me to the bathroom."

Miao Anji clung to Jiang Li’s arm, nuzzling his head against it.

Jiang Li patted his head. "It’s alright, it’s over now. This was all Miao Jiangling’s doing to get back at you. It has nothing to do with you."

Miao Anji nodded, looking wronged. "So... will she go to prison?"

Jiang Li nodded. "She will."

The corner of Miao Anji’s mouth curved up. ’If that’s the case, then I won’t have to intervene. Spending time with Sister is more important anyway.’

Watching the affectionate siblings, Luo Binglin sighed with a hint of envy.

"Miao Anji! How are you out?!" Seeing Miao Anji completely unharmed, Miao Jiangling was so overcome with rage she spat out a mouthful of blood.

Miao Anji smiled at Miao Jiangling. "Granny, you’re going to prison! I’m sure it’s lots of fun in there. Don’t go and die from anger on your own."
